Fitting Military Jeremiad Refreshingly Accurate

Captain Hegseth, via Daley Gator, cuts through the fog of Postmodernism besetting Americans supporting reform:

The good Captain concisely and more clearly states what I tried to communicate in various posts: start with the Constitution and move to the nominee. Do not merely assert, through some Congressional deference, that anyone this particular POTUS wants to put in a job is automagically capable.
The Harvard recruiter issue alone identifies her as not fit, and that is before the partial birth abortion fiasco.
Elena Kagan, while no doubt personable, is to the SCOTUS what BHO is to the Presidency. We need less, not more, of this weirdness.
Here is an idea: let both Stevens and Ginsberg retire, and we’ll just wait until there is renewed confidence in the POTUS to consider going back up to 9 justices.

Filibuster Kagan. While I am aware that in calling for this action I am almost certainly
P*ssing up a rope. That does not mean it’s not the right thing to do or that we should not call for the Republicans to reinsert the spine they demonstrated during healthcare. While the next nominee could be even more radical there is a strong case for the assertion that she is unqualified in addition to being willing to manipulate the truth to support her politics. There is a difference between having a distinguished non-judicial legal career and being a political hack with a law degree. Approximately twice as many Americans define themselves as conservatives than those who define themselves as Republicans. This is because the Republican Party has failed to earn the trust and support of many conservatives. This conservative is not impressed with the Re publican’s ability to remain civil in spite of the previous and current despicable actions of the Democrats. If we are merely better than they are as opposed to better AT IT than they are we are doomed. What happened to the fire we had leading up to our defeat fighting health care. If that defeat can’t inspire the political blood-lust needed to constantly bludgeon the Bolsheviks how can we maintain the vigilance needed to save this country. If the Republicans retake the House in November do we go back to sleep or get lost in celebrating while the Social Democrats engage in a 24/7 lame duck coup? The Republicans need to filibuster Kagan if only because they need the practice they need to understand that the other side of the isle is not the esteemed opposition but the enemy within.

Sometimes you get to choose the hill you die on.

First of all, in Kagan’s case we just do not have the votes for a filibuster. Scott Brown and the Maine Gals at least will vote for her. There is no way to get to 40 votes.

So, then, what is the point of filibustering when you know it cannot succeed? Just to allow the media and Democrats to label us as obstructionists and haters, and mock our inability to count to 40?

Kagan is a terrible nominee and will be a terrible Justice. This is why elections matter. If you want someone to blame, find the conservatives who stayed home in 2006 and 2008 and beat them with a stick.

The conservatives who stayed home in 06 & 08 are not the villains the candidates they had to choose from are. At this rate I’ll wind up having to reconsider the Libertarians.
