BREAKING: Kaitlyn Hunt Refuses Plea Offer, Will Face Trial on June 20

Kaitlyn Hunt, the Florida 18-year-old who admitted a sexual affair with a 14-year-old girl, has rejected a plea-bargain offer from prosecutors in Indian River County and will face trial June 20 on charges of lewd and lascivious battery.

UPDATE: Hunt’s supporters had mounted an online campaign claiming that she was the victim of homophobic prejudice in an effort to pressure prosecutors to drop the felony charges against her.

While prosecutors had offered a plea bargain that would have kept Hunt out of prison on supervised release, Hunt and her supporters wanted the charges reduced to a misdemeanor. Hunt’s supporters say because her sexual involvement with a 14-year-old freshman girl — which began inside a toilet stall at Sebastian High School — was consensual, she should not be charged with a felony.

UPDATE II: Liberal organizations and major media have united behind the #FreeKate movement’s argument that Hunt is a victim, and have demonized the parents of the 14-year-old as “bigoted religious zealots.” However, in an interview with the local CBS affiliate yesterday, Jim and Laurie Smith, denied those accusations, saying they twice warned Hunt to stay away from their daughter. The Smiths say they only went to police after a Jan. 4 incident in which their daughter went missing overnight; a sheriff’s department arrest affidavit in the case says the 14-year-old ran away and spent that night at Hunt’s house, where the two teens “put their fingers inside of each other’s vaginas, put their mouths on each other’s vaginas, and both of them used a vibrator on each other to insert it in each other’s vaginas.”

UPDATE III: It is doubtful that Hunt’s attorneys will attempt what Da Tech identifies as The Roman Polanski Defense:

“Judges want to f— young girls. Juries want to f— young girls. Everyone wants to f— young girls!”

But the cross-examination should certainly be interesting, eh?

You should read the whole thing. The automatic conflation of “gay = victim” is one of those emotional buttons that liberals love to push. And speaking of pushing buttons, hit the tip jar.

    Things like this divide people into two camps: Parents vs. everybody else.

    There are no parents of 14-year-olds who think it should be legal for someone to do to their child what Kaitlyn Hunt did to the Smiths’ daughter.

    Yes, and their names are put on federal predator registries so that the rest of their lives can be hell on earth. The same should happen to this girl, or the laws should be changed. 14 year olds either are too young to consent or they’re not. Personally, I think they are too young for consent.

    Consent (as the statute says) has nothing to do with it. Let’s not pretend that molesters in general don’t say “but he/she wanted me to!”.

    Do we accept that?

    The victim is 14; how do you argue that this is just fine?

    Of course not: The reason cases like this are nearly always plea-bargained is that prosecutors don’t want to have to put the “consenting victim” on the witness stand and subject her to cross-examination.

    It is therefore selfish cruelty on the part of Kaitlyn Hunt to insist that, because prosecutors wouldn’t let her off with a misdemeanor charge, she will instead force this case to a trial that will inflict so much trauma on the young girl she claims to have loved. This whole situation is a horrible thing to contemplate — imagine your 14-year-old freshman daughter running away to be dildoed by a senior on the basketball team! — and for liberals to try to turn the perpetrator into a victimized hero-martyr should outrage all decent people.

    BTW, you will probably not be surprised to know that Anonymous “doxed” the 14-year-old and her parents.

Let’s not pretend this is an elementary age kid being violated and tricked by an adult, not understanding what sex is, this 14 year old teenager knows EXACTLY what she is doing.

    She knows what makes HER feel good, she knows what she wants, she isn’t being taken advantage of, for god sake, the other teenager is just a few years older then she is? Tell me, hate monger, where is the victim? By hate monger, I mean, you hate the thought that young people are able to make their own choices, make big decisions in their life.

    Gay is irreverent here in my eyes, to me, this is yet another case where teenaged kids are the victim of control freak adults, where young people get ZERO respect. Makes me sick, and all of you who want to see this chick’s life get ruined over a consensual relationship should be ashamed, and I would tell that to the 14 year old’s parents, the prosecutor, and all the government bureaucrats who are in the business of ruining people’s lives.

    The dividing line between child and adult is a fine one that moves as you change era and culture.

    But any healthy culture protects their children because children, by any definition, are not mature enough to deal with the problems this nasty world produces. This is a major role of a good parent.

    Like it or not “Rocket Propelled Grenade” Prince, in this era and culture, a 14 year old is a child. Thus, your hate filled rant is not relevant.

    You, sir, are an ignorant bigot. I am a parent and I consider this kind of sexual activity among consenting teenagers to be both healthy and normal. In a perfect world kids would wait longer to have sex, but the world is not perfect, and most of us started experimenting at around 14, yet we turned out fine. Monsters who want to lock up young women for having normal sexual urges and interactions are the twisted ones who we need to keep our kids safe from.

    Most statutory rape laws differentiate with regard to the age differences of the parties involved. What Polanski did to a 13 year old would involve a considerable jail sentence and is reprehensible. An 18 year old with a 14 year old is a much more minor offense. 14yos and 18yos go to the same schools, attend the same parties, most people over 21 consider them to be peers. I’d prefer 14yos not to be sexually active, but the world is what it is, and I’d hardly object if I found out my 14yo daughter was dating a girl who just turned 18.

    I’m curious about something: when you were 18, did you seek out a 14-year-old to have sex with? I know I didn’t; I’d have thought that rather silly, if not perverse.

    Actions have consequences. When you choose an action, you choose the consequences of that action. If you don’t want the consequences, don’t choose the action. It’s painfully simple.

    I don’t see this. The difference between an 18 year old and a 14 year old is pretty extreme, and the social distance between a senior and a freshman is pretty large.

    Perhaps what I’m seeing is different from what you’re seeing; I will still maintain that Ms. Hunt is in the wrong, here, morally as well as legally. Further, I’d say the same if her victim were a boy of 14, simply to obviate that particular gambit.
