It’s interesting to see the way Rule 5 is paralleling the evolution of porn in the magazine industry.

We had our horny but innocent fifties at the start, with the cheesecake only rule, the equivalent of the Humorama cartoon digest empire, “men’s adventure” magazines, Esquire, etc.

Then we had our 60′s, with the progressively sheerer outfits, daring “sidal” nudity and finally brazenly displayed boobs, as Humorama gave way to Sex to Sexty and Esquire went “legit” in the face of Playboy and its many, many imitators.

Then came the 70′s, and the Deluge, with Hustler and its many clones and imitators, as Larry Flynt’s mean-spirited determination to utterly debase the rest of humanity to his misanthropic level became the dominant factor and “eroticism” came to mean “gynecology”.

The neat part is that Rule 5 seems to be repeating that arc in less than four years. Granted, everything happens faster on the internet…

What remains to be seen is if this perverted Parkinson’s law will be followed all the way through again, with gynecology replacing glamour and leers replacing humor in yet another medium…

You would think so, yet Ausable Chasm has a history of driving Veiled Hint out of the market.

I may be an optimist, but I think that’s changing. Women are figuring out that acting like a slut may be great in the short-term for scratching that itch, but does severe damage in the long term when they want something that lasts.
