Rush Limbaugh Will Rape the DCCC

Those lying bastards finally told one too many lies:

Radio host Rush Limbaugh has threatened to sue the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) for defamation, The Daily Caller has learned.
Limbaugh retained the services of lawyer Patty Glaser and demanded that the DCCC “preserve all records in anticipation of a lawsuit for defamation and interference” after the Democratic Party group led a campaign against Limbaugh based on out-of-context statements the host made about sexual assault. Limbaugh’s legal team delivered a letter to DCCC representatives Monday informing them of the legal threat. Limbaugh has also demanded a public retraction and apology.
The Limbaugh team is currently proceeding from the standpoint of litigating and has not yet made a decision as to whether the DCCC could make any concessions at this point to prevent the lawsuit.
The DCCC “has intentionally disseminated demonstrably false statements concerning Rush Limbaugh in a concerted effort to harm Mr. Limbaugh, and with reckless disregard for the resulting impact to small businesses across America that choose to advertise on his radio program” according to the GlaserWeil law firm’s letter to the DCCC, which was obtained by TheDC. “Mr. Limbaugh clearly, unambiguously, and emphatically condemned the notion that ‘no’ means ‘yes.’”

If Democrats couldn’t lie, they could never win elections. Last time I checked, it was Hillary Clinton’s husband who was pro-rape.

“Better put some ice on that,” DCCC.

  4. What are his odds of success? It’ll probably be worth it for the discovery motions. I suspect there’ll be some suits going the other direction, which could be fun.

  5. Democrat logic dictates that everyone knows we lie and therefore everyone knew we were lying and thus Limbaugh could not have been injured because everyone knew we were lying.

  8. Limbaugh is from a family of lawyers, including federal judges. He knows what he’s doing, and he has a top-notch lawyer to do it with.

    I don’t even know what their guidelines are, and I already hate them and hope they lose. State universities are all misandrist bigots.

  14. It is a very tough standard for public figures. After Hustler v Falwell, even the intentional infliction of emotional harm isn’t actionable, and the believability of a DCCC fundraising claim is likely on the same level as a Larry Flynt cartoon. So he would have to demonstrate actual harm in lost advertisers and listeners, a very difficult thing to do.

    But it isn’t impossible, just very hard, and if Rush is willing to fund it, he can better afford the legal costs than DCCC can. There are lots of lawyers who would defend them for free, but the length and depth of such a case is a sinkhole for hours you can’t bill to other clients.

    In effect, it’s a version of Lawfare. Nice to see the good guys on the suing side for once.

  16. That will be a leg of the defense, too – that people take claims in political fundraising mailers with a grain of salt.

    But the hardest part may be demonstrating actual injury. Rush’s numbers have been growing again since the Fluke-up a couple of years ago.

  21. I’d bet on Limbaugh having letters from former or potential advertisers saying they won’t buy time because of the DCCC claims.

  47. No attorney is going to let a businessman write a letter detailing why he won’t do business with someone, and Pop’s Soda Shop can’t afford Limbaugh.

  50. Discovery is the last thing the DCCC would want. There are far to many tings that could come out that would produce much fodder for the monologue.
