LOL! Time Magazine Suggests Ban on Word ‘Feminist,’ Freakout Ensues

The irony accumulates in layers here:

Time isn’t so sure about feminists. For its fourth annual “word banishment poll,” the magazine posted a list of suggested words that should maybe just go away . . . But right smack in the middle of the list is that word so many people are supposedly afraid of: “feminist.”
Time takes care to note that it’s not recommending doing away with feminism, the word or the movement, but rather with the label used to describe people who believe in gender equality. “You have nothing against feminism itself, but when did it become a thing that every celebrity had to state their position on whether this word applies to them, like some politician declaring a party?” Katy Steinmetz writes. “Let’s stick to the issues and quit throwing this label around like ticker tape at a Susan B. Anthony parade.”

Please, ladies, don’t let us interrupt your panic fits of hysteria.

Some days it’s like they’re trying to make my job easier. A bad day for the man-hating death cult is a good day for me.

  1. If we pinned the term “gynophile” on them they would, by definition, be forced to join the ranks of penis-wielding cis-men who also love women…

  2. When you say “feminist” I think “sexist,” “infanticide,” “homosexual.”

Don’t ban it, just define it for what it is: Neo-Nazi garbage.

  3. Change it to “Intellectual Lesbian Man-Fear.” “Packagephobia” would be honest. “Morbid Man-Dread.”

  4. Time’s simply trolling, is all. They’re that desperate to regain relevance. Good luck to them, but it’s not going to stop their slide to oblivion.

  5. “We think reductive attacks on feminism should be banned.” Planned Parenthood (@PPact) November 12, 2014

Ooh, “reductive”! I love it when they talk dirty!

  6. OT: Woodpile Report 395 – 11 Nov 2014 will be the final issue. Sad day for blogging as Ol’Remus will be closing up shop. He was the pioneer of ”Peak Oppression Theory” and his common sense commentary will be sorely missed.

  7. Feminists should not accuse others of being reductive. Has anyone seen an issue in male/female relations that feminists have not blamed on the patriarchy? Has anyone seen them suggesting any other solution than more feminism?

  8. They can ban “feminist” right after they bring back “actress”, “comedienne”, “waitress”, and “stewardess”. Otherwise, wear the effing badge you weenies.

  9. Let’s ban attacks on the use of Christian crosses. Rumors are a very fat vampire wearing a cape and calling itself Andrea Dworkin was sighted on the outskirts of Mexico City. #BringBackOurCrosses.

  10. Voted just now and “feminist” is waaay out in the lead, with 48% of the votes (next highest has 13%.)

    *snicker*

  11. Abortion Central (Planned Parenthood) weighs in on the aide of feminism?
Their raison d’être depends entirely upon P.I.V. what are they thinking?

  12. Give it time…like the word “liberal,” leftists will shortly realize that “feminist” has no traction and engenders (heh!) ridicule. They’ll adopt a new label to obscure their foolishness, which last a decade or two before they move on to something new. Leftists persevere and are ineducable…they’ll never be self-aware enough to admit that their core ideology is a rancid turd.

  13. 1) It took a very long time to wear out “liberal.” Ditto “feminist.” Give it a couple of more decades, alas.
    2) Do turds actually go rancid? As opposed, I suppose, to being fresh? I don’t quite get the latter.

  14. RE: What’s In a Name?

Merde by any other name still smells. — Shakespeare, another man, updated to Feminism

  15. I counted up the score of the non feminist entries and it only comes to 39%. That leaves 11% of what? Absentee ballots?
