BOB MENENDEZ AND HOOKERS?

Dominican hookers, to be specific. This is what we’re hearing about the sex scandal involving a “powerful senator” in a headline being touted by Drudge, with a story by the Daily Caller promised late tonight.

UPDATE: Shortly after the Drudge Report headline went up, my associate Ali Akbar got a tip that the story involved Sen. Menendez of New Jersey and at least one prostitute with whom he trysted on a taxpayer-funded trip to the Dominican Republic. Within one hour, Akbar had confirmed this with other sources, and we understand that numerous reporters in D.C. have heard similar reports.

UPDATE II: Some online sources are saying underaged Dominican hookers, but Ali’s sources cannot confirm the age of the alleged partner.

UPDATE III: Menendez’s Republican challenger is Joe Kyrillos who, unless I’m mistaken, suddenly became a serious contender.

UPDATE IV: The Daily Caller’s Matthew Boyle:

Two women from the Dominican Republic told The Daily Caller that Democratic New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez paid them for sex earlier this year.
In interviews, the two women said they met Menendez around Easter at Casa de Campo, an expensive 7,000 acre resort in the Dominican Republic. They claimed Menendez agreed to pay them $500 for sex acts, but in the end they each received only $100.The women spoke through a translator in the company of their attorney, Melanio Figueroa. Both asked that their identities remain obscured for fear of reprisals in the Dominican Republic. . . .
Asked about the allegations, Menendez spokeswoman Tricia Enright refused to answer any questions on the subject. “We’re not going to respond to a completely false accusation,” she wrote by email.
It is known that Sen. Menendez has been a regular visitor to the Dominican Republic. On at least one occasion, according to a news account, Menendez has been a guest at the Casa de Campo home of a friend and campaign donor named Salomon Melgen, an ophthalmologist and owner of an eye clinic in Florida.

    What is this, Mad Men? Isn’t prostitution basically a cash up front transaction? Do they still leave the money on the dresser these days? I wouldn’t know.

    But in my years in advertising, I learned you need to collect the bill from even your best customers right away, and explained it to my staff thus: “The perceived value of a service declines rapidly after it has been rendered.”

    I know who he is, but he’s never distinguished himself in the Senate, much less acquired any power. The power of being in the Senate itself is a given, if they are all “powerful Senators” then none of them are, are they?

    Um, no, no, no, and no. If anything, it gives him street cred. Remember that New Jersey is actually proud of the “Jersey Shore” show. Torricelli was going to be indicted, otherwise “the Torch” was a lock for reelection. The only Senator sentenced for bribery in this century was Harrison Williams of NJ, although only because Griffin Bell pulled the plug on ABSCAM about ten seconds after he was informed of it, in time to save his old pal Herman Talmadge, scheduled to pick up his payment from the “sheik” that very day.

    Geez, Stacy, get a grip. “Single guy visits hookers in a country where prostitution is legal.” This story isn’t worth two pixels.

    As for the DC, they’re no better than the hookers, hyping this nothingburger for hours.

    Isn’t it sad that no one will dispute this? Our Congresscritters are so disreputable that they are not as well regarded as used car salesmen. Ben Franklin would say that we didn’t keep it.

    I believe Sen Menendez should resign and withdraw from his reelection campaign immediately. There has to be some moral standards even for Democrats.

    exactly, because…when it comes down to it, at least the prostitute is being honest about how she/he is making money…politicians are just whores, who lie about it.
