Clan Cameron Triumphs

Posted on | May 11, 2010 | 21 Comments

David Cameron just became Prime Minister of Great Britain, a Tory triumph that we conservatives here on the far side of the pond can cheerfully celebrate. Here’s hoping that the new PM will so scourge Labour — and that the island realm united under his leadership shall so vanquish Britain’s every foe — as to make men recall the famous war oath of Clan Cameron:

Chlanna nan con thigibh a so’s gheibh sibh feoil!

“Sons of the hounds, come here and get flesh!”

The Tories and “Progressive” Liberal Democrats are going to share power. This ought to be interesting.

do you really think Cameron is a conservative? Not in any recognisable way, at least in any way recognisable to Americans, is David Cameron a conservative.

That said, compared to Gordon Brown….

I gotta go with Danby on this. The crapweasel kicked the hell out of the U.S. over Iraq (BEFORE the surge won the damn war, of course). PLUS he is no Thatcher economically (*sigh* who is anymore, though).

That country is circling the drain again, just like in 1978, only this time I don’t think they can save themselves and I personally don’t have the desire to anymore. Sad.

Danby, if by that question you mean to ask whether someone like Sarah Palin would be considered eligible for office in the UK — any office — then no, Cameron is not “conservative” in the American sense. Then again, being PM in the UK means that you actually have to be able to speak extemporaneously (and coherently!) in public for large swathes of time and to answer questions that aren’t pre-screened. I’d surmise that most, if not all, American politicians could not handle this prospect.

It’s like Mark Steyn said the country is socialist and all the politicians do is promise they can run it more efficient than the others. The conservative Danby is alluding to would be one in favor of limited government. Time will tell if Cameron rolls back the nanny state.

I think Paul Ryan or not yet elected Alan West could match wits with you Brits.

Don’t get your hopes up. Cameron is a squish of the first magnitude. If he were an American, he would be praised by Brooks, Frum[p], et. al, as the great GOP Hope.

A RINO is the PM of Fair Albion and she will continue to decline, albeit at a slower pace.

I don’t know anything about Cameron but my 4%-Neanderthal instincts tell me to be cautious about expecting too much.

Then again, that goes for pretty much everybody in politics, and always has.
