McGovern was a great man, a war hero as a pilot, although thoroughly delusional in his politics. He recognized this in part in his retirement when he found the regulations on his small business venture of an inn/restaurant onerous, and admitted that any member of Congress should first experience what the businessman does before permitting the regulatory morass.

He was also no more qualified to be President that any other career legislator.

The fact that he was the chairman of the commission which reformed Democratic Party rules and nomination processes after the disastrous 1968 convention enabled him to win the 1972 nomination. He worked the primaries and caucuses in traditionally Republican states, which his opponents ignored as hopeless, accumulating in the process so many delegates that he entered the convention with a functional, if not actual, majority.

Note that Obama followed the same path, as Hillary Clinton neglected building any organizations in “red states” because she was already thinking only of the general election. Obama swept most of those contests, which gave him the nomination.

McGovern is proof that what it takes to be a hero in war is not what it takes to be level-headed in thought.

    He was a grinning Dupe.

He was a great man to the moonbat left, which he was responsible for empowering. To the sane, he was just a grinning dupe who was used by the Communists to defeat us in Vietnam, and anywhere else we fought to advance or protect the interests of the United States. He betrayed everything he fought for in WW2.

The story Breitbart covered about the UN warning the US not to elect Mitt Romney is an outrage. It should be the top story on every newscast and every paper. Did you know there will be UN observers at some polling places? Romney should station a couple predator drones hovering just outside the UN headquarters building in plain site after he’s elected. It’s important that we gather intel on all foreign threats.

McGovern had a great piece in the WSJ a few years back describing his attempt at running a business, a restaurant. After dealing with a myriad of regulations, he determined that most politicians should be required to run a business before going into politics.
