A Moderately Gentle Reminder to the Commentariat

Hopefully the flood of racist/white nationalist/Nazi idiots is becoming a trickle now that I’ve blacklisted about two dozen of the scum, but I’m shutting down comments after a couple of days wherever they’ve been pooping -just to be on the safe side and incidentally to frustrate any late-arriving subliterate fools. However, I feel it necessary to remind our Loyal Commenters of the First Rule of Troll Feeding here at The Other McCain, and that rule is DON’T. Most of you have been here long enough that I shouldn’t have to remind you, but evidently I must. The second rule, of course, is to let me know I need to bring the banhammer and the mop to the comments. Thanks, by the way, to Loyal Commenter (or lurker, who knows) R*H*, who did a great job of calling in the fire support today. If you’re ever in Vegas, I got some BOGO coupons for beer & Jack Daniels at one of the local casinos you can help me use up. 🙂

While I am dishing out the thanks, I note that I am inexcusably tardy in thanking all of you who buy books, music, movies, auto parts, cat litter, etc. through the Amazon links on my post. Every time you buy something through those links, I get a taste, and (among other things) that helps keep my Kindle filled with stuff I can review for your amusement. It doesn’t really matter what the link is for; if you’re not looking for new shoes, watches, or intimate apparel, you can just go to what you do want once you get to Amazon, and I still get a piece of the action.

If you want to express gratitude in a more personal way, here’s my wish list. Go nuts. Or not. 🙂
Also, if you think somebody really needs to see my book, but won’t buy it themselves, you can always buy a copy and gift it to them. At $0.99, it’s the next best thing to free.

And now it’s time for me to crawl off to bed, for it’s been two days without an In The Mailbox, I owe y’all, and I need to be in the tax mines at 11.

UPDATE (more like OOPSDATE, amirite?): Overslept, so In The Mailbox will be up this evening. Promise.

    Persistent little critters werent they?
Its sad to think the anti-semites believe they have a chance of “converting” anyone here.
But its so easy to get sucked into trying to argue with them, but remember this.

You cant reason a person out of a position they havent reasoned themselves into”.

And since reason isnt the extreme left/nazi/anti-Semetic loons strong point..

Most people aren’t really reasoned into being philosemitic either, it’s more you grow up with them and the Indiana Jones movies were pretty cool, so your baseline opinion on Jews is generally going to be positive.

It’s after you grow up and see the long-term effects of their culture when you have to start weighing whether a Steven Spielberg is worth tolerating a Bryan Singer, or a David Mamet a John Stewart.

That crowd is always exactly like that. Back in the ’90s, before blogging caught on, there were message boards instead. Those which were lightly moderated were always subject to invasions from the kooks. They were big white supremacists and antisemites, the usual tells were there. If steps were not taken, they would flood a board.

Even the most ungoverned sites had to address the situation before too long. They are relentless. It’s just now they aren’t tolerated as long on conservative blogs and websites, so they mostly stick to their own little dens.

There is no point reasoning with them, there is no reason. It is driven by fear and emotion…which is the place these collective ideologies are born.

This is actually a pretty good list of who that “term” applies to:

Disagree. Among my grandparents contemporaries, it was (I believe) considered declasse to socialize with Jews even though you might have to have business relationships with them. This is, of course, a bourgeois concern, and one buttressed (I think) by the fact that bourgeois Jews and bourgeois old-stock Americans tended to have quite different sensibilities, manners and tastes (a distinction not to be found betwixt bourgeois old-stock and bourgeois Irish Catholics). Snobbery is a what happens when a good thing (a concern for standards) goes rancid, and Jews are not immune to it.

Also, if you look at anti-semitism in Europe, it could be quite ferocious where you had certain social configurations. Where you had a demographically large population of Jews with an obtrusive position in the merchant class and intelligentsia (as you did in Hungary, where educated people were as often as not Jewish; and Poland, where the bourgeoisie was German and Jewish and the military and nobility and peasantry Slavic) or a smaller population with neuralgic relations with the peasant population (as in Roumania, where commercial agriculture was dominated by Jews), you had much more inter-group resentment than you did in loci like Bulgaria, where the Jewish population was smaller and largely composed of unpretentious artisans and merchants).

These characters I suspect have idiopathic resentments, some of them originating in bits of disagreeable personal history (e.g. a supervisor who gave them a bad evaluation). People who have a grand opinion of themselves not borne out by their actual accomplishments (think Lee Harvey Oswald) can be trouble-and-a-half for those around them and the objects of their recrimination quite surprising.

    July 29th, 2015 @ 11:00 am

Honestly, I did not expect the troll-flood that resulted from my criticism of the “cuckservative” meme. I notice that some other people on the Right, having failed to recognize that ths “cuckservative” thing is a clever social-engineering gambit (inadvertantly promoted by people who think they are too smart to be fooled by expert social engineers) are going to war with their own friends and allies, which is exactly what was intended from the start.

When I saw the name Brooks Bayne involved in this, I recognized “cuckservative” as a cunning fraud. To quote the Godfather: “But I didn’t know until this day that it was Barzini all along.”

    Thanks for your work, Wombat.

“… you grow up with them and the Indiana Jones movies were pretty cool, so your baseline opinion on Jews is generally going to be positive.”

OK, stop that shit. I was born in 1959, the son of a World War II veteran who was wounded within an inch of his life fighting the Nazis in France. It is absurd to tell me that my views on this subject were shaped by Stephen Spielberg movies. (“Brainwashed! By the JOOOS!”)

As for “their culture” — really? Are you saying that Jews, collectively, are to blame for every bad thing any left-wing Jew ever did? That collectivist mentality is, of course, exactly like feminists who blame all men for everything that any man ever did wrong. Furthermore, you ignore those conservative Jews who abhor the subverive anti-American tendency of such left-wing Jews. You should read Drawing Life: Surviving the Unabomber by David Gelernter, who frankly acknowledges the problems of how Jews were involved in what might be called the intellectual antinomianism of the postwar era. Alienated from the American mainstream, there was a sort of sour-grapes rationalization in the way a secularized Jewish intelligentsia justifed their cultural war against our nation’s traditions. Yet it is wrong to scapegoat an entire religious/ethnic group for the errors of a discret intellectual subculture.

Alas, it seems once a man catches the virus of Jew-hating, there is no cure this side of the grave, and I point out your error not with any expectation that you will be dissuaded from your fixation, but rather merely to explain that I am no fool and to warn others against your folly.

So, Wombat-socho, was the cleaning the reason the site was inaccessible all morning… or was it b/c of over eager filter software by providers?

Just curious, since I couldn’t access TOMcC until I rerouted through a different provider’s site… Perhaps I “got a roundtoit” at about the same time the site came back, but I got an “error 0”, which I never encountered before.

Many are accused of being philosemitic who aren’t. My position on Israel came as a result of Bible study. I am quite willing to criticize Israel, and for that other regard me as anti-Semitic for that. Individual Jews are not immune and some, such as Chucky Shumer, are routinely dissed here. OTOH, just because Chucky Shumer is a leftist jackass doesn’t mean all of them are. jews are no different than any other population of people. Some are good, some bad. YMMV.
The Indiana Jones shtick is really, really lame, however.

I guess I’m a little too quick to believe that it might be censorship, but I’ve learned it from experience: there was a week-long period shortly after a splc “hate group” list was released when a provider did block most “rightwing” sites.

  46. Finrod Felagund
    July 29th, 2015 @ 1:54 pm

There are some elements of the list that are deceptive at best.

    1. You care more about Israel’s borders than America’s

The United States hasn’t had a border war since before the Civil War. Israel has to deal with rockets being fired over its borders that kill its citizens. This is just codebait for anti-Semites.

    2. You think that opposing free trade is Nazism

Godwin’s Law fail. Free trade helps everyone. Protectionism is doomed to failure and stagnation.

    3. You believe that the Democrats are the “real” racists

There is more racism every day on Team Blue than there is in a week on Team Red. The Stormfront types, the type this list is designed to appeal to, are by far the biggest and pretty much only racists that are right of center.

    4. You think the reason Detroit and other major U.S. cities are falling apart is because of unions

Major US cities are falling apart because of multiple decades of Democrat governance, of which unions are a significant part.

    5. You believe that Hispanics are “natural Republicans”

Hispanics are not naturally inclined to support either party.

    6. You support corporations, despite their advocacy for leftist causes

Most corporations are only superficially involved in politics at best. Most people on Team Red don’t like crony capitalism. And in a fight between corporations and unions, corporations are more likely to be right.

    7. You think military veterans automatically deserve respect

Military veterans deserve respect for their service. It doesn’t excuse them from criticism for saying stupid things. See the senior senator from Arizona.

    8. You think the GOP needs to moderate in order to win elections

The only completely truthful entry in the list.

    9. You spend more time attacking fellow conservatives than the left

The people who flock to this kind of list are the ones on the Right that violate this the most. Most of the rest of us remember Ronald Reagan’s 11th Commandment.

    10. You’re always apologizing to your enemies

Hyperbole. Even the most conciliatory Team Red players aren’t “always” apologizing.

So yes, I think the list is bullshit.

  47. McGehee
    July 29th, 2015 @ 2:17 pm

I’ve been called thousands of names by people who wished me ill. Every single one of those names was wittier and easier to say than that “term.”

  48. Quartermaster
    July 29th, 2015 @ 2:36 pm

    Now we can get somewhere.

    1. This is just silly. If you really
don’t know what they are referring to, then you need to give some thought to what you are saying instead of posting a knee jerk reaction. With just a small amount of thought you’d realize they are referring to the fact that they stand with Israel and her protecting her borders and the lack of same when it comes to the immigration
    invasion.

    2. You’ve made much the same mistake here. The term is used hyperbolically and is not a Godwin’s law fail (which doesn’t say what you think it says anyway). No one is accusing
anyone of being a Nazi. He’s simply poking at those that who would over react to those opposing trade deals. Unfortunately, those trade
deals have a very serious impact on national security. I would refer you to what had to be done before desert storm with military electronics. Those trade deals in the face of almost unlimited immigration will death to our economy.

Besides, what they are about is managed trade, not free trade.

    3. Same mistake again. He’s referring to those who are desperately afraid of being called racist when dealing with anything the left happens to be opposing and using the ‘R’ word on those poor cowards. There is no doubt that the Dims are hardcore racists, but that’s not the issue being dealt with.

    4. The explain other libtard run cities like Boston, for example. After you look at that, take a look at where the bets are being placed for the next “Detroit.” You’ll find places like Atlanta and Birmingham. The thing they share in common is who is running things. Yes, they are Dims, but there is also a very strong racial component. That’s one of those poisonous
“racist” facts, but a fact it is.

    5. Once more ignorance on stilts. Latinos are natural socialists. That’s what they’ve lived with, and socialism is still promising the sun, moon and stars. We know the socialists can’t deliver, but that’s irrelevant.

    6. This is massive ignorance.
Corporations support leftwing causes across the board. There are few major corps that do not. One can offer the excuses of tax breaks, and playing both sides of the aisle, but corps rarely donate to true freedom promoting organizations. This is setting aside the fact that Crony Capitalism is leftist in and of itself.

    7. You actually got something right.

    8. Agreed. But idiots like McCain have expended the capital their military service brought them.

    9. Haven’t been paying much attention to so called “moderates” I see. The GOPe are the most common violators
of this. They stab conservatives in the back all the time and attack Conservatives far more than they do the left.

    10. Depends on who you’re calling team red. If you’re including moderates like McConnell, Boehner, McCain,
Graham, and their ilk, I’ll disagree that they are part of team red. The “always” is hyperbolic, just as the use of Nazi was earlier.

Methinks you need to take a bit of time to consider what you are saying before you post.

  49. Quartermaster
    July 29th, 2015 @ 2:38 pm

When something doesn’t apply to me, I just laugh it off. If the morons pretending to be conservative want to sue that term on me I can only say “I don’t care what you call me. Just don’t call me late for chow.” I’m the same way with left wing weenies.

  50. MoeLarryCurly
    July 29th, 2015 @ 2:57 pm

Free trade helps everyone? Then why is it documented to consistently lead to lost jobs, and lower wages? And why did times of more protectionism do the exact opposite? Neo-liberalism is a religion to you, and obviously can’t be wrong, or questioned.

Corporations are only superficially involved in politics? You claim to understand politics and make a laugh out loud statement like that? Every major corporation, left, or right, and industry, whether it’s oil, defense, food, clothing, entertainment is involved in politics on a far more than “superficial level”.
