What I find interesting is that many of the same people who clutch their pearls at the mere suggestion that Islamic terrorism has anything to do with — oh, what’s the word again? — oh right: Islam, seem to have no problem making the case that “Christian terrorism” is like a real thing. Remember how so many liberals loved — loved — Obama’s sophomoric and insidious tirade about not getting on our “high horses” about ISIS’s atrocities in the here and now because medieval Christians did bad things a thousand years ago? They never seem to think that argument through. Leaving out the ass-aching stupidity of the comparison, it actually concedes the very point Obama never wants to concede. By laying the barbaric sins of Christians a thousand years ago at the feet of Christians today, he implicitly tags Muslims with the barbarism committed in their name today.

Modern politics grew more coherent, if not rational, when I realized that discussions like terrorism or the Syrian refugee crisis are all hormone-flinging directed at the flesh. Your Progressive overlords think you’re stupid, and will attempt to herd you with guilt, fear, and bribes to Do What They Say.

Conversely, there is shag-all interest in rational discussion, analysis, and a dispassionate effort at finding an optimal overall solution. “They never seem to think that argument through” because #ShutUp. There is power to be protected here, and allowing any sort of intellectual exchange is a direct threat to that power.

As explained by Thurston the Presidential Lip Fly:

The insipid and insulting ‘Christian terrorist’ argument polls and focus groups well with the insane…I mean the Democrat base. I hear it all the time from those on the left. When you gentle challenge them on it, they either get embarrassed (if they have any honesty left) or get defensive.

I would dispute that the ”Crusaders committed barbaric sins” a thousand years ago. What some call ”war crimes” today, was merely waging war a thousand years ago. Or 75 years ago for that matter.
The astounding hubris of the left today is going to get many ”innocents” killed. Since even they have to be able to see the inevitable consequences of Moslem immigration, one can only assume that the resulting slaughter is an acceptable price to pay for destroying the civilization they loathe. That however is not hubris, they are correct in believing that moslem immigration is or at least could be an effective way to destroy civilization. The astounding hubris is their confidence that they can control the results and arrest the process before their necks come under rusty knives. Their absolute faith in the police state they intend to create in order to control us is the astounding part. They seem totally unaware that all of the current Islamist movements currently thrive and were founded in police states.

Pardon, but I have to disagree that any politics are rational or have their roots in anything other than blatant emotional appeals designed to short-circuit rational thought.

It was pretty much Game of Thrones during the Crusades. Which means individuals acted honorably, dishonorably, cruel and sadistically, cravenly, and with charity (it was a full spectrum of human character and behaviors).

That is certainly true of political discourse, simply because it works better, when the goal is persuasion. That’s not to say that no one is trying to have a rational dialogue and think things through logically; they’re just not going to have much effect, unless they also sell their conclusions with rhetoric.

It’s probably the libertarian in me, I draw a distinction between persuasion and politics.

Politics is ultimately about controlling other people, even using force to do so.

The difference? That some widows and orphans are escaping war vs some terrorists happily abuse equines.

I think we can clearly see here who ought to be investigated by DHS.

Further, the Crusades were a response to the invasion BY muslims of lands occupied by Christians and Jews. In other words, they were defensive acts, not unprovoked attacks on “innocent” muslims.

Just as it is today. We’ve been defending ourselves against these infidels for almost 1500 years. Just because the war proceeds in fits and starts in no reason to back off now when we have the whip hand. Ann Coulter’s advice is still valid.

Politics won’t work without persuasion. Someone has to be persuaded or you won’t have anyone to exert the force.

    Actually that’s my Ideal.

We should skip the politics and the controlling others.

Rottsa ruck. Your ideal is as utopian as true socialism. Fallen man strives to control others because that’s simply fallen human nature.

Except I don’t agree that man is fallen…

Gardens exist so things can grow.

I admit it, it is an Ideal. That must have been why I capitalized the word.

I’ve not given up on humans and I don’t think mankind needs Divine help. I believe that part of humanity’s nature is Divine and we find ways to draw that out. That was the gift we were given, what we do with it is up to us.

Of course, it is an opinion. It’s not like I am demanding that you believe it without question or debate.

  21. Quartermaster
    November 23rd, 2015 @ 8:48 pm

Of course you don’t think man is fallen. I’ve already seen your lack of attachment to observable reality in your posting history here. Why on earth do you think I would expect an answer at variance with your history?

Many have thought as you do, but things like World War 1 and World War 2 disabused them of their idiocy. Outside of God, man is simply a sinful creature. A few may rise and do a few decent things, a very few. But as a whole, man is selfish and duplicitous. No amount of counseling, or good environment will change that fact. You would do better denying gravity.

  22. NeoWayland
    November 24th, 2015 @ 8:18 am

In your case your “observable reality” is hearsay. It’s your interpretation of a book that is not even a primary source.

It may be a good book, it may be a great book, it may be a lousy book, but that’s up to the people who follow it. You can’t use the book to govern people who don’t believe in it.

You have to persuade them. You have to show them that it’s a good idea because it works, not because the book says so.

  23. Quartermaster
    November 25th, 2015 @ 7:24 pm

I’ve intimated in the past, but will make it substantive now, you have little attachment to observable reality. That’s why I don’t take you seriously.

You, as usual, miss the point on the rest.

Just as you have no idea what the word “duplicity” means, you obviously have no idea what the term “hearsay” means. I’ve simply stated my observations. You don’t like. Too bad for you.
