Debbie Wasserman-Schultz: ‘You Know Who Likes Killing Babies? Jews Do!’

Posted on | July 16, 2012 | 16 Comments

The headline is not a direct quote, but this is:

“[T]he president has an incredible record of support and advocacy on the issues, domestically, that Jews care about — fighting, for example, to make sure that women have the right to make their own reproductive choices . . .”

OK, so why does the Democratic National Committee chairwoman insist that “reproductive choice” is such an important issue that “Jews care about,” in a way that gentiles do not?

Are there no pro-life Jews? Is there some specific ethnic, religious, or cultural reason why Jews are devoted to keeping abortion legal?

Perhaps someone could ask her a few questions like this, because otherwise people would be compelled to guess that what Debbie Wasserman-Schultz actually meant to say is (a) most Jews vote Democrat, and (b) Democrats are the Party of Abortion.

Any other interpretation could be anti-Semitic, causing people to think that this bloody horror was inflicted upon our nation specifically by Jews.

Not me, of course. I blame the Episcopalians.

UPDATE: I was concerned this post might push the “deliberately provocative headline” thing a bit too far, but I’m reassured by Yuval Levin’s horror at DWS’s claim that abortion is a Jewish value:

Politicians used to insult Jewish voters by implying that all they cared about was Israel. Surely this is much worse.

Meanwhile, in the comments below, an observant Jewish reader points out that, quite logically, the pro-abortion enthusiasm of liberal Jews has had the effect of making conservative Jews the fastest-growing segment of the Jewish population. The same is true among Protestants, I would add. The future belongs to the fertile.

    LOL, as a Jew, I find DWS, bless her heart, (that’s Southern for she’s an idiot) someone who doesn’t think about what she says before she says it.  Keep in mind that observant (orthodox, hasidic & [very] conservative) Jews now outnumber Liberal Jews on the order of 5-4…that number will rise as observant Jews on average have 3+ childrend, while Liberals have 2 or less…

    But any way, DWS  is an idiot, she just can’t help herself for the moronic things she says.

    It’s actually a fact that Episcopalians were deeply implicated in the rise of what I have called the Contraceptive Culture.

    The Rockefellers? Episcopalians!

    The National Council of Churches? An Episcopalian conspiracy!

     Really.  A video like this should come with a warning:  “This video may cause your IQ to drop, or your blood pressure to rise.  You may experience an uncontrollable urge to shoot your screen.  If you experience any of these symptoms, press the ‘Stop’ button immediately, and walk away from the computer.”

     We really need to distinguish between those of the Jewish faith and what Evan Sayet calls “the Plopping Jews” (whose only claim to the name is having plopped out of a Jewish womb). All the observant Jews I know are conservative/libertarian.  Only the Plopping Jews skew leftist.

    Dr. Walter Rauschenbusch must have been an Episcopalian, then. One of his statements;

    ” The only power that can make Socialism succeed, if it is established, is religion. It cannot work in an irreligious society.” 1893 or there abouts.

    A statement by Dr. A. W. Beaven, former President of the Federal Council of Churches of Christ in 1937;

    ” It is clear, it seems to me, the single greatest influence on the life and thought of the American Church in the last 50 years was exerted by Walter Rauschenbusch.”

    Abortion wasn’t even on the radar back then, but one can see how the concept was able to take hold eventually.

    To be blamed are the Congregationalists and Presbyterians. Duh.

    (Although I’ll grant that Episcopalians – and Lutherans – can’t be absolved of their hand in it all.)

    I’m wondering if Team Nutcase, er, Obama, is going to make abortion an actual issue in the election. You have the above nutjobbery, and one of Obama’s campaign commercials even mentions that Mitt Romney is actually against abortion. Uses the word. Apparently, they think that is all women care about.

     If they do, it’ll be a blunder comparable to fighting a land war in Asia. Romney will be able to pull a twofer: look like a fiscal hawk for advocating a return to the ban on Federal funding for abortions,  while shoring up his cred with the social cons at the same time.
