A Canadian feminist has deleted her Tumblr blog in which she accused her father, an instructor at Laval University in Quebec, of being a “pedophile and abuser” who had “sexually assaulted” her.
Camille Freytag, 20, had spent months publishing accusations against her father on a Tumblr blog called “Lesbian Feminist Witch.” However, after an account of her claims was published here Monday night, it appears that Ms. Freytag deleted her entire Tumblr account Tuesday afternoon. Prior to its deletion, Ms. Freytag’s blog had recounted the psychiatric problems — depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) — she said had led her to drop out of college in 2013 and apply for public assistance in Montreal. Blaming her mental illness on growing up in an “abusive environment,” Ms. Freytag described being alienated from her entire family except one older sister, and said she was living on welfare payments of $748 a month.
Descriptions of her father on the “Lesbian Feminist Witch” blog led several readers to identify Ms. Freytag’s father as Puma Patrice Freytag, a 69-year-old theater instructor at Laval University in Quebec City.
“My father is the respected university teacher and charismatic leader of his union who everyone loves and admire[s],” Ms. Freytag wrote on her blog. “My father has been many men, but what he always has been behind closed doors is a pedophile and an abuser.”
Puma Freytag is president of SCCUL (Syndicat des chargées et chargés de cours de l’Université Laval), the union representing faculty at Laval, which is Canada’s oldest university and has nearly 30,000 students. According to his daughter’s now-deleted blog, Puma Freytag was once a “hippie who lived in a commune, did yoga and believed in peace and love,” as well as “the communist student in the street” during the 1968 riots in Paris. Camille Freytag’s blog claimed she had been “brainwashed” into “thinking my childhood was totally normal,” and described her father as “a pedophile, manipulative, a drunk,” while calling her mother “an emotionally abusive pothead” and a “horrible person.”
Ms. Freytag’s blog complained that her psychologist seemed somewhat skeptical of her claims, and said her family called her “crazy,” telling her she “should probably be in a psych ward for all my life.”
Is it just me or are these women trying to be the reincarnation of Sylvia Plath? Recall, Sylvia wrote a poem entitled “Daddy,” in which she compared her father to a Nazi stormtrooper. He was an entomologist and studied bees. He died when she was eight, so she never had to retract the poem.
It bothers me that so many young women have such profound psychiatric problems.

Plath was certainly one of those. Sometimes the parallels between her life and some of these Tumblr people are quite striking. It makes me wonder whether Plath is assigned in Womyn’s Studies courses as some sort of “Protofeminist.”
Anything is possible, though I note her parents’ history comes from one source: her. I also note, she describes an encounter with a psychologist wherein she claimed to not have any real memories of the abuse of which she accuses her father and bemoaning the fact that the psychologist did not take the allegations seriously.
Ah well. I still have my suspicions of “parents” with those specs.
It bothers me that they have access to the internet and legions of like-minded suckers who are unable and unwilling to see through their lies.
I’ve interacted with quite a few younger people online over the years (I turn 40 this year so I don’t consider myself a young person anymore 😉 ) and my assessment is that they all seem to be trying to outdo each other with psychiatric diagnoses or medications. It used to be that there was a sense of pride in having your wits about you y’know? Now a’days it seems like you’re not important unless you’ve got some scary mental disorder to talk about.
So why has she been complicit in allowing her rapist to remain free?
If he assaults another woman/child then isnt she morally responsible (in a minor way) for not at least attempting to see him charged and jailed?

In my family, my grandmother lived to a fairly old age. She was in her late 80s when she died and she was fairly independent and strong up to the end. It was a stroke that took her out. But she didn’t believe in taking medications that made her foggy headed. I kind of hold to that too. I’m skeptical of taking any medication that could mess with my mental state.
Reading through the laundry-list of mental disorders that young people claim to have these days can make your eyes bug out with shock. Sometimes I wonder if it isn’t the Psychiatric community going out of its way to manipulate people, though that sounds rather like a bad conspiracy theory. But it’s easy to see how psychiatrists and the big medicine companies could be making big profits off of peoples’ fears.
It seemed very much like one of those “recovered memory” cases from the 1980s, but if her father is a Communist … Well, if bad things are going to happen to people, I think bad people deserve it most, and Communists are the worst people ever.
But it doesn’t speak well for people seeking employment. Wouldn’t you think twice about hiring someone with a laundry list of mental conditions? Does no one think about this anymore?

You would be correct. When an alleged “victim” is caught in a lie, one of the usual means of dealing with the aftermath is to flush the lie down the memory hole.
Ok, but if you have debilitating mental problems, and can neither work, or even interview for a position, what are you supposed to do? Die?
Hmmmm…bi polar depression, and anxiety disorders are not things you just “pull up your bootstraps” about, and if you think it is, you have no idea what it’s like to suffer from something like that.

There is definitely a problem with over diagnosis, especially for PTSD, but they’ve been quick to diagnose clinical depression, and put you on SSRI’s for the last 20 yrs.

Well, life is easy from the comfort of your home. Going out into the world, and dealing with other people is the hard part for those dealing with anxiety, and depression.

That’s a small group of feminists who were quickly, and deservingly rebuked for making his shirt an issue. No idea what his shirt had to do with mental illness vs. achievement either. They’re not related.
Um, no, I’m not a democrat, and that’s just an observation based on even working people being trampled by free market forces, and unable to keep up with the high cost of living. It’s always a treat though to be put down by some selfish baby boomer when criticizing the economic system he, or she worships, and lives to maintain but is failing so many.
It gets hilarious when they threaten you with “alleged” C&D letters that somehow never arrive, special visitors with shiny badges, arrest (especially when they try to connect it to a federal law concerning sex trafficking), and supposedly lawyers are taking notes on everything you post concerning the “victim.”

I’m thinking that it’s probably lies. She had to feel there was some reason (other than her own confused insanity) for why she’s so confused and insane and her life is a day to day trial so as many before her have done she made up a story that allowed her to feel vindicated and relieved of responsibility, invited sympathy from those who believed her and gave her “lesbo cred” when her moods got too extreme. But somehow, somewhere, either Daddy or Mommy got wind of this and she was told to cover it up and deny her lies or the authorities would soon be paying a visit.
I imagine the shrieks of anger in the family home are a wonder to behold.

Which means that this “respected university teacher and charismatic leader of his union who everyone loves and admire[s],” has now had his entire reputation trashed by a daughter who is mentally unstable; I have little doubt that Miss Freytag deleted her blog due to your having taken note of it, and publicized it widely, and the odds are that some of Dr Freytag’s colleagues at Laval saw it, or at least had it pointed out to them.
It’s a good thing that Dr Freytag is retirement age; one suspects that the accusations of a daughter born when he was 49 years old will have started at least a whispering campaign at Laval, a “I wonder if it’s true?” undercurrent that he’d find hard to survive professionally.
The trouble is that the lovely Miss Freytag has not</i< been caught in a lie; at best, our host has cast doubt on her story.
And that's the problem: who can prove that Dr Freytag did not molest his daughter? Mr McCain doesn't believe Miss Freytag, and I have no reason to believe her either, but there will be a continual whispering amongst his friends and colleagues, "I wonder if he really did that?"

That’s a huge part of this story: yeah, she’s nuts, but it’s still possible that she told the truth about her father. Some people might even suggest that she’s nuts because she was molested; I would not say that because it assumes that she told the truth, and I don’t take that assumption.
But some people will, and Dr Freytag’s life has now been ruined.
Does it follow that, because her father is a Communist, he deserves to be labeled as a pedophile even if there is no proof that he is one? If your answer is yes, then the left are just as justified in saying that, since they think we are bad people, the worst people around, then we would deserve to be falsely accused of such things.
I wouldn’t even think once about hiring someone with a laundry list of mental conditions. I’d wish someone well on his job search, and hope that he found a good position with a competitor.
I’d also never hire someone I believed to be a homosexual, or someone who majored in Gender or Women’s or African-American Studies, because such a person would be a discrimination or hostile work environment lawsuit waiting to happen. I’d never hire someone I knew to be a smoker, because such people, in general, are less productive and lead to higher health insurance costs.
On the other hand, I admired the hiring policy of an office manager I once knew. It was obvious that she never hired any women more attractive than herself — which excluded about 90% of women — but had a bevy of fat and/or ugly women working for her. The result of that was that they had fewer other job opportunities, and stayed with the company longer, and the men in the company weren’t trying to flirt with them. This was a net plus for the company.
Yes.
I don’t think it’s so much that, as the fact that when your character is already dubious, it’s hard not to wonder.
