Franklin Center Joins Lee Stranahan, Popehat, Aaron Worthing, Mandy Nagy And Others To Discuss Protection Of The Free Press
Tonight at 9:30pm EDT, The Franklin Center joins Lee Stranahan, Mandy Nagy, and last night’s SWATting victim Aaron Worthing on a webinar to discuss recent attacks on bloggers and the suppression of free speech.
Convicted domestic terrorist Brett Kimberlin and his associates have repeatedly terrorized bloggers and others who highlight his story with over 100 frivolous lawsuits and 4 SWATting attacks. SWATting is a dangerous tactic that involves calling a police department to report a false crime to get a SWAT team dispatched to the victim’s house. The attacks have included bloggers Patterico, Erick Erickson, and as recently as last night, Aaron Worthing.
Yesterday, Rep. Sandy Adams of Florida and 87 cosigners sent another letter to AG Eric Holder urging investigation of costly SWATting tactics. In her statement, Adams said “SWAT-ting is quickly becoming a scare tactic used against political bloggers in an effort to stifle their First Amendment rights.”
Tabitha Hale, New Media Director at the Franklin Center for Government and Public Intergrity, says “These tactics are just appalling. A free press is essential to a free society, and attempts to silence those who are telling the truth are entirely unacceptable. We are glad to have a small part in the fight to protect the First Amendment by supporting victims of these attacks. We will always err on the side of free speech.”
Information on tonight’s webinar is below. Learn what is at stake and learn how to protect yourself and your act of journalism.

Everyone familiar with the phrase “Not Good Enough for BlogCon” understands why the New Media Director of the Franklin Center made damned sure that I cannot participate in this event.

However, given the enormous importance of the subject, I sincerely urge you to participate in this event, and also ask you to help promote participation on the largest scale possible.

Tell everybody you know: BE THERE!

Just because I’m persona non grata doesn’t mean you should be, too.

It is an important issue. It is disappointing that you were not invited.

  • Mike G.

Can you just lurk and listen? I signed up, but don’t really want to

Why the heck would they invite YOU?  You’ve only been the single reporter who has pursued each angle of the case to cast light in the darkened corners and uncover the murky connections and “scrubbed” internet content.   Those who have followed your coverage from May 17 probably know as much or more about the story than anyone with the possible exception of the other targets.

Maybe you need to send Tabitha a peace offering – did you know they now make edible arrangements?

I will be listening but I have no microphone, so will not speak (a good thing I am told). The webinar is diminished by your exclusion, imho.

I’ve been a regular reader of your blog for a couple of  months and know about your on going butt hurt because of  Tabitha Hale. What I don’t know is why you have been so disrespected by the young lady. So, I did a Google search for “Why does Tabitha Hale hate Robert Stacy McCain”. It returned 2,320,000 results but no answer. What gives?

If I knew why she hated me, maybe I could make the hate stop. But it’s a free country, and Tabitha has a First Amendment right to hate me.

  • robertstacymccain

did you know they now make edible arrangements?

    That was unnecessarily cruel, man.

  • Goddess OfTheClassroom

Mr. McCain, I’ve read you site every day (usually several times a day) for several years.  I find you to be the epitome of a Southern gentleman.  I cannot give anyone any higher praise than that.
PS.  I like to think that you’d be proud to have me be your children’s English teacher (even though I’m a public school teacher in Pennsylvania).  I know that I’d love to have them in my class.

  • CryingWolfeBlog

And my name left out again. Blogger or not.

  • Evi L. Bloggerlady

I can understand her being mad at Adjoran too.

  • lonely conservative

I got the invite, signed in and have been waiting ever since. Almost 15 minutes now that the pop up window is telling me I successfully connected but am “waiting for organization.”

  • lonely conservative

PS, my invitation and the confirmation both said 9:00. Still waiting.

  • lonely conservative

On now. I guess there was a mix up with the confirmations. Disregard.

  • jsn2

OK. I get it. It’s like when my wife is mad at me, but I have no idea what I did.

  • Adjoran

  • Adjoran

Exactly:  if he doesn’t KNOW, she is certainly NOT going to tell him.

  • McGehee

They really need to go back to arranging events that don’t actually happen. Those I can go to. Except when I don’t.
