‘Hey, TSA, Is That My iPad in Your Pants, or Are You Just Happy to Frisk Me?’

Damn that VodkaPundit: He got to this joke headline before I did. Great drunks think alike, I guess. But enough about us — let’s talk about the government hiring criminal thugs to rip off innocent taxpayers:

The Broward [County, Fla.] Sheriff’s Office says 30-year-old Nelson Santiago stole around $50,000 worth of electronics over the past six months from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport’s Terminal 1.
Santiago — a TSA officer since 2009 — was caught earlier this week by a Continental Airlines employee taking an iPad out of someone’s luggage and stuffing it into his pants, the cops say.
After being arrested Monday on two counts of grand theft, police say Santiago admitted to stealing computers, GPS devices, video cameras, and other electronic merchandise from luggage he was supposed to be screening.

(Via Memeorandum, with links by Hit & Run, The Lonely Conservative and Weasel Zippers.) Santiago was reportedly selling the stuff by posting it online while he was still “at work.” The fact that this thief was hired in 2009 might lead suspicious minds to wonder whether hiring standards at this agency — part of Janet Napolitano‘s Department of Homeland Security — have been lowered since January 2009.

No way. Because that would be completely irresponsible — like selling guns to Mexican drug gangs and illegal immigrants. And only crazy right-wingers could ever imagine that any federal agency would ever do something  like that.

I thought that immediately upon reading that article, but I am glad VodkaPundit is so on it.  It just goes to show vodka really does make you faster!

Unfortunately, it’s the right wingers that believe that we need these invasive searches in order to be safe.

You’re my age, Stacy. You know damned well there was a time when we didn’t even need an ID to get on a plane, and yet (except for a few uneplected attemped trips to Cuba) nothing bad happened.

Scrap it all – let the airlines figure it out.

    Sometimes he drinks bourbon.

TSA pat downs are not what even the most ardent proponent of the Patriot act had in mind.

Heh. You could smoke on an airplane back in the day, and your family and friends could go directly to the gate and wait for you to arrive.

Why does this sound like my Dad telling me about plowing with a mule?

TSA stealing your stuff?  I am wondering if there is an app for this?

A stupid organization created under the Bush 43 Administration, and carried on by the Obama Administration.

Well, they said that if I voted for McCain, things would never change.  And they were right.

And all the right wingers I know were against putting airport security on the federal payroll.

And I didn’t even see the point of creating an Office of Homeland Security, let alone a dadgum Department.

Vodka makes you faster.  Bourbon makes you insightful.

Me neither, McGehee.  Also, I have never been comfortable with this whole ‘Homeland’ thing; it sounds like something the Gerrys or the Russkies would use.

You have the problem with name of “Homeland,” mein herr tovarisch?

Secretary could perhaps send associates to assist you in being more flexible in this prejudice.

I realize this is another of those inconvenient facts for a Copperhead, but it was Copperheads who threatened to shut down our ability to defend ourselves unless Bush agreed to create DHS and TSA as Fedgov agencies.

“To professionalize, you must federalize” — wasn’t even a RINO who hissed that one.

We have a local supermarket chain called “Homeland”; I keep hoping they’ll sue.

You could sit in the boarding area with your friend and hug them 1 minute before they got on the plane.

Well, I guess since there was a Democratic majority in BOTH houses from 2006 through 2010, and since the good, freedom-loving Dems also had the White House from 2008 on up (that’s two years with total control of both houses, Angela, and provably no need for a single Republican vote to pass anything, including a rollback of the horrible, Democrat-supported TSA)… and during that time, a Democratic appointee controlled the TSA (and made the TSA’s policies far more intusive and immune to redress than they were under GWB)…

Given those things, whose responsibility would you say the TSA Gropedown and child molestation was, again?
