While there are conflicting reports, officials have told several news organizations that the Alaska Republican and several other people were killed in the crash of a small plane. Wolf Blitzer provides the CNN obituary:

    A noble man with some questionable politics. Regardless, he played a major part in bringing Alaska roaring into the 21st century, from being a wasteland.

    I’m sorry but before 2008 very few folks on this site had ever heard of Stevens … he was hardly a poster boy for corruption … too much pork, for sure but he doesn’t even rank in the top 10 for corruption …
