What ‘Our Democracy’ Really Means

Hat-tip to Stephen Green at Instapundit on this one. For many years I have said that, if it weren’t for double standards, Democrats would have no standards at all. The only “principle” they have is a lust for power.

The latest headline example:

ActBlue co-founder Matt DeBergalis pleaded the Fifth Amendment during his closed-door deposition before three key House committees, sources familiar with the matter told Fox News Digital.
The Committee on House Administration, House Oversight Committee, and House Judiciary Committee are conducting a joint investigation into ActBlue, a massive fundraising platform for Democrats, over allegations that lax fraud prevention standards may have allowed foreign donations to seep into US campaigns.
DeBergalis’ deposition, which was scheduled for Thursday morning, lasted less than half an hour. . . .
A report released by the committees in April 2025 claimed that “ActBlue executives and staff are aware that both foreign and domestic fraudulent actors are exploiting the platform but do not take the threat seriously.”

As Mike Benz points out, with Democrats, every accusation is a confession — they habitually accuse Republicans of wrongdoing that Democrats themselves are guilty of, in this case, foreign interference in American elections. ActBlue was perfectly OK with their system being used to launder foreign contributions into Democratic campaign coffers, with the big-money foreign donors using the stolen identities of Americans to disguise these illegal contributions.

For more than two years during his first term, Democrats made “Russian collusion” the centerpiece of their efforts to undermine Trump’s presidency, and it has subsequently been demonstrated that this was a hoax — Democrats manufactured phony “evidence” (i.e., the Steele dossier) and then used subversive elements of the national security apparatus (e.g., Brennan, Comey, Clapper, et al.) to give this hoax the semblance of credibility. This stuff was fed to the news media, who hyped it up, and Democratic politicians loudly proclaimed that this foreign interference (which, to repeat, was a hoax of their own making) was “a threat to Our Democracy.” To this day, Democrats refuse to admit what they did, and the fools who believed Democrats don’t want to admit they were deceived. They are invested in the Big Lie, and justify that investment by crude demonization: ORANGE MAN BAD!

Do you see how the Threat to Our Democracy™ rhetoric functions to support an “end justifies the means” excuse for whatever crimes Democrats may commit in their anti-Trump crusades? Convince the public that Trump is literally Hitler, and then they lie, steal and cheat to stop Hitler, because protecting Our Democracy™ matters so much.

All of this, you understand, is because Democrats do not consider any government legitimate unless they are in charge. Democrats are so accustomed to being in charge of everything — in the news media, in schools and colleges, in every major city — that they are shocked and offended whenever a Republican wins an election. Vast parts of America, including the states of Texas and Florida, are viewed by Democrats as anti-democratic fascist regimes simply because those states are run by Republicans. If you live in such a state, and vote Republican, you are considered by Democrats to be subhuman, Lebensunwertes Leben.

It turns out that Our Democracy™ — the rhetorical ideal that Democrats claim to be defending — is not democratic at all, because what Democrats actually want is a one-party totalitarian regime, where they wield all power, never lose an election, and can effectively outlaw opposition.

The worst part of the ActBlue scandal is that Democrats and their media allies keep pretending that it’s not really a scandal. No, according to Democrats, the real scandal is that Republicans hold a House majority, and therefore control the committees that are investigating this criminal enterprise. If Democrats win the midterm elections, those investigations will end, which means they will have gotten away with their crimes.

That is what Our Democracy™ really means — absolute immunity for Democrats, no matter what laws they break to gain power.
