Emma Sulkowicz Is a Vindictive, Dishonest and Crazy Slut — Allegedly

That word “allegedly” is important to add because all I’m doing is giving a thumbnail summary of what Paul Nungesser alleges in his federal lawsuit against Columbia University, its president Lee Bollinger and Professor Jon Kessler. They say that revenge is a dish best served cold, and Nungesser has served up a buffet of revenge on Emma “Mattress Girl” Sulkowicz. She tried and failed to get Nungesser expelled from Columbia with what was, according to his lawsuit, a false rape accusation. When that failed, allegedly, Sulkowicz convinced two other Columbia students to accuse Nungesser of sexual misconduct and both of those accusations also failed. That’s when, with the approval Professor Kessler, Sulkowicz began her “performance art” project, carrying a mattress around the Columbia campus to publicize her accusations against Nungesser, despite the fact that he had been completely cleared of wrongdoing.

Now, if we ponder every possible avenue by which Paul Nungesser could (a) vindicate his reputation, (b) possibly collect a large cash settlement, and (c) deliver a brutal payback to Sulkowicz for her effort to destroy him, I doubt he could have done better than what he has done: Instead of suing Sulkowicz, he sues Columbia. Why?

  1. Columbia’s endowment is reported at $9.2 billion — that’s billion with a “b” — which means they may (and probably should) decide that quietly paying Nungesser a couple of million bucks is a small price to pay for ridding themselves of this bad publicity.
  2. Suing Columbia calls attention to how the university violated its own policy by permitting Sulkowicz to breach the confidentially requirements of the university’s sexual misconduct hearing process and, indeed, by endorsing this breach through Professor Kessler’s role in Sulkowicz’s “performance art” project.
  3. Most of all, by not naming Sulkowicz as a defendant, this means that Sulkowicz does not have cause to respond to the allegations he makes against her in the Columbia lawsuit, and guess what? You can’t be sued for defamation because of allegations made in a lawsuit.

In other words, if Nungesser had said some of these things during an interview with a reporter — e.g., that Sulkowicz contracted chlamydia after she had sex with two guys at a party — maybe she could have sued him for defamation. And if he had named her as a defendant, they could have fought it out in court. As it is, all this negative stuff about her is now a matter of public record: “Nungesser said X, Y and Z,” and there isn’t a damned thing she can do to prevent anyone from quoting it.

There is plenty of legitimate basis for Nungesser suing Columbia, but it’s the irreparable damage his suit will do to Sulkowicz (and her clearly dubious claim that he raped her) which is the real news here. Of course, Sulkowicz doesn’t get it, providing this clueless quote to the Columbia student newspaper:

“It’s ridiculous that he would read it as a ‘bullying strategy,’ especially given his continued public attempts to smear my reputation, when really it’s just an artistic expression of the personal trauma I’ve experienced at Columbia. If artists are not allowed to make art that reflect on our experiences, then how are we to heal?”

Sweetheart, you are done. Finished. Over. Maybe you don’t realize it yet, but you will never recover from this, not ever.

Be sure to read paragraphs 16, 18 and 26 — especially 26 — and don’t miss the footnote at the bottom of page 7.

“Punch back twice as hard,” indeed.

    I have been fortunate in life. Some of my bad decisions have cancelled others out. Others have been recoverable. And others have dissipated with time. Fortunately none of the bad decisions were on the order of “Damn, the cops! Put the pedal to the metal, throw the shit out the window!” or “I can get away if I run down this alley and jump this twelve foot high chain link fence with the Doberman on the other side…”

    Thing is, that was before the Internet and Twitter and Lord knows what else that’s going to be searchable forever. One day she is going to find that being “That Mattress Girl” is not a resume enhancer. She’ll walk into the break room and everyone will go silent, trying to stifle snickers.

    To me the thing most weird about this woman is the utter lack of boundaries when it came to partners. Suddenly there is the sound of screeching brakes and business as usual became rape using some principles I can’t detect. As is usual with the insulated world of insane feminism, I suspect a court will be able to detect principles just fine, which is to say – none. If it was possible for a modern feminist to lie while sleeping they’d do so.

    I ran with a pretty rough crowd when I was a teenager and I also know what a party atmosphere around a college is like. I don’t remember a woman so willing to be passed around. What’s even more bizarre is for her to act as if she suddenly has such a ladylike sense of refinement that is the exact opposite.

    Did she completely forget what she wrote on the internet? Basically you have a woman demonstrating a bizarre martyrdom over precisely nothing. Feminism is con game where women are never wrong and men never right. Given those court documents, it’s evident she’s a symbol of an ideology that is routinely hysterical over nothing. Unfortunately the world of female supremacy is colliding with the world of law, and this school is going to make its decision to willingly participate in the mainstreaming of hate speech against men an extremely expensive one. What’s even more telling is how no feminists have thrown this woman to the side of the road. When you’re never wrong, why would they?

    What’s even more telling is how no feminists have thrown this woman to the side of the road.

    The Feminist-Industrial Complex requires victims, whose unhappiness provides the raw material from which grievances are manufactured. Therefore, celebrating Sulkowicz’s exhibitionistic victimhood — the gaudy ostentation of her misery — is a way for feminists to encourage other (self-declared) victims to make public spectacles of themselves in a similar manner. Then the feminists will say, “The plural of anecdote is data” — the sheer number of lunatic victims ranting in public will function as proof that the “campus rape epidemic” is real — and demand more ACTION to prevent students from engaging in heterosexuality.

    This is all so tediously predictable.

    After reading that complaint — especially the sections recommended by our host — I see some potential similarities between this case and the Belle Knox, namely the use of pornography. By her own admission Belle Knox began viewing internet porn at age 11 and by age 18 she was being paid to be sexually abused on film. Miss Sulkowicz seems to have a fixation on Teh Buttsex and other unnatural sexual behaviors commonly portrayed in porn.

    We have been told by our culture that porn = “freedom” (notably in the 90’s Hollywood propaganda films The People vs Larry Flint and Boogie Nights, and to a lesser extent in other films). In reality porn and other sexually deviant behaviors do not embody freedom but slavery to ones’ base passions.

    From the account of Samson and Delilah to Bill Clinton, history is loaded with stories of lust blinding people and subverting reason. Even if someone isn’t fond of Christianity, as some commenters here at TOM have indicated I would suggest reading Euripides’ play The Bacchae which addresses what happens when a society becomes possessed by the spirit of Dionysus (wine, intoxication, ritual madness and sex).

    Back in college, the first time I saw any porn I knew instinctively that it was all BS. Even aside from the non stop sexual proclivities of pool men and package delivery drivers, I knew right away that women did not long to perform fellatio or anal sex. Porn sells a fantasy as ridiculous as any Twilight novel.
