‘Seize This Opportunity to Cripple the Tea Party’s Political Power for Good’

One of the things you learn is that if you ever sign up online for any liberal or Democrat operation — even as a reporter trying to get campaign information — your e-mail address will be sold and resold until eventually you’re on every liberal mailing list.

Which I don’t mind, actually, because it gives you a glimpse into what kind of messages are turning up in Democrat inboxes. Eight days before the gubernatorial election in Virginia, this is what was sent out by Democracy for America this morning:

Robert —
“Beat the snot out of them.” — former Rep. Steve LaTourette, R-OH
“If they refuse to fight for us, we must fight them.” — Erick Erickson, RedState
Those aren’t Republicans talking about what they are going to do to Democrats next year. Those are Republicans talking about what they want to do to each other — just as the GOP’s approval ratings implode in the aftermath of the government shutdown.
I assume you’ve heard the phrase, “strike while the iron is hot.” Well, if you want to hold the Tea Party accountable, irons don’t come much hotter than the upcoming election in the purple state of Virginia — in just one week. With voters livid about the government shutdown and Republicans embroiled in a civil war, progressives are in prime position to shock the political world in Virginia, setting the stage for Democrats taking back the House in 2014.
Do you want to seize this opportunity to cripple the Tea Party’s political power for good? Then join fellow DFA members to Call Out the Vote in Virginia.

Yes, I can volunteer to make calls from home into Virginia on Wednesday.
No, I can’t make calls but I can chip in $5 to support DFA’s Call Out The Vote program in Virginia — and in states all over the country in 2014.

DFA went into Virginia early, endorsing and supporting bold Democratic candidates across the state. The polls are extremely tight, and our Purple to Blue endorsed candidates have never been in a stronger position to win.
Our volunteers know that the frustration and fatigue with obstructionist Tea Party tactics is real. Not only is it reflected in the polls — it is reflected in the daily conversations DFA members are having with voters in Virginia. In recent Call Out The Vote phone banks to Virginia, I’ve spoken with several Democrats and independents who can’t wait to run out and cast a ballot for our endorsed candidates on November 5. And I’ve even spoken to Republicans for whom the government shutdown was the last straw.
This isn’t just about one state or one election. This is about seizing an opportunity to change the congressional campaign landscape for 2014. Can you volunteer to help Call Out the Vote in Virginia this week?
Yes, I can volunteer to make calls from home into Virginia on Wednesday.
No, I can’t make calls but I can chip in $5 to support DFA’s Call Out The Vote program in Virginia — and in states all over the country in 2014.
Thank you for helping us win,

Karli

What this tells me is that “Tea Party” is a bogeyman phrase for liberals, the way “Halliburton” and “Religious Right” used to be.

As for Virginia, as incredible as it seems to say, the Old Dominion may actually be about to elect Terry McAuliffe governor.

The Real Clear Politics poll average has McAuliffe leading Republican Ken Cuccinelli by nearly 10 points, and by 8 points (50-42) in the latest Quinnipiac survey. Why? It’s not Cuccinelli’s fault — he’s a good candidate who has run a good campaign. The problem is that Republicans seem so demoralized and apathetic after their defeat in 2012 that they couldn’t raise enough money to enable Cuccinelli to compete effectively with McAuliffe’s money machine.

Also, since 2010, the GOP has gradually backslid into a cautious, timid and unprincipled “Me Too” posture. If you’re for gay marriage and amnesty for illegal immigrants, you can vote Democrat, but if you’re against gay marriage and amnesty, Republicans won’t dare appeal for your vote by speaking out on these issues, because their consultants tell them your opinions are marginal and disreputable.

You can’t win if you’re afraid to fight. Nobody admires cowardice, and the GOP nowadays marches under the white flag of surrender.

The problem with the GOPe is they do not want to embrace the Tea Party because they have become democrat lite. That is why it is imperative for the Tea Party to wrest the majority in the Senate and also elect Tea Party endorsed candidates in the House.

A dozen years ago, Andrew Sullivan of all people did some reporting from a television green room or somewhere proximate thereto. The occasion was one of the Presidential debates, IIRC. His description of Terry McAuliffe, present that night: that as he moved from one place to another, he left a trail of green slime.

This man is a carpetbagger (from Upstate New York) who has an antique reputation for shady business dealings greased by political connections. It is just one step up from the Republicans running Jack Abramoff. That he is competitive at all is depressing.

One wonders whether all the Virginians who are getting their “if you like it, you can keep it” health insurance policies only to be told their O-Care policies are doubling in cost will have something to say about that.

I have it on reliable authority the McAuliffe campaign is pulling out the stops in its Northern Virginia advertising. They run ads with actors made to look like suburban women telling the viewer that Ken Cuccinelli will take away their contraceptives and their freedom to get out of a ‘bad marriage’. Evidently, someone thinks you can mobilize people on ‘culture war’ issues.

Just remember, if the anointed want it, it is ‘a matter of principle’. If ordinary people want it, it is ‘an emotional issue’.

What’s with the reference to La Tourette? He is out of Congress. Did he not reveal in front of a hot mike that he despised the main body of the Republican Party? What could he be up to that anyone but Harry Reid’s PAC would want to invest in?

The TEA Party is the political movement of an America 3.0. The Republican and Democrats and their industrial-age malthusian political philosophy dominated in post-Civil War America 2.0.
Folks are claiming the TEA Party are throwbacks to the past – they are instead the future. McCain, McConnell and Reid are the modern analog of dinosaurs watching a meteor shower.

My friends in Virginia say McAuliffe has engaged in a relentlessly negative campaign, often using outright false charges, and hasn’t shown anything in an ad, debate, speech, or policy paper about what he might specifically do as Governor (other than steal whatever he can and leave the taxpayers holding the bill when he leaves, as he always does, of course). But the pro-abortion and pro-weed factions are also boosting the LP candidate, and it is not clear that they will come home to Cooch at the end.

If Virginia is dumb enought to elect the crook McAuliffe, it can’t be blamed on the lack of GOP unity. The man is toxic. Only suckers would vote for him.

McAuliffe’s big lead is of course among women, proving once again the folly of the 19th Amendment.

    McAuliffe is no Abramoff.

Abramoff worked for his clients and delivered value to them, he just did it illegally. McAuliffe has rarely delivered any value to anyone besides himself. Most often everyone else takes a loss as Terry absconds with sacks of cash.

Just ask the former stockholders and employees of WorldCom.

Good post from DrewM over at Ace of Spades today on that very subject: http://minx.cc/?post=344561

One of the Morons also noted in the comments the same thing:

The GOP Establishment has succumbed to that most seductive sin: power. It’s been clear for some time now that they have no interest in reducing the size, scope and cost of Fedzilla, they just want to run it.

This is why they’re fighting the Tea Party so hard: a grassroots movement which isn’t taking either side’s BS. “Hey, we’re still all for a ridiculously bloated government, but we can run it better!” Wrong answer, jackasses.
