Another Liberal Narrative Gone Wrong

Posted on | March 27, 2012 | 62 Comments

Women, minorities, David Plouffe’s credibility hardest hit:

The individual at the center of the controversial Trayvon Martin shooting is a registered Democrat.
George Michael Zimmerman, born Oct. 5, 1983, registered as a Democrat in Seminole County, Fla., in August 2002, according to state voter registration documents.

UPDATE: More mean-spirited hate-mongering from those notorious right-wing propagandists at Fox CBS News:

New information is putting a new twist on the Trayvon Martin case.
It has come out that the unarmed teenager was suspended from school, and is accused of beating up the man who then shot him dead.

No justice! No peace! No credibility!

UPDATE II: If Obama had a son, he’d look Tweet like Trayvon.

UPDATE III: Professor William Jacobson reminds us that no liberal narrative is a complete joke until Karen Finney gives us a pious sermon:

Karen, sweetheart: Grab any misogynistic slur from Trayvon’s Twitter stream. Now, apply it to yourself. And don’t say I never gave you anything special.

UPDATE IV: Nothing does more for the cause of civil right than teenagers walking out of school and ransacking a drug store.

UPDATE V: Never let a crisis go to waste!

The real question is whether Zimmerman _felt_ Conservative and white while carrying a gun.

    Sorry.

One just can’t be allowed to kill somebody because they are losing a fight they instigate and even were told by the authorities not to instigate. Guy should be in jail.

You are full of crap in every respect.  There is NO evidence anyone but Martin instigated the fight – NONE.   The “authorities” told Zimmerman NOTHING – all the operator said when he said he was following the suspect was “we don’t need you to do that.”  As the police FAQ notes, that is not a police order.

The matter was thoroughly investigated, ALL the evidence at the scene, from the 911 calls (8 in all) and the eyewitnesses corroborates Zimmerman’s account.

Banging a person’s head into a sidewalk is assault with intent to kill, btw.

The prosecutors reviewed the case and found NO evidence for probable cause to arrest, much less of guilt of Zimmerman, which is why nothing was controversial about the incident for about three weeks after it happened.

Then a lawyer showed up with a scheme to cash in, and that’s when the wailing began, including Sharpton to rouse the rabble.  It’s a scam, and they suckered you in.

I’m not talking about the case, I’m talking about the liberal narrative of the case.

Clearly, George Zimmerman should be in jail, along with all other dangerously crazy Democrats.

I mean, as long as no one’s casing your house, it’s all good. Why get involved? I mean, it’s not like Zimmerman was a captain in the Neighborhood Watch his neighbors put together and put him in the position, right?

Sorry, but if somebody’s casing my house I’ll handle it (if you’d like to call me or 911 or start honking your car horn, much appreciated — but I don’t want you playing hero).
Oh, and we’ve dealt with people who were attempting a break in of the old lady next door — no confrontation, cops were called, got plenty of visual on the suspects, led to a big time apprehension involving multiple robberies…nobody got shot. Dealt with some meth heads doing the same thing, led to an arrest (and a pretty big drug bust and a lead on on a rape case), same MO for my husband and I, nobody got shot.Damn, we’ve managed to do a pretty good job at not getting involved huh?  We should take a bow! lol!

    Why yes, yes I am.

And now because of his actions, CCW, and self-defense laws, and Neighborhood Watch are getting criticized (rather unfairly imhao, but unfairness is a life quality), so there may come a day when somebody might really have use for those…and they won’t be there.

So no, I have no desire to defend him or condone his actions — he should have stayed in his SUV, not inserted himself further, let the cops handle it, and that would have been that (who knows? might have led to some actual arrests and not this, but that’s all conjecture now isn’t it?).

…and the Gates case, by the way, involved a cop who was not only well within the boundaries of ethically and professionally carrying out his job, but who also went above and beyond the call of temperance and restraint in the prosecution of said affair.

I don’t think we can make that claim for Mr. Zimmerman.

Somehow Americans have gotten it into their heads over the last century-and-a-half that organized police forces have been around that policing one’s property and neighborhood is the exclusive duty of the police.

Not in America.  Police forces were organized to relieve ordinary citizens of the constant burden and help maintain order.  Our ancestors never believed they were abdicating their duty to be active participants in preserving the peace.

One wishes there were more Neighborhood Watch groups, especially in urban and semi-urban areas.

Zimmerman started following because he was LOSING visual on the suspect, who was heading between houses and the community center, no way to stay in the truck.  He was on his way BACK to the truck when accosted by Martin.

Yeah, he’s the only witness to that part, and Martin’s first punch.  But what are you going to do?  Hold a freakin’ seance?

And if you DID contact Martin “on the other side,” how do you know he wouldn’t just lie, like he did about the jewelry, pot, and burglary tool in his backpack that got him suspended?

  34. Pathfinder's wife
    March 27th, 2012 @ 9:28 pm

As a neighborhood watch guy all he had to do was call 911 with where Martin was going, give a good description, and where exactly he lost contact with him at, plus a run down of why he thought he looked suspicious.

If he was NW captain maybe he could have gone the extra mile and phoned other NW people??? They usually put together some kind of phone tree.

He could have even hung around (in his vehicle) and been on the lookout, if he wanted to go above and beyond.

But getting out of the vehicle and following Martin was a very stupid and irresponsible thing to do, and it could have ended much worse.

You know, protest the NBPP, the media,  and the jackarse celebrities (like our dear leader) that are jumping on this vulture wagon — they deserve to be criticized from the rooftops for what they have done; protest a breakdown of society that yearly gives us kids who have been brainwashed by the media and business ads into thinking thug life is “cool”.  By all means defend the right of citizens to bear arms and protect themselves and their communities.

But everyone on the right has completely gone off the rails defending a dumbass — and he isn’t the thing you should be defending, because he was stupid and what he did isn’t something people should emulate (because next time the innocent bystander could get killed).  And you know what?  You allowed yourselves to get sidetracked defending a yutz…because the other side is (stupidly) defending and crying alligator tears over the other yutz (especially the head honcho of the other side, which I know can be a mighty temptation, but sometimes you have to resist).

  36. Pathfinder's wife

You should not interject yourself into a situation if by doing so you escalate the situation.  That’s what Zimmerman did.

Now, if somebody had been getting assaulted, raped, or murdered, then I could say that’s heroic — because that sort of situation presents clear and present danger; by all means insert yourself (IF you think your insertion will not lead to a bigger problem).

This did not — but he certainly helped a dangerous situation develop (not what you’re supposed to do).

You know, it is possible to say Martin was an idiot punk,  and the race baiters are opportunistic hyenas who are destroying our country from the inside out, without putting Zimmerman up on a pedestal and giving him a free pass.

Oh, no, it’s not atrophy-related at all.  It’s an odd phenomenon we’ve been studying here at The Boogie Labs.

It seems there’s a deep-seated reason why leftists love strong, centralized government.  It’s because they have cockroach-like, decentralized neural centers instead of highly-developed cerebral cortices.  Hence the independent jerking of knees, the reliance on “emotion” in place of reason, and many other disorders of distributive cognition.

This is why they prefer a more hive-like government. (It also seems to be related to fame-seeking, but the underlying mechanism there still eludes.)

Well, if you’re the “neighborhood watch captain” elected by the neighborhood and on your assigned patrol, is it “stalking” to try to see where a suspicious character went?

You need to look up the legal definitions of “stalking” and “assault with intent to kill” and “self defense” before discussing them.

  43. Adjoran
    March 28th, 2012 @ 1:12 am

  45. Adjoran

Nobody is “lionizing” him.  I’m saying under all the facts known, and all that are likely to become known – barring a secret night-vision surveillance tape suddenly surfacing – he was 100% justified in the shooting by self defense.  There is not a shred of evidence to the contrary – NONE, nor is there any likely way for any “new” evidence to be discovered.

“Should” he have stayed in his truck?  With 20/20 hindsight, sure – and you can bet he would give a testicle to be able to go back and do that now.

    Was following legally wrong?  NO.
    Was following morally wrong?  NO.
Did he disobey police orders?  NO.

Forgive me for saying, based on ALL the available evidence, that Zimmerman is the VICTIM here and Martin the assailant.  You have no facts nor argument based on facts to even make an argument otherwise.

Who in Sanford, Florida is MORE nervous than George Zimmerman?

    Korean store owners.

  47. K-Bob
    March 28th, 2012 @ 1:32 am

The story I read about Freddy’s was that a lot of the people killed in the fire were hispanic. Sharpton going into Florida railing against hispanics (EDIT: indirectly) and being no friend of shopowners (especially Korean)–well, the phrase “powder keg” just doesn’t quite spell out the explosiveness he’s messing with.

Doug Ross linked to this well-wrotified piece by Harry Stein at the “Fortnightly Review” that explains a problem like Al.

It is a good thing.  Because they went to prison — at least a couple of them rolled on some other thugs, who then went to prison.
And most importantly I didn’t go to prison (because the law would have found me guilty of at least manslaughter if not murder).

Uhm, nobody was breaking into my house; nobody was doing anything to me — they were casing out my neighbor’s houses.

I love how the run with the narrative goes though — not exactly grounded in reality, but wow does it become a real story for the ages. (see what I’m getting at?)

The evidence of the 911 call, where he persisted in following even after being advised not to and hanging up on the 911 operator when protocol says to stay on the line (no, it wasn’t an order — but it was probably good advice).
