The Huffington Post Lies About Steven Crowder’s CPAC Monologue

I happened to be in the ballroom for the remarks made by Crowder, as mis-reported by the Puffington Host:

Steven reports:

So HuffingtonPost is outright lying and trying to slander me, and I could really use support.
As you know, Ashley Judd has recently been heard equating both mining and purchasing Apple Products to “rape.” So my commentary at CPAC on her stupid, and insensitive comparisons was exactly this
“This just in, Ashley Judd just tweeted that purchasing apple products is akin to rape… from her iPhone”
I followed it up with “Rape? Really, now she knows what my mind felt like after Divine Secrets of YaYaSisterhood”
Clearly taking aim at Ashley Judd for her stupid rape comments. Instead, HuffPo says that I made a “rape joke” about Ashley Judd. Obviously this narrative is important, and I would reeeaaally welcome some any support in resetting it.

Steven is one of the good guys, as evidenced by this foul assault. Maybe somebody at the Puffington Host thinks it’s funny or something, but this is precisely the sort of nonsense propaganda that feeds into the even uglier #WarOnWomen meme.

Fall off the planet, Puffington Host. Let’s rally all of the blogs to support Steven and point out that these liars lie.

Update: welcome, Instapundit readers!

Update II: Ed Driscoll introduces the important Lefty verb “Laphamize,” which is achieved by deciding upon a narrative for an opposition event, writing an anachronous review, and then passing it off as reporting.

Update III: Counterargument from Screed of Momus, more support from the Lonely Conservative.

UPDATE IV (RSM): Yeah, I unloaded a few hundred words — including “hired liars” — about HuffPo & Co.

obviously, crowder wasn’t making a ‘rape joke’ but rather a ‘judd joke’ but why does it seem like crowder is always asking others to get him out of some pickle or another ? he does seem to whine a lot. so his comment is being mis-reported…this suprises him ? why can’t he just defend himself and carry on without everybody rushing to his ‘rescue’ ?

Because the narrative isn’t important? Putting sunlight on smears is important. If you don’t want to help, then don’t.

It takes more than one person to counter false propaganda, especially as media outlets rarely check their stories if those stories confirm their biases. The best way to counter them is to link back to the source and show that they were lazy and didn’t dig up the original quote. It’s entirely in our interest, regardless of who is being slimed, to demand that media outlets get it right.

And if Crowder can’t count on support from other conservatives when a liberal outlet lies about what he said, don’t expect him to say anything provocative or hard hitting. If conservative pundits think they are on their own, they’re going to scale back everything they say to avoid being trashed in the liberal press.

At the end of the day, we’ll only have ourselves to thank when the left does whatever they like without serious criticism.

Right or wrong, conservatives who comment about rape are going to get burned. Smitty, I disagree with your assessment that “Crowder is one of the good guys” but you know the man and I do not. What I do know is that if you tilt right and you even passively joke about rape, you’re working with mercury.

They’re Democrats; lying is what they do. The only question is how long we can live in a society with people we absolutely cannot trust.

Shouldn’t he have done some research on Judd and rape (seriously, look
at the first page when you google those words) before going ahead and
making his “Judd joke”? Was there no other, non-rape related material he
could use? Was making a joke about a MULTIPLE rape victim and, what,
Apple products his only option? He then proceeded to compare the act of
rape to watching a bad movie? This guy is so lost, it’s sad. So much for
him trying to be a role model for the “selfish millennials who don’t
    know how to honor women”.

So with all this talk about what he did or did not say, where is the video or transcript? I can’t find either (including on HuffPo). If one is going to accuse them of lying, having the evidence would be good.

How is the HuffPo lying, by the way? It’s a direct quote from Crowder’s speech. It’s not like the HuffPo explicitly states that Crowder referred to Judd playing the rape card – just that he made a joke that included Judd and rape. It just so happens that Judd has been raped multiple times in her lifetime. No one’s telling us you’re a jerk, Steven. You made that clear on your own.

I suggest that Steve send his cousin Boyd Crowder over to the folks at HP for a good talkin’ to in Boyd’s measured tones, his hillbilly accent and subtle menace more than offset by his quiet persuasiveness delivered in mellifluous, almost shakespearian language.

Surely, the HP folks will get the point…

She’s said she was raped as a young woman and I’ll take her word for it (yes I had to look it up. To say I don’t pay attention to Hollywood types would be the understatement of the century). All of that said, one might hope that those experiences would have taught her the impotance of being precise with the language and not be frivilous and promiscuous with such a charge. Apparently it didn’t.

Yes, you say that and from what I’ve read and heard from Crowder, I’ll disagree. The rape business in this context is nonsense, *but* far better conservatives have seen their careers end for far less. Again: if you’re a conservative referencing rape on a public stage, you’re going to get burned. This isn’t rocket science.

  31. jakee308
    March 17th, 2013 @ 10:11 pm

I think rapist or insensitivity about rape is scheduled to become the new “charge” to be leveled against those the liberal/Progressive Industrial complex finds repugnant, scary or too rational.

They know that “racist” is just about played out. (they should know, they played it. over and over and over again.) they’ve leveled this charge for any and all reasons under the sun. Strangely it only gets leveled at persons who claim to be or appear to be conservative or patriotic or even just rational.

So now after a pretrial effort and success (thank you EX Senator Akin) they’ve decided that this will be the new smear.
Just say anything with the letters r a p or e in it somewhere and you’re one of the target groups, you’ll be accused of rape or insensitivity to rape or thinking about rape or whatever.

Welcome to the Brave New World.

One of the good guys? Hardly. Ashley Judd has been raped TWICE. That makes mentioning “rape” and “Ashley Judd” in the same sentence something that should probably be left to Ashley Judd alone. Haven’t Republican Men learned that talking about “RAPE” is a rhetorical Third Rail? Touch that subject at your own peril. What Crowder said was boorish, disinformed and severely UNFUNNY! It made him look like a middle-school bully, puerile and juvenile. Blech.

  43. Russ Rogers
    March 17th, 2013 @ 11:59 pm

Ashley Judd didn’t COMPARE Apple to Rape. She said that Apple was using “Conflict Metals” from Africa, from regions where Warlords have used MASS RAPE as a terrorism tactic. That’s not “comparing” something to rape. That’s reporting that the International Crisis of MASS RAPES is occurring in conflict zones in Africa. And that Warlords are profiting hand over fist, by selling Conflict Metals and Gems, that eventually get used in products from USA Companies.

For Crowder to MOCK that in any way, well that just makes him look like the biggest jack-donkey since Todd Akin!

    Q: “…how long…”
A: We can’t. An atmosphere of lies cannot support a civil society. Think about how high the level of distrust is in any real estate transaction done lately. Remember the mountain of paper you had to sign off on and how long it took? It won’t take much more to completely gridlock the process. The same goes for our politics. When people decide they can’t believe anything they hear, they will start to act on that belief. We will then discover just how fragile our civilization is and how easy it is to wreck it ala Cloward-Piven. It’s a lot harder to regain trust than to maintain it.

Bravo, Smitty on the pushback against the lies. BTW, lying is on the short list of things God hates. Just sayin’.
