Remember the infamous business plan from the South Park episode?

Say hello to the president’s economic theory:

It would be an insult to readers to explain why this won’t work, but I will say that in my adult lifetime, every increase in the minimum wage has been followed within a year or two by a recession. Drew M. at AOSHQ endeavors to address the flaws in Obama’s idea, but it’s depressing to think that any adult can’t figure out why raising the minimum wage inevitably causes an increase in unemployment.

And speaking of depressing things to think about, we’ve got 9 million people on disability, 15% of them for mood disorders!

Mood disorders! More than a million Americans are currently collecting a check every month because they feel sad.

It that’s not enough to make you fly into a manic rage . . .

The Declaration of Independence speaks of “the pursuit of happiness” as a natural right, but we can’t re-distribute happiness, can’t we?Nevertheless, we’ve got 1.3 million people getting disability payments for mood disorders, and Medicaid pays for their happy pills.

If that’s not enough to drive you crazy, try this:

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on Thursday said Democrats would not support a budget deal that does not extend emergency unemployment benefits, which are set to lapse on Dec. 28 for about 1.3 million people.

Right: We must spend more money we don’t have to pay people not to work and WE ARE SEVENTEEN TRILLION DOLLARS IN DEBT!

OK, so now that you’re in a frothing bipolar rage, hurry to the nearest mental hospital and get diagnosed: Obama-Induced Mania.

There’s a lot of that going around lately . . .

    Obama and Pelosi fully understand that the only people who will ever support them are dumb enough to believe anything.

    I am surprised they haven’t just proposed printing an extra few billion dollars in bills and giving every poor Democrat a big fat check for Kwanzaa.

    not to date myself but 3 times in my working lifetime I’ve gone DOWN from skilled labor to min wage because of it being raised…
    3 DAMN TIMES and I was lucky each time that my boss valued my work enough NOT to lay me off as they had to do to other employess to make up the difference on the cost of the rise…
    It irritates me to NO END when I hear idiots who have no idea what it takes to run a SUCCESSFUL business prattle on about wages/insurance etc…
    ARGH!!

    Here’s what I remember: After several years in the work force when minimum wage was $3.35, I had finally made it to the point where my salary was $275 a week — twice minimum wage, at last! — whereupon Congress, as if to spite me personally, then immediately raised the minimum wage to $4.25. Instead of being at 205% of minimum, I was now at a mere 162% of minimum — and that was in 1991, which was the start of Bush recession. The newspaper business was hard hit by a loss of ad revenue, and I went three or four years without getting another raise.

    For the average liberal Democrat, jobs and wages are viewed as a the purpose of any business, and by extension, the whole economy. That, of course, is false. Jobs and wages are a cost, as any business owner or accountant will tell you. Increase costs, decrease demand, in this case for labor. It happens every time.

    Previously, the upgrades to the minimum wage were after the prevailing wages had already progressed past the new minimum wages. Basically, if you were worth it, you were already past min. wage.

    So the impact wasn’t as bad as it will be now – with rampant unemployment already.

    This’ll be a doozy.

    If you’re healthy and can do some mild labor, you can get a job that pays over $10/hour after a month.

    That’s what I got at FedEx in 2006. I have little tolerance for those who are physically able, yet won’t push themselves.

    One thing people forget, BTW, is that raising the minimum wage also raises employer costs which are a percentage of wages, such as FICA, Worker’s Compensation, Unemployment Insurance etc. So a one dollar hike in wages is really around $1.25 or more depending on where you live.

    It is not about economics (it may very well end up driving more people onto unemployment and reducing jobs), it is about changing the topic from THE LEGISLATION THAT DARENOTH SAY ITS OWN NAME.

    I made $346 per week as a Second Lieutenant in 1991. Unfortunately, because Obamacare met every realistic expectation, the Dems have to pivot to unfettered immigration, unionization efforts, and war – either surrendering our forces in A-stan, or starting another war.

    by the time the wage works it way thru all the levels of business from the raw materials to the product on the shelf, a 1$ increase in wages generally results in what you pay at the counter going up 1.50, a net loss of half the increase which leads to more cries of raise the min wage…. learned in Business Economics 101 in trades school 15 yrs ago. I doubt it’s changed since then.
