Bill Schmalfeldt Hates Zoa Barnes

Attorney Zoa Barnes is representing John Hoge in his peace order case against deranged cyberstalker Bill Schmalfeldt and, predictably, Schmalfeldt’s reaction to this is to demonize Zoa Barnes for merely doing what attorneys do, i.e., represent clients.

If you ever visit Bill Schmalfeldt’s site — which I certainly do not recommend — you will find that it features a very prominent copyright notice. Simple question: Did Bill Schmalfeldt bother to ask Zoa Barnes for permission to use her photo on his site?

If not, under what grounds does he claim the right to use that photo? And if he can explain why it is OK for him to use a photo of Zoa Barnes, why has Bill Schmalfeldt repeatedly claimed that it is a violation of his copyright for other people to use photos of him?

Not sure how Bill Schmalfeldt will explain the apparent contradiction between his own actions and the accusations he has made against others. Maybe his answer would be, “Because I said so.”

  3. Schmalfeldt is too stupid to even be a hypocrite. Its hilarious that he does not realize that his description better matches his own incoherent filing than Barnes’.

  4. Zoa Barnes has represented our family in various matters over the last fifteen years or so. She’s a smart, skilled, and effective advocate. I’m fortunate to have her as my lawyer in the Schmalfeldt matter.

  6. It’s actually quite hard to differentiate between what he doesn’t understand, what he is railing against tactically, and what he is reflexively bitching about because that’s how his Lego’s are arranged.

  11. Eventually Bill is going to turn his hatred on his ideological allies. Once again, I’m reminded of that blonde blogger in Detroit that we don’t talk about. This kind of hate can’t be constrained, and at some point some people are going to wish they hadn’t awakened this stupid whale.

  13. The smartest thing now is to do exactly what RSM, Stranahan and the others are doing: document every move he makes, keep the contemporaneous record straight and watch your backs. He’s is dangerous; this kind of behavior always escalates.

  18. Schmalfeldt is a high school graduate. Nevertheless, he knows more about everything, including law, than a lawyer who attended college, law school, and has been practicing for over 20 years.

    That’s a strange analogy, but in some ways apt.

In Maryland “ignorance of the law is no excuse” but it is apparently a pretty solid qualification for both a judgeship and persuading said judges to rules against both the facts admitted into testimony and the written law. Don’t underestimate the risks Stacy and the other defendants are running.

    Wonder if Stacy and the others are considering filing suit against the county (ies) where BK, BS et al are pursing these half-assed SLAPPs against them (Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation).

  23. I’m no brain scientist, nor did I sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but I’m not even understanding lard lad’s post there. Isn’t a writ of certiorari where one “court” is asking another “court” for records? What would Ms. Barnes have to do with that?
