Another fine roundup, Wombat!  Nice to see Maggie’s post about my blogiversary made the cut! Do I still have that ‘new blogger smell’ now that the Zilla blog is a year and a day old? 😉

Scary Perry: US GOP/Baggers swallow VooDoo ‘religion’ . Yes, this is the latest ‘twist’ on right-wing-nut Xtianity… and it is a deep topic. I suggest this as reading for anyone who wants to know when to duck:

    http://english.aljazeera.net/indepth/opinion/2011/07/20117259426336524.html

It is SO BAD… and it is being accepted uncritically by the brain-dead GOP.

Cloudstack: about ‘Cloud’, This is quite techy and I post it here because I think it is really great.

You can read an informative summary via our good friends at TheReg:

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/08/29/citrix_cloud_com_update/

I have learned more about ‘the cloud’ by reading at Cloudstack than from any other source.

Of note; the term ‘the cloud’ is not only not new, it was coined during the development of the internet, then known as ARPANET.

The cloud… is where your sent packets (email, etc) go… when you send them. They bounce around from server to server based on the address embedded in the head of the packet. They are ‘routed’ to the intended destination… thus the term ‘router’.

The cloud is imaginary, of course. It is simply a mnemonic or paradigm which represents a strictly controlled, dynamic electronic environment, which has been made to insure complete and accurate transmittal and reception (with verification/acknowledgement or ‘ack’) of any sort of packet-ized information.

The humble ‘packet’ is also referred to as a ‘frame’, thus the term ‘frame relay’, which is in other words, a router. Fortunes are made, depending upon the closeness of the equipment to the ‘backbone’ of the internet. A few companies own all such access, which they sell downline to other providers such as your own ISP. ‘Every ISP, has an ISP’.

Amazon (of Seattle) is a pioneer in ‘cloud computing’, daily reselling ‘bandwidth’ to many, many service providers who need those services, which may include ‘applications’ which run on Amazon servers, and which materially aid the speed and uptime of ecommerce.
