No, the cannot identify “race” from bones. They can identify which dominant familial group of humans the person was. In other words, they can tell you-for example–if it was a member of the pacific group of Aboriginal or Maori cultures (dark to black skin) or Indian subcontinent (dark to black skin) or African subcontinent (say it with me: dark to black skin) or Polynesian (dark to black skin). All of which have different bone structures. Yet today, the only “race” people think of as “black” are African-descended folks. And how many races are there, then? All of those folks I listed have dark-to-black skin. (Add Jamaicans, Mexicans, and Brazilians to that color group while you’re at it.) Are you going to tell me that people in India belong to the “black” race? It sounds equally idiotic to claim “Maori” as a race.

Ever see a dark-skinned Asian? They exist. If you want race to be remotely accurate, you’d have to have tens of thousands of “races” to account for all the differences.

Genes tell a more important story: the differences between the genes of an Aboriginal tribesman from Australia and a pasty white guy from the American Midwest will show very few differences at all.

In scientific terms, race means nothing useful.

What really matters is ancestry, which determines susceptibility to certain diseases and environmental factors. If you have a high degree of Lakotah ancestry, then you also have a high-likelihood of being susceptible to alcoholism, even if you look like some white guy from Chicago. The opposite is true for folks with German ancestry. An “Asian”-looking guy from LA with a German grandfather might have an incredibly high tolerance for alcohol, compared to other men that look more like he does.

And now that world travel is possible even for the very poor, the genetic mix is far less geographically contained.

By the way, do you know what color your great, great, great, great grandmother was? The odds are you don’t, and you have no way to find out. In a lot of courthouse records, only the woman’s first name is recorded in marriage records going back that far.

Further, genealogy researchers and scientists who study hereditary factors, have calculated that a transplanted male, say an African male from the Southern, Western part of Africa, transplanted to an entirely different geography, say the Georgian Republic, would take only about 500 years for his genes (assuming he manages to reproduce) to show up in nearly every child in that region.

Race is most definitely a lie; a handy fiction for those who try to gain power or incite crowds, or an excuse for fear. As a way to group humans, It has no redeeming quality whatsoever.
