You can despise Greenwald all you like, but I have the puke-coming-out-my-nose feeling he’s spot-on here:
How do you feel about the early presidential jockeying?
Hillary is banal, corrupted, drained of vibrancy and passion. I mean, she’s been around forever, the Clinton circle. She’s a f_____ hawk and like a neocon, practically. She’s surrounded by all these sleazy money types who are just corrupting everything everywhere. But she’s going to be the first female president, and women in America are going to be completely invested in her candidacy. Opposition to her is going to be depicted as misogynistic, like opposition to Obama has been depicted as racist. It’s going to be this completely symbolic messaging that’s going to overshadow the fact that she’ll do nothing but continue everything in pursuit of her own power. They’ll probably have a gay person after Hillary who’s just going to do the same thing.I hope this happens so badly, because I think it’ll be so instructive in that regard. It’ll prove the point. Americans love to mock the idea of monarchy, and yet we have our own de facto monarchy. I think what these leaks did is, they demonstrated that there really is this government that just is the kind of permanent government that doesn’t get affected by election choices and that isn’t in any way accountable to any sort of democratic transparency and just creates its own world off on its own.
And. Still. I. Will. Not. Vote. For. Jeb.
Can we emphasize this point enough for the Vichy GOP? No amount of Hillary Angst is going to get votes for the next Dole/McCain/Romney. Especially if non-reformer #4 is Yet Another Bush.
If you want to impress me, Mr. Bush, don’t run. Show that you care about the country, and it’s not about you, by Not Making It About You. Get together with Sarah Palin, tour the country on the Tea Party Express, connect with the people, and support someone else. Get behind the Convention of States in an honest way that will make the Founders smile as they look down from Eternity.
We’ve got 300+ million people in this country. If the only way somebody who is nominally conservative can win a Presidential election is to bear the name ‘Bush’ (as has been the case since 1988) then just screw us to the wall.
I voted Perot in ’92, and I’ll write in the old codger again before I vote for another Bush. Sure, I’m just the one vote, but I’m far from alone. If the Republican party wants to turn the 2016 vote into a suicide pact, Then So Be It.

Idiot, while there is problem at this time with establishment GOP not being principled, they wouldn’t have inflicted a health insurance mandate on the country, they do reduce taxes every so often & if you think not voting for whoever is the GOP nominee whether you have to “hold your nose” or not, then you are complicit in supporting the Democrats. Figure it out, it doesn’t take much thought, lackwit.
Sorry, I haven’t seen a whole hell of a lot of difference between the commiecratic put in judges and the republicom judges.
Oh No0O0o. It’s not like Obamacare came out of any GOP minds. No, not at all.
Over the transom….
The last Democratic Supreme Court justice with some residual respect for constitutional text and democratic choice was Byron White, b. 1917 and appointed in 1962. Of the last dozen Republican appointments, roughly five have turned out satisfactorily and all but one of the rest had to get past a Democratic Senate. Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford made a number of unforced errors (as the description of the process in John Dean’s memoirs makes plain). It was foolish of Reagan to listen to Barry Goldwater and doubly foolish of George Bush to listen to Warren Rudman; even with an opposition Senate, you likely could have done better than Rudman’s puppy-dog David Souter.
John Roberts? You counting that treasonous slut bag as a plus?
The problem with Iraq was staying. Shudda broke everything, killed as many of the regime as we could find in 90 days, then handed the keys to someone else and told them not to make us come back.
Dewey was anything but a man of quality. He was the prototypical “Rockefeller Republican.”
Ike would have done very poorly in the current system.
If Hillary is so incredible as a candidate (which again is a premise I do not accept), then the GOP better nominate someone who can unite conservative and establishment camps and bring in some indies too. I can tell you without hesitation, neither Jeb Bush or Kris Kristiekreme can do that.
What we have he-ahh is a failure… Period!
I think what you’re looking for there is called a nuclear bomb.
I was promised way back in the ’70s that “the next war will be nuclear.” Never happened.
Alan West …
West/Perry or Perry/West (the former is my preference not only because I admire Col. West but because I think we need a conservative black man as President). We need two consecutive conservative Presidents serving two terms each as well as control of both House and Senate to undo all the bullcrap done since Ron Reagan …
Funny thing about tribal savages: “winning hearts and minds” means “suckers we can bleed dry, then kill.” Best way to deal with them is to speak savage: “If you kill one of us, we’ll kill ten of you. If you level one of our buildings, we’ll level one of your cities. If we get even a hint of you planning on coming after us, we’ll obliterate you.” And then follow through. Rinse and repeat until they get the hint or no longer exist. Either way, problem solved.
Vote Dead Dick in 2016!
Left this off!
Heh.
Vote Dead Dick in 2016!
Hear Hear! I lost my right to vote by my past criminal acts. I did it to myself and I deeply regret my crimes and miss my rights. That being said, what I haven’t lost is my obligation to be engaged in the political process and to speak out in the public square and make my opinions known. I may support candidates and persuade people to consider their proposed policies. I cannot cast a vote but I am obligated to participate.
I have not done anything arbitrary. Experience as a line administrator is is not an arbitrary qualification.
You do understand that there is a distinction between ‘quality’ and ‘portfolio of political views I fancy’?
Allen West what?
Allen West doesn’t have a chance of being elected to anything ever again. He’s a sideshow at best.
Remember Alan Keyes? Positive ideas and great presentation on a great many issues but also too far out on the fringe to be taken seriously.
Sarah Palin as well. Sure she can draw in a crowd at the state fair and work up a certain segment of far right Republicans, but President of the United States of America?
It will never happen.
Honestly, I don’t know who the best Republican candidate will be yet but we’d better get f_ing serious about this now or else.
For President in 2016 (for real, not my parody candidacy of Dead Dick)
Allen West was not a Colonel.
Allen West was a Lieutenant Colonel.
Huge difference.
West was allowed to retire from the Army rather than getting the boot. His potential Republican primary opponents as well the Democrats will beat that issue until it bleeds and he’s forced out of any race he joins.
I voted Gary Johnson in 2012 and I can sleep at night. But then I live in kansas. If the GOP can’t win KS without my vote they can’t win.
I will not vote for vichyGOP ever again either. If Bush runs I’ll vote Constitution Party. But I won’t check the box for another Bush. I’m done with them.
RE: Your comments on Sarah Palin.
They gave Ronald Reagan the same treatment.
It is as anti-conservative a thing as can be said….
It also runs against the Spirit of The Constitution, showing a contempt for one of the virtues of Federalism.
THIS.
We should be concentrating our efforts in a handful or so of connected states, where we can gain control and from such a confederation mount a Restoration that, at best, will spread across The Fruited Plain, or, at worst, make effecting a separation somewhat easier.
Refugium inveniemus in provinciis
[Find refuge in the provinces]
No…Mitt is just, finally, showing what he truly is.
A small group of us conservatives from New England tried to warn others about him, and many did not listen. We saw how he conducted himself as Governor, how the Democratic Speaker of the Mass. House actually ran the Commonwealth. Any successes Willard claimed were as a result of the Speaker, Tom Finneran, being a fiscal conservative [when his corruptions did not rule him].
Let us not forget the crap pulled at the GOP Convention in 2012 where the Primary Process was rigged in favor of the Republican Establishment. If Jeb gets the Nod, it will have a lot to do with this act [ie: he will not be the favorite of The Base].
Conservative memories are so short.
[cough, clears throat] Romneycare [clears throat]
I saw Gov. Pence this AM on Fox & Friends. What a disappointment.
He did not answer questions directly and stuck to his damn talking points.
I had high hopes for him several years ago, but he has turned out to be another in a very long line of conservative disappointments.
Why do no many of our pols want to be loved by the in-crowd?

Or give ’em two bathtubs and some Cialis……when the time is Right.
Fact Most People Don’t Know: The Presidential Primary System was created and pushed for by the Progressives in the first half of the 20th Century.
It is a System born of a belief in Democracy.
Figures. I had the same sense about him when he spoke at the NRA convention.
Fear of standing out, and of rocking the boat.
Well, I was listenin’ but I did my duty that one last time and voted for the side. I promised WELL BEFORE that vote that it was indeed the last time. It would never happen again, and thus my conscience is clear.
Amen, Brother!
The point is the training and the experience. And West was protecting his men. They can beat that all they want, because it won’t mean squat.
Aside that non sequitur, being a “line administrator” (which is a strange concept, since “administrative experience” is a fairly well understood concept) is not the only qualification, nor is it necessary when other credentials are solid.
Seems like we , not me, elected some regional yahoo from Georgia in 1976. And didn’t we, again, not me, elect some regional yahoo from Arkansas in 1992?
[…] again, maybe Jeb Bush or Chris Christie are candidates for you […]
Oh yeah, the famous rules change over objections. I’m not sure if that’s scored on the Sodom side or the Gomorrah.
Heard it all before. That broken-record complaining about the most effective voices on the right always leads to a RINO.
It’s not playing anymore. No one cares about Palin’s critics, or her voice, or the few vets who side against West, or the stupid, Cruz-is-ineligible crap, or the JBS fear-mongering over some mythical thing called a “con-con,” or any of the rest of the fringe nonsense.
That isn’t “getting serious,” it’s getting in position to be elbowed the fzck out of the way.
You can see this play out at every conservative site on the web. Most of us are not doing the RINO dance anymore. They had their chances.
It’s time for Restoration or the End Game. Take your pick. The middle ground of “conventional wisdom” will disappear fast.
Oh, I think the Japan and Germany PostWWII models would have worked. We just got stuck with “W” and his family’s famous desire to toady to the UN.
So instead of telling them, “Here is your ‘nation.’ Follow the rules we wrote down or we wipe you out,” we got, “Hey guys! You want to learn about ‘freedom,’ right? No? Well maybe later, after we spend an a$$ load of our resources fixing stuff up. Would that be Okay?”
I do regret my Perot vote in ’92. I wish I could take that one back.
Never heard that tune before (or that band). Thanks!
When Mrs Thatcher became the first woman Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, there was no great groundswell of female votes for her.
In fact, feminists hated her with more vitriol and howling anger than they did any of her male predecessors or successors because she was a conservative woman, a thing that in leftythink should not be.
I think Sarah Palin got a taste of that progressive misogyny, what with the rape “jokes”, the attacks on her family, and the current President of the United States describing her as a “pig”.
I don’t imagine that Mrs Clinton’s candidacy would have much better luck with women, because ladies aren’t a mindless herd voting bloc who will automatically get behind the candidate with the vagina.
