Shocking Video: ‘Coven’ of Pro-Abortion Women Attack Church in Argentina

You may have seen this video earlier — Ed Morrissey featured it at Hot Air — but I didn’t see it until it was tweeted to me by Covenant College student Keifer Wynn and, because it was in Spanish, at first I wasn’t quite sure what I was looking at.

“Abortistas atacan a católicos que defendían la Catedral de San Juan,” is the headline, and the description: “Estas son las hordas de lesbianas y abortistas del Encuentro Nacional de Mujeres.”

So, translation via Google: “Abortionists attack  Catholics defending the Cathedral of San Juan. These are the hordes of lesbians and abortionists of the National Conference of Women.” Keep in mind that when I watched this, I hadn’t even translated the titles yet:

OK, so what the heck is going on there?

Every year in Argentina, the National Conference of Women — sponsored by various non-profit NGOs — gathers in some city and, in recent years, the event has featured a protest against the Catholic Church. So when the radical feminists marched on the cathedral in San Juan de Cuyo on November 24, they were met by 1,500 Catholics who locked arms to form a human shield around the cathedral:

The women, many of them topless, spray-painted the men’s crotches and faces and swastikas on their chests and foreheads, using markers to paint their faces with Hitler-like mustaches. They also performed obscene sexual acts in front of them and pushed their breasts onto their faces, all the while shouting “get your rosaries out of our ovaries.” . . .
While the site of the protest was the front of the cathedral . . . “the whole city awoke to graffiti in favor of abortion.”
Inside the cathedral, 700 people were also in prayer accompanied by their bishop . . .
After unsuccessfully trying to get into the building, the women burned a human-sized effigy of Pope Francis. “If the pope were a woman, abortion would be legal,” they shouted . . .
The police reportedly told the media they were unable to intervene because “they are women.”

Remember, I originally saw this in Spanish, posted by the blogger at Pagina Catolica, who said (Google translation):

Our readers know that the Spanish and American folk tradition, the Coven or Salamanca (in Argentina), is a meeting of witches, in which to realize the devil is present not only acts of sorcery, but also aberrant sexual practices.

Indeed, the raving frenzy of these radical feminists bespeaks an infernal origin. Susan Brinkmann at Women of Grace writes:

According to a report appearing on the Catholicism Pure and Simple blog, some of the youth who defended the cathedral said they had the impression that “it was a ‘satanic attack’ with ‘demonic figures’ being seen as part of an ‘anti-Christian world revolution.’  In one place the extremists lit a big fire and burned an effigy of Pope Francis as they danced around the fire.”

An “anti-Christian world revolution“?

Putas sucios comunistas! (That’s “dirty communist whores” in Spanish, at least according to the Google translation.)

UPDATE: Amazing the things you can learn on Twitter:

  1. Dear Lord, I believe that I have seen Sodom. What has seized their minds to make them think that they can mistreat other people with such unbridled contempt? that they can treat themselves with so little shame?
    BTW, FWIW, when they were dancing around the burning effigy, they were moving counter-clockwise, also called ‘widddershins’, which some associate with Satanic rituals.

  2. It’s raw totalitarian hate. I keep saying there’s no such thing as “moderate” feminism.

    A lot of college-educate women seem to think, “Well, I’m for fairness and against harassment, so I’m a feminist” — except that actual feminism is something far more radical than that and, while feminists are always willing to take credit for anything good that happens to women, feminism is a revolutionary ideology that is a lot more than “Be Nice to Women.”

  3. That is raw totalitarian hate, but not in the service of women, but serving Satan. Only highly educated Westerners can believe this attack was made to advance women.

  4. I noticed how similar the cadence of the chanting resembled the Kerry-HanoiJane era “Ho ho Ho Chi Minh, the NLF is going to win” chanting.

  5. I’m not going to get into the conspiracy theories here.

    It seems to me that you’re missing the story. It’s not that someone crossed the line and attacked a church.

    It’s that all those people defended the church. It’s a story about faith.

    The rest isn’t really important.

  6. Katie Pavlich tweeted this story a few days ago, with the comment that the same people who complain about the rape culture and sexual harassment all the time, feel free to sexually molest men.

    A priest blogger has a blog called Father Z’s blog at wdtprs.com/blog, and he asks readers from time to time if there are contingency plans at their church to defend against leftist attacks and protests.

    It would be interesting to get your Argentinean family member’s take on this – are things worse since he left Argentina?

  7. This reminds me of something my wife once told me. “When I was in college, I thought I was a feminist. Then I started reading about the things feminists actually do and believe, and realized I’m not a feminist at all.”

  8. Well it is both, but I absolutely agree with you that the more important part of this story is how people of faith stood up peacefully and resisted.

    Say, doesn’t the left celebrate people who peacefully stand their ground as secular saints?

  9. Ever notice how so many allegedly “enlightened” atheists and pagans are growing more irrational and venomous as time goes on? This is why:

    “…those who are on the way to perdition because they did not welcome into their hearts the love of the Truth, so that they might be saved. And for this reason GOD WILL CAUSE THEM TO BE GREATLY DECEIVED that they may believe the lie, in order that all may come under judgement who have refused to believe the truth and have taken pleasure in iniquity.”

    * * *

    “Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, SO GOD GAVE THEM UP TO A DEPRAVED MIND, so that they do what ought not to be done.”

    * * *

    “They will turn their ears away from the truth AND BE TURNED TOWARD LIES [myths, fables, fictions].”

    * * *

    End result:

    “…the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from Heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance ON THEM THAT KNOW NOT GOD AND THAT OBEYED NOT the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, [those] who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord…”

  10. I read the post at Pagina Catolica, and the author asks a good question: is this the best or the only way for men to defend the Church and themselves? Are they only allowed to resort to prayer in the face of physical assaults, when the right to self defense is natural law and the Catholic Church both recognize the right to self defense?

  11. Yes. I was just reading this in John 1:
    “5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”

  12. While the use of spray paint and magic markers clearly fall under the legal definition of assault, I’m not sure responding to it any more aggressively then the defenders did would have served any purpose but to make some of us onlookers feel better — and to escalate the situation and get even more good people hurt.

    The business about turning the other cheek is a nice moral instruction, but sometimes it’s also the best strategy.
