Glenn Beck’s #LGBT Agenda?

Posted on | January 22, 2014 | 91 Comments

My brother Kirby called this afternoon and began the conversation by saying, “You know if that kid in Florida kills himself . . .”

Yeah, they’ll blame me.

Volunteer Official Scapegoat™ of the Hate Olympics.

Someone has to be the conservative who notices things you’re not supposed to notice and says things you’re not supposed to say.

The chief qualifications for this gig are (a) scorn for popularity and (b) disregard for the short-term goals of the Republican Party. If your goal is to become the Popular Person Embraced by the Official GOP, you can never speak the kind of truth that makes people uncomfortable, you can never risk anything in a fight, and you are ultimately doomed to a defensive strategy of retreat.

Glenn Beck said on his Monday show that anti-gay people “have no place in this country.” . . .
“Anybody within the sound of my voice that hates a gay person because they’re gay, you have no place calling yourself a fan of mine,” Beck said. “You have no place in this country.”
Beck has spoken out in support of gay marriage several times before. Earlier in January, he voiced his opposition against Russia’s anti-gay laws and announced that he would stand by the LGBT advocacy group GLAAD in their fight against “hetero-fascism.”
“You are not a fan of mine — you have no friendship here — if you hate people because they’re gay,” Beck also added. “You have no place claiming that you’re a fan of this show. . . . If that’s who you are, I don’t want to have anything to do with you.”

Of course, the problem with Beck’s rhetoric here is that it conflates political opposition to a certain policy agenda (or religious objections to homosexual behavior) with “hate,” which is an assertion so absurd that I hesitate to dignify it with a response.

Look, my religious beliefs condemn premarital sex and re-marriage after divorce. Do I “hate” people who don’t live up to those biblical standards of behavior? No one has ever accused me of such a hate, because there is no recognized Promiscuity Lobby trying to mobilize an identity politics constituency to vote Democrat by labeling Republicans a hate group on such a basis. Once you get past the irrational bullying tactics of the Left and look at the actual data, you recognize that the gay agenda represents an effort to re-order social norms on behalf of an extremely small (but quite vocal and well-funded) minority:

The Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law, a gay and lesbian think tank, released a study in April 2011 estimating based on its research that just 1.7 percent of Americans between 18 and 44 identify as gay or lesbian, while another 1.8 percent — predominantly women — identify as bisexual. Far from underestimating the ranks of gay people because of homophobia, these figures included a substantial number of people who remained deeply closeted, such as a quarter of the bisexuals. A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention survey of women between 22 and 44 that questioned more than 13,500 respondents between 2006 and 2008 found very similar numbers: Only 1 percent of the women identified themselves as gay, while 4 percent identified as bisexual.

So the LGBT coalition encompasses 3.5 percent of the population, max, to whom the other 96.5 percent are expected to kowtow?

Never has such a large majority dog been so easily wagged by such a small minority tail, led by radicals who habitually impugn all opposition in the most vituperative language imaginable. Dana Pico at First Street Journal notes the implicit insistence “that homosexual relationships are just as good, just as wholesome, just as normal, as heterosexual ones,” i.e., compulsory approval. As I explained more than five years ago (“Gay Rights, Gay Rage,” The American Spectator, Nov.  17, 2008), those who speak of homosexuality in the language of “rights” are not about liberty, but rather about equality in the most radical sense and, as Richard Weaver famously warned, Ideas Have Consequences.

This is how we reach the point at which people believe they have the “right” to make you bake them a lesbian wedding cake. This is how we reach the point where no one is supposed to object to teenage boys getting paid for a six-way “bareback orgy” on video.

Do you think this kind of stuff is worth discussing? “You have no place in this country.” Ace says Glenn Beck is now “all about attempting to get TimeWarner and ComCast to pick up his cable channel.”

Yeah, because MSNBC needs more competition.

Believing in tolerance and forcing acceptance are very different.
GB has been going off on Putin’s anti-gay stuff heavily.
I am anti-gay. It is unnatural. Not God’s law, not natural law, not Categorical Imperative Law. But, let ’em do what they want.
BUT, don’t tell me two guys are married, that they should adopt, etc.
I tolerate but do not accept.
I may lose this battle in the culture war but I get to believe what I want. I treat people the same in my interactions.
I have treated drunk drivers who killed innocents and bad guy rapists. I did my best for them because that is what I swore to do as a doctor.
But don’t tell me what they do is fine. I can tolerate a lot even if I don’t accept much. It’s called standards.

Maybe if Gov Cuomo requires video evidence of gay sex to stay in NY, Glenn will move all his employees out?

When someone in Russia says that they want to kill gays at the Olympics for just being gay that is when you become pro-gay. Not pro-gay in full acceptance of the lifestyle against your religious believes but pro-human decency to stand up for gays right to live.

He started out on the radio as a talk show host who relentlessly poked fun at leftists and conspiracy nuts. He was funny. The theme song went “All the freaks pick up their phone When Glenn Beck turns on a microphone!”

But then later he started reading the Founding documents and behaved as if he were the first to discover a hidden secret. And he did the very worst thing a man can do to himself: he began taking himself too seriously.

Slutwalk, anyone? Normalizing and in fact encouraging promiscuity is a vital part of the progressive agenda. Undermining shared morals, community standards of decency, and social institutions and traditions that promote self-restraint is necessary for progressives to move people to government dependence.

Very few people “hate” homosexuals. You work with them, you are related to them, you have some as friends. What people do hate is a double standard of behavior and labeling anyone who disagrees with their radical fringe as bigots. They are a gay mafia.

As for Beck, he is pandering. Sorry dude, that is the same thing Kristiekreme did in Jersey. Did his Democrat pals come help him? Beck is just doing the same and will find the same fate as Christie. Because his gay pals will turn out to be gay scorpions. And Beck is a frog.

I don’t hate anybody except communists and their sympathizers.

I try to stay out of other people’s private lives (and expect them to stay out of mine). But demanding approval is over the top. I can’t offer sanction of behaviors which a) are against my religious beliefs and b) are frankly abnormal and usually self-destructive of those who engage.

To pretend, as one commenter here did on an earlier post, that a high school boy doing multiple-partner gay porn is just another after-school job, is in fact destructive in itself – of honest discussion, of morality, and of truth.

But Glenn understands that getting approval from the powers that be in media involves checking a few mandatory boxes and he is willing to pay the price. That’s on him.

    Thanks for the link!

Perhaps Mr Beck might have understood this missive better — you know that he’ll see it — if you had said that you condemn alcoholism, and the behavior which leads to alcohol addiction, but that doesn’t mean you hate alcoholics as people.

I remember a time when the homosexual lobby told us that what people did in their bedrooms was nobody else’s business, and, as long as it involves only consenting adults, I absolutely agree. Why, then, are they so insistent about telling us what they do in their bedrooms?

  30. Dana
    January 23rd, 2014 @ 6:57 am

One thing that you will notice is that I always use the term “homosexual,” and never the word “gay” to refer to them. The word “gay” means bright, lively, colorful, happy and carefree, which is what the homosexual lobby would like you to think that they are, but it’s a total misapprehension of the word, for propagandistic purposes.

Yes, the frog and scorpion thing. The gay men I know are, for the most part, funny, charming, cultured, friendly, compassionate, and all-around good company. I have to force myself to remember that they are scorpions, will vote for abortion, will destroy marriage; they hate God and his Church, and will denounce me to the regime at some point in the not-too-distant future. I enjoy their company at my peril.

Yes, but where are these hordes of people who hate gays merely for being gay? They’re as scarce as Klansmen. BTW, there is an important difference between being gay and being merely homosexual. ‘Gay’ is a homosexual who refuses to accept that sodomy is sinful (out and proud.) One can be homosexual w/o being gay, IOW can struggle against his disordered temptation, e.g. Courage.

I ‘hate’ gays because they hate God, and would kill Him if they could. I don’t ‘hate’ mere homosexuals, since they are struggling against concupiscence just as I am. And I confess that my ‘hatred’ for gays is tepid at best. I’m too lazy and self-centered to work up much of a righteous condemnation of sodomites, and I was warned by Jesus about throwing stones, etc., and I think that’s how most straights feel.

Glenn Beck can be so frustrating because he does have a unique take, and he seems to recognize more than most the importance of culture in shaping politics. He also can be quite funny, especially on the radio. Then he’ll get into rants like this, or on some conspiracy kick, or he’ll do the over-dramatic, hushed voice weepy monologue. In the end, the negatives slightly outweigh the positives, which is a shame because he does have a tremendous reach.

  37. RS
    January 23rd, 2014 @ 9:11 am

If Beck is now confessing a unbridled libertarianism, he’s completely missed the fact that the radical homosexual “rights” agenda, of which marriage is a part, is designed to destroy the only thing which stands between government intrusion upon our personal liberty and autonomy is the traditional family. Destroy marriage and the family and the only thing left is the all-powerful state. Beck has sold his soul for 30 pieces of silver. I hope he find it worth it.

As for Beck, look, he’s trying to get his show into more cable systems and the Revealed Word in the urbancentric media is Gays are This Huge Market That Must Be Appealed To, particularly given the seemingly disproprtionate number of gays employed in that field.

Moral proscription & stewardship in the law is “statist” and the treaty lines in the culture war are renegotiated periodically. THIS is the path to electoral victory! TOLERANCE!!

Their definition of “freedom” seems to be similar to Karl Marx’s.

It’s truly amazing how far the perverted ideology of Marx has thoroughly infiltrated and taken over Western civilization.

Even his words – capitalism, for example – are blithely used without even the slightest idea regarding their origins or implications.

I haven’t taken Glenn Beck seriously for several years now. His understanding of some things (like American history) is shallow and superficial. I believe in tolerance for gays, but do not endorse their lifestyle and will not be a cheerleader for gays as Beck apparently has become. As Taki Magazine recently noted, homosexuality is a defect like asthma, and though we shouldn’t persecute people with defects, we do not need to have asthma-pride parades either.

My feeling is that the right should leave gays alone. Don’t persecute them, don’t insult them, don’t quote scripture at them, and don’t single out individual gays for ridicule in public forums. It is self defeating. It accomplishes nothing. It hurts us rather than helping us.
