Repealing ObamaCare Is Scary To Gutless Progressives Fearing Reform

by Smitty

What is different about Republican calls for repeal today — as opposed to calls for repeal from 2010 to the end of 2013 — is that Obamacare is now in place. It exists. Exchanges are running — many of them badly, but running. subsidies are being paid. Insurance companies have changed the way they do business. Medicaid has been expanded. Special taxes are being collected.

Even though the system is new, millions of Americans have gone to a lot of trouble to adjust to it, and it would be disruptive to them to just stop cold. Halt subsidies? Undo Medicaid expansion? Just as last fall, when millions of Americans received coverage cancellation notices, millions more would face new burdens under the repeal of Obamacare.

Oh, so the camel’s nose is under the tent, the first dope hit was free, and the bint was asking for it?

These problems can melt away with the courage of honesty. Stand there and tell the truth that ObamaCare has been false at every stage of its misbegotten existence, from the prosecutorial lynching of Ted Stevens on. Just list the play-by-play of the shenanigans that occurred. Reiterate the economic damage. Build the case that ObamaCare is the Battle of the Progressive Bulge, and here is where we turn back the (inter)National Socialists.
Via Marshall Locke, we have Arthur Brooks:

I hear Brooks’s point: you have to care about people, both in an immediate sense, and in the long term sense. People, particularly the unreflective, live in the present tense. Pondering life in greater depth is something you do as you grow. However, Progressivism is your eternal bureaucratic diaper. Just vote for more Huggies.

The challenge for the conservatives is to goad the GOP into a national poddy training program, so that future generations can return to wearing big boy pants.

More specifically, the GOP needs to do this by

  • budgeting
  • driving toward a balanced budget
  • cutting the Progressive cord, and letting the states own their own safety net programs, as lean or as lavish as they care to pay for

The real requirement, though, is the leadership. The rejection of Progressive homo beaurocratus as an ideal. We could be deep in the hurt locker here.

  1. Failure was the goal all along!

Many of the Democrats wanted single-payer, but knew that they didn’t have the votes for it. The only option was to cobble something together that could pass, anything at all, and then wait for the failure. Then, having established the principle that the federal government is ultimately responsible for the individual’s health care, when it fails, the Democrats throw up their hands, and say, “Look, we tried it the ‘conservative’ way, using the existing private insurance system, and it didn’t work. The only thing left is single payer.”

The Democrats have successfully changed the argument, and it is now: are we going to cover everyone, regardless of his ability to pay, or are we willing to let some people go without health care, even if that means that they don’t get health care when they need it?

That’s the crux of the matter: not having the government guarantee coverage means that we must be willing to accept that some people could suffer and die without treatment for which they cannot pay. I am willing to do that, and I am honest enough to say that, in public.

  2. The hilarious irony of the pro-life movement: the pre-born are all “angels of God”, the will of the mother must be usurped by a group of “religious men”, and she must be forced to bear this miracle, because of Jesus or something! When you’re post born it’s “fuck you, you’re on your own, and I don’t care if you’ve got a 75 pound tumor sticking out of the side of your face, there’s no way tax payer funds are going to help your worthless ass!” Conservatives really are despicable people, and whether or not you win the senate, the house, or the White House, you’re still going to lose the war. And make no mistake about it, it’s a war.

  3. We need accountability. People need to understand that the handouts are coming at the expense of our military and that may embolden aggressor nations. I’m afraid that our lack of presence in the Pacific is creating the need for a military alliance among the smaller nations. Getting the economy back on track would help in every aspect.

  4. NO SPIN ZONE!!!!!!

The republican establishment have No Desire Whatsoever to repeal obamacare. They are statists and they will never, ever propose anything but to “fix” it.

    Let’s stop pretending.

  5. we never thought it was anything but a war.
    good vs evil
    Godly vs ungodly
    baby killers vs defenders

    satisfied that we understand?

  6. ConJob and mr perceptive both bring up the point how we tend to “demonize” those who are not in agreement with us. What we tend to care about first and foremost is protecting all that we have from the threat of some ‘evil other’ taking it all away from us. As long as this thought is promulgated, this will be instilled in the minds of those taking up the swords, so to speak, in war.

And that when we attack/act on our beliefs we are seeking to be rid of what threatens life as as we know it (life we consider ‘good’.) Thus the enemy is given by default the designation of the one who is ‘bad’ somehow…IOW, ‘evil’.

On the other hand, I guess it’s possible for someone (or some way of life) to be self-identified as ‘bad’ and set out to kill the ‘good’ in the world, but you don’t tend to hear many stories about that. 😉

People generally self-identify as the ‘good’, or the righteous, or most best civilized, or most loving, or best informed, etc.

  7. There are things that actually are malum in se and opposing them actually does place you on the side of angels. Things like abortion and government theft, which is what government “health care” is actually about, are two such things.
It is a war and mr perceptive pretty much gets down to the heart of the issue. People like con job and GVK are evil people that put a face to the regressive morons that would drag us back under tyrants in the name of kindness. Useful idiot is another term that has been used quite a bit in the last 100 years to describe such people.

  8. Yeah, forced birth’s, and leaving men, and women to suffer and die without medical treatment for no other reason than their economic status is “godly”. LOL! No wonder most Americans have abandoned idiotic, primitive, religious thinking, left over from the stone age.

  9. Yeah, nothing tyrannical about forcing a woman to have a baby against her will, and under threat of imprisonment! LOL! Especially if she was just raped, Mr. Akin! Or leaving a person to die without regular treatment because of taxes that need to go to helping extend American Empire. Hard to believe someone could actually be as dumb as you are. Doesn’t matter. The younger generation has pretty much all but abandoned socially conservative thinking, and in another generation or so, it’s bye-bye for you.

  10. What if rent, food, transportation, utilities, etc. get in the way? Too fucking bad, I guess? You’re a total cunt.

  11. “forced births”.

Yep, he forced her legs open. ALL UNWANTED PREGNANCIES ARE RAPE!!! Right?

    You freaking idiot…

  12. Well, better to rant in ignorant darkness that to turn on the light, or something.

The fact is that now that ObamaCare is being implemented, there are millions of people who now have lost their previous coverage and can no longer get it extended, and many among them are paying highly inflated prices. Others are getting replacement plans based solely on the promise of tax subsidies. Still more are now on Medicaid.

Just repealing ObamaCare does NOT put the world back where it was in 2010 before it passed. Obama has destroyed or irrevocably changed the previous health insurance system, and he isn’t done yet.

But it is difficult to explain such things to those who do not wish to understand.

  13. When you see a statement such as “leaving a person to die without regular treatment because of taxes that need to go to helping extend American Empire,” you know that you are reading the words of someone not of strong intellectual prowess.

  14. Well, somehow I work and have to pay a mortgage, food transportation, utilities, etc, and am still pay for my health insurance. Why ought I to have to work harder, or live my life more poorly, because someone else won’t work?

  15. That’s a nice appeal to squishiness there, Governor Romney.

What some people “do not wish to understand” is that the Bush/Obama economic damage is going to require many broken things in order to be able to repair it. It’g going to suck. Get ready for it.

Trying to play super surgeon and repair them without pain will insure ZERO repair takes place. (See for example the 1986 Immigration Act.)

When we kill the EPA, similar disasters will ensue. Real estate companies will go out of business overnight. Nearly a third of Northern Virginia’s massive increase in population will suddenly be jobless. Three counties will go into a miserable economic depression. Cleanup sites will halt in mid “cleanup”. Dump sites will go unmonitored.

When we Kill the Education department, tens of thousands of people will lose jobs overnight. Huge office buildings will go vacant. School administrators who owe their positions to the fact that someone has to deal with the Dept. of Ed 24/7 will join rubber room teachers who do nothing all day. Another third of Northern Virginia’s population will be unemployed.

When we get rid of the IRS, we will kill one of the biggest “industries” in our economy. The job losses will be staggering. Advertising agencies, Accounting firms, Law firms, Broadcasters, the remaining third of the the population in Northern Virginia. It will be a huge problem.

As bad as all of that will be, it’s still a huge improvement over civil war.

You don’t get rid of stage four, fully metastasizing cancer by hoping a ten-year, rice and tea regimen will slowly remove it.

No offense to tea and rice regimens.

  16. It’s pretty obvious how you stand on these issues, so let a non-conservative and non-Christian ask you a simple question.

Do you think that government and society should shield a woman from her bad choices?

Even if it means a life of perpetual dependence?

  17. That is why it is imperative to vote Tea Party this year so that we could get a majority in both Houses. Then Obama will become the lamest of all because we could override whatever laws he vetoes.

  18. So you would rather have the status quo of “I”ll scratch your back of you scratch mine?”

  19. The 1st order of business is to repeal Obamacare. Then we could go back to the old system (w/c, for all its warts, actually works) and thus just tweak it. If it works, do not replace it. Just tweak it, but do not replace it.

  20. The Tea Party is not for no government, it is for less government. What you just stated are libertarian viewpoints w/c are not Tea Party viewpoints.

  21. You will find that I am not saddened in the slightest that a reduction in the size of government would lead to unemployment amongst bureaucrats. They are unproductive dead weight on our productivity.

  22. At least the Dems have cobbled something together. The Repubs can do nothing but want to repeal it. If it was their idea then we would not have had 51 votes to repeal it, the Dems would have worked with it. That the difference between Repubs and Dems. Repubs do not respect the American People, the Dems at least try to help the American People. I would be ashamed to call myself a Republican at this period of time. So Dana, you are saying that if you could not afford to pay for treatment if something happened to you, then you are willing to suffer and die. People who make statements like that have no respect for human rights. So if you are born rich and can afford to pay for treatment then you can live ,but if you were born poor and cannot afford treatment then you must die.do you understand how stupid that sounds. Let’s hope you stay healthy, because we would not like to see you have to suffer and die.

  23. Just a thought, maybe we should have a rapist sexual parts removed so that he cannot do it again.

  24. Hopefully you have a job. A lot of people do not, and it is not because they are lazy, it because the Republicans will not vote on a jobs package.

  25. Great, you do have a J O B. I had a job until I was 57 year old ,then my employer laid me off, not because I was not doing my job ,it was because he could bring in a” trained ape” and pay him a lot less then he was paying me. I called it age Discrimination they called it economic downturn. They hired that younger person 2 week later . Do you know how hard it is to prove age Discrimination. So lets hope you never get old or get laid off or god forbid you get FIRED.

  26. Even if Repubs get both House they will not have enough votes to override an Oboma veto. Get over it ,the only way to repeal the ACA is for the Repubs to win the Presidency in 2016. But by then the ACA will have been in place so long and will have helped millions of people to get affordable health care that it will be impossible to repeal. So live with it.The ACA ishere to stay.

  27. If you vote Tea Party then you are UNAMERICAN. What have the tea party done for you lately except to lie to the American People.

  28. That is an outright LIE. It has helped millions of American’s to get affordable health care. Keep on listening to the lies the right keep saying. The reason people are losing their policies are because they are JUNK policies that do not meet the standards of the ACA. Would you rather have a policy that upgrades your benefit’s or keep what you have and pay about the same for a policy that does have better benefits.

  29. OK , so lets just tweak the old system. Give us your outline for tweaking the old system. The old system did not work. Republican have been saying for years that they will come up with a Comprehensive Health Care Plan, we have been waiting and waiting and we got tired of waiting for the Repubs to come up a plan, so Obama’s Administration came up with the ACA. We are sill waiting for Repubs to reveal their Health Care Package . MAYBE that is because they never had one and probably never will have one.

  30. Hah! I totally missed that your last name was O’Brien. Geez, what a putz I am.

I saw “poddy” and immediately thought of Paddy O’brien (and Paddy Moloney of the Chieftans, but I couldn’t spell Moloney without looking it up). Those are the most famous musicians named “Paddy” that I know of. I could have looked up some names from sports or current Irish History, but that would have really been industrious.

I should have used “O’Rourke” or something.

I’ll leave this all here as a warning for others not to be stupid.

  31. Unfortunately the old system is gone. ObamaCare killed it. Many of the existing policies are cancelled, insurers will certainly never offer the least profitable packages again, and many clients will have had changed situations. Also the medical field has changed to adjust to the changed law.
You can’t just snap your fingers and have it all back as it was. The world does not work that way.
