Feminist College Girls Gone … Well, OK, Not ‘Wild,’ Exactly. But My Point Is …

Future Cat Ladies of America, unite!

Looking at photos from the “Young Feminist Leadership Conference,” one cannot help feeling a sense of pity: Here they are, young women just starting out in life — some of them moderately attractive, even — committing themselves to a philosophy that guarantees their futures will be consumed by angry baby-killing bitterness.

Hey, I said “moderately attractive.” Your mileage may vary. Some guys like the Chubby Nerd Girl look. De gustibus non est disputandum.

So, what did the Young Feminists do last weekend during their National Conference? They heard from Old Feminists like the hate-filled fanatic Eleanor Smeal and the radical atheist man-hater Kim Gandy. There were panel discussions on “Why Prison Reform Matters to the Feminist Movement,” “Defending Your Local Women’s Health Center” and (naturally) “Rape is Rape: The Fight Against Campus Sexual Assault.”

(Remember: “No woman is heterosexual” and “PIV is always rape, OK?”)

My favorite item on the NYFLC agenda, however, was “Ecofeminism: Gendered Impact of Climate Change.” Why? Because that panel discussion was moderated by “Sara Alcid, Programs and Policy Associate, Reproductive Health Technologies Project.”

We all remember self-described “queer feminist” Sara Alcid, right?

“Heteronormativity and gender roles also rear their ugly heads on Valentine’s Day. Gifts for ‘him’ or ‘her’ are clearly divided and marked and it’s almost impossible to find cards that represent queer couples. . . .
“It’s not hard to see why Valentine’s Day is problematic for many feminists. Celebrated traditionally, Valentine’s Day magnifies many of the very systems of domination that we work to critique and dismantle.”

Sara Alcid, “Valentine’s Day: What’s A Feminist To Do?” EverydayFeminism.com, Feb. 14, 2013

Well, the patriarchy got thoroughly smashed at the conference, I guess, but there were murmurs about lingering heteronormativity.

Beyond the complaints about insufficient “queer” representation, the National Young Feminist Leadership Conference made headlines by attacking conservative journalist Katherine Timpf:

Campus Reform’s Katherine Timpf attended the National Young Feminist Leadership Conference (NYFLC) — an event which promised to be about “inclusivity” and welcoming everyone — only to be told that “conservative” women were not welcome.
Timpf attempted to ask students’ their opinions on feminism, but conference organizers made an announcement advising participants not to talk to Campus Reform because it was a “conservative” outlet.
The organizers also followed Timpf around the conference to interrupt her conversations with students to tell them the same thing.
“They’re a group that’s conservative, so what we are fighting for is not something…” one organizer told a student who was talking with Timpf, prompting the student to walk away. . . .
“You guys aren’t wanted here,” a participant told the reporter after the warning.
“I thought this was supposed to be an inclusive thing, why am I being excluded because of where I work?” Timpf asked another organizer after another interruption.
“Because the place that you work is not inclusive,” the organizer responded.

After seeing these feminist festivities, I’m sure many young women are asking, “What can I do? I’d like to be a feminist, but I can’t afford to attend a national conference or spend years getting a Women’s Studies degree from an elite private university.”

Relax, ladies. Becoming a feminist is actually very simple:

  1. Get an abortion;
  2. Become a lesbian;
  3. Vote Democrat;
    and
  4. Cats. Lots of cats.

You’re welcome. Always glad to help.

    It took me four or five seconds to get that one, but it was worth the wait.

    Anamika doesn’t understand that I have readers who call my attention to items like that Vanderbilt thing — which was, in fact, (a) quite a popular post, and (b) a commentary on the “rape culture” theme.

    This post, on the other hand, was a belated catch-up: Many bloggers had commented on Katherine Timpf’s experience at the NYFLC and, rather than merely repeat the Outraged Over Exclusion at the ‘Inclusive’ Conference meme, I took time to research what else happened at the conference, so that my blogging actually added information (and jokes) to what was already available.

    I first read about the lovely Ms Hunt last spring in a small piece at Breitbart… I was the first and only one to comment on it, but it made me think so I goOgled the case and discovered TOM—Mr McCain was virtually the only one examining what, as it turned out, is a very important matter!

    What is “more than tolerated,” other than accepted and respected and loved? It is a requirement that we not only don’t criminalize their preferences, but that we say that their sexual choices are just as good and wholesome and normal as those of heterosexuals. Well, sorry, but no.

    I’d say otherwise. Our esteemed host is attempting to separate the whacko feminists from the people who believe, as a simple matter of fairness, that women ought to have an equal opportunity to try things, and that people ought to be receive equal pay for equal work. Most people, including most Republicans, believe that. The problem is that the radical feminists have festooned the notion of feminism with so many silly things that it has become a sick caricature.

    He is noting that the radical feminists are very heavily into saying that lesbianism is the apex of feminism, but such a notion excludes the vast, vast majority of women who have normal sexual attractions.

    The thing is: conservatives certainly can attract those people who would call themselves feminists at the basic level, as is evidenced by the fact that Republicans regularly win (slight) majorities among married women. Most married women work outside the home these days, and the feminism of fairness, rather than the feminism of special needs, is what they believe.

    Why, for saying that we ought to look women in the eyes? 🙂

    The difference is that God does allow that kind of judgment on people that go against what He wants.

    The climate change thing is merely a hoax.

    No, for implying that the way women may dress would in any way influence any male most men with a beating heart to innocently scan beyond the facialar region of the feminine figure!

    Part of it is simplistic thinking, but another part is the actual effort of the feminists, specifically, and the left in general, to regularize thought: the leadership decide what the left will think, and then excoriate any who don’t toe the line on every issue. The notion of a pro-life feminist, or a pro-life liberal, is just an oxymoron to them, but, if you had seen the development of the 1970s liberals, and tried to project their thinking forward to today, you’d have expected liberals to be the ones who were pro-life, and conservatives the ones who supported abortion.

    The play of words by the left, once again, fascinates me. Those who deign themselves feminists have, for the most part, abandoned the feminine. And the tweets from the lesbians demanding more programming for the queer. As if there were no lesbian only conferences. I don’t see how they could be more selfish and petty. These biological females who regularly disparage women in traditional roles as mothers and wives give away their agenda. It is not enough to be allowed to pursue their own ideals. These feminists must assert that they are unquestionably superior. But I ask you, what could more demonstrably be feminine than bearing and nurturing children?

    Using fascist shaming techniques right out of the Cultural Revolution to force out the Mozilla CEO is a “Big Victory” only in the mind of a politically correct stooge. Even Andrew Sullivan thought it was counterproductive.

    The last cat I had was very much a people person. I couldn’t sit on the couch without her coming over and plopping down on my lap. She always slept at the foot of our bed. Sadly, she was diagnosed with cancer and I had to have her put to sleep. Several times after that, I actually felt something jump on the bed at the very spot she always occupied. It was the weirdest thing.
