Kirsten Powers on what we might call “The Sonogram Effect”:
Pope Francis has correctly described the unborn as “the most defenseless and innocent among us.” But in the sordid tale of strategic crushing of the unborn to better harvest their hearts, lungs and livers, many Democrats have incredibly cast an organization with a roughly $1.3 billion annual budget in the role of the innocent and defenseless. Hillary Clinton emerged as Planned Parenthood’s highest profile protector Monday, decrying the “assault” against her allegedly helpless campaign donors.
The Democratic Party shilling for barbarism — whether by politicians, liberal media outlets, union officials or unrestricted abortion advocates — is not likely to be viewed favorably by future generations. These Democrats will be remembered for demonizing the activists who lifted the veil on a previously sanitized process and for seekingrestraining orders to silence truth tellers. They will be remembered for publishing dehumanizing decrees — as The New Republic did — that people stop criticizing Planned Parenthood because as a medical matter, “The term baby … doesn’t apply until birth” (that thing on your sonogram is nothing more than a “product[] of conception.”) And they will be remembered for demanding investigations into citizen journalists for meticulously exposing atrocities in our midst.
Read the whole thing. Science is on the side of life. For more than 30 years now, parents have had the experience of staring at that ultrasound screen and seeing their own children alive in the womb at 10 or 12 weeks gestation. And, because of advances in neo-natal care, there are adults alive today who were born more than three months premature.

Life deserves a chance.
Anyone who tries to tell you otherwise . . . Well, they’re evil.

The science is settled.
“See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil . . . I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.”

Because only a complete dolt would believe otherwise based upon the evidence, Evil must prevent dissemination of the truth. With truth, comes spiritual discernment and conviction.
I read somewhere (Slaughter of the Innocents?) that societies in their dying days typically turn to infanticide for some reason. We, as a society, have not only turned to it, but have enshrined it into law. I can’t understand the level of depravity that thinks this murdering of children is a good thing and I’m not sure I’d remain sane if I did.
Will the embargo by the media to those who support abortion continue?
I remember our first ultrasound.
The little man was only 8 weeks along, but you could clearly make out his tiny hands and feet and the little nose on his face.
Anybody who can see that and still claim that the unborn child isn’t human, that it’s OK to burn him with poisons and flush him out of the womb and throw his broken little body away in the trash, is a sick and evil person.
With our third, my wife took a tumble down our basement steps and wound up driving to her OB/GYN as a precaution. I got a call from his office telling me to come to the hospital, as he couldn’t find a heartbeat. I recall waiting for that ultrasound and wave of relief, joy and tears of gladness all around when we saw that heart beating away.
Disclosure: Of course, to be fair, he’ll turn 16 next month and I just found out how much my car insurance is going to go up. : )
“throw his broken little body away in the trash”
You misspelled “carve up his little body for salable parts”. HTH.
I saw my baby’s 18 week sonogram back on 7/24. The anatomy scan is one of the most exciting sonograms for parents. This is my 3rd child so I have been through it all before and knew what to expect, but I remember with my daughter how magical it was to see her little spine flex and her hands and legs wave as she moved in my belly.
I’ve watched the horrible abortion videos with disgust and awe that anyone could perform such a procedure and not be affected by the bits and pieces they are handling in the aftermath of such a procedure. When I’ve talked about it with my husband I remind him that the only difference between our sweet child who we look forward to greeting in December and those ‘clumps of cells’ that abortionists are stowing in the refrigerator is the fact that we’ve named her and we know she is a person waiting to be born.
Is it easy to choose to have a child? No. Children are expensive and require a great deal of effort and sacrifice. This is not a reason to deny them life and existence.
Children are expensive and require a great deal of effort and sacrifice.
My wife and I call our three, “Investments in Happiness.” The dividends far, far. far exceed the “costs.”
We call ours the retirement plan. They just need to choose who gets stuck with me. Or my wife.
I’m only partially joking. It’s normal in my family for the kids to take care of their parents. I do for my mom, my dad did for my grandfather and so on.
I say the same with our 8: 10 birthdays a year, 8 times the precious moments, more food and more laughter. I have no regrets and would do it all again.
Only in an evil, amoral elite culture would “leaders” who are really moral dwarfs attempt to gain sympathy for baby killers.
From Marx to Stalin to Mao to Castro to Pol Pot and Uncle Ho, the left has always been a culture of murder and death. Hillary the soul dead old beast is just spewing the Marxist drivel of her twisted youth. Go off to your just rewards in hell, you evil bitch.
Fun bit: I recently read a story about an expectant mother who is blind. She obviously couldn’t see a sonogram or ultrasound… so they took the sonogram data and used it to generate a 3D-printed ‘relief’ image of the child.

Thank you for your comment. However, I must make a point about this statement:
“Children are expensive and require a great deal of effort and sacrifice. “
We who love life and love God should avoid presenting children as an “expense,” when they are in fact a miraculous blessing.
This “children are expensive” message is part of the anti-life Contraceptive Culture. A big part of this message involves representing an estimate of college education expenses as necessary to the calculation (because calculation is what “Planned Parenthood” is reallly about) of whether or not one should have children. Yet we must keep in mind that (a) only about one-quarter of children ultimately grow up to earn a bachelor’s degree, (b) most college students receive financial aid, take out student loans and/or work to pay their own tuition, and (c) “average” estimates of college eduation costs are inflated by the inclusion of students who attend expensive private schools and the presumption that students will live on campus all four years.
My eldest daughter worked her way through college. She did her first two years living at home and attending community college, then moved into a nearby apartment with a fellow student while they attended the local satellite campus of a xtate university. She graduated summa cum laude and debt-free, married her husband two months after her graduation at age 21. Now, five years later, she and her husband (her high-school sweetheart) own their own home and drive a Mercedes.
We also have twin sons, age 22. One is in the Army. The other is a home remodeling contractor, married to a beautiful woman, with a young son and another on the way.
Our three youngest are now 16, 14 and 12. We have high hopes for them, too.
For most families, the “expense” of children consists mainly of the difference between (a) the wages the mother would earn if she did not have to care for her children, and (b) the presumably lower income she earns as a result from reduced participation in the paid work force. However, there are numerous ways in which the stay-at-home mother can still earn income, just as there are many ways childcare can be provided — by her husband, by relatives, by friends, etc. — to permit mothers to continue working outside the home, at least on a part-time basis. For example, my wife and I frequently babysit for our grandson (and are assisted in this endeavor by our younger children), to enable our daughter-in-law to work and attend college class.
Our family may seem more “traditional” than it actually is. True, for many years, I was the primary breadwinner and my wife the primary caregiver — especially during the 10 years I worked full-time in D.C. — but she almost always managed to find some way to augment our income (e.g., by babysiting for others), and at times during our 26-year marriage she has earned more than I have.
One final point: Efficiencies of scale make the large family more economically viable than most people would expect. Once you have three kids, really, you might as well have four or five. At that point, the demands of motherhood are such that a more “traditional” division of labor between parents becomes almost a necessity. My wife and I were very fortunate that I had a (relatively) high-paying job during the decade when our three youngest were born. This enabled my wife to focus on homeschooling and caring for our infants. We had to cut a lot of corners, but the “efficiencies of scale” — two kids to a bedroom, for example — saved money, so that we raised six children on a budget smaller than many families with fewer children.
It is offensive to tell people what they should with regard to their families, but it is important to think of what you could do, if you put your mind to it.
Today is when millions of Democrats who support murdering 800,000 or so babies every year are lecturing us on how immoral America’s atomic bombing of Japan was. It’s stupid with an extra dose of stupid.
If a woman is assaulted while 2 weeks pregnant and the fetus dies, what’s the law?
Progressive loons are whinging about stupid conservatives who are pro forced birth, the bizarre moral equivalency is stunning. Birthing a baby is a wonderful life giving event whereas abortions are lethal, killing a human being.
Liberal lunacy
Very cool.
It depends on the state. In mine, it’s murder because we have have a law which says life begins at conception.
And, yes. The logical/jurisprudential inconsistencies boggle the mind. In the civil arena, the woman on her way to the abortion clinic who has an automobile accident and loses the child can file a wrongful death suit for damages due to the death of her child. Human-ness determined by whim.
Sure PP. And “Honey, the product of conception just kicked!” said no expectant mother ever.
I don’t mean to speak for BSR, but I read her comment not as a caution, but as an acknowledgment that being a parent requires an immediate subordination of Self for the needs of another. By removing the nexus between the act of procreation and procreation itself, that reality has become lost on every generation subsequent to and including the Baby Boom.
It is all about “self-actualization,” which necessarily leads to people viewing those around them, including their own children, as accessories to their own life. The focus becomes how do these little ones affect me? How do they compliment and enhance my existence? The attitude is demonstrated in a range from the mundane of the rabid “soccer moms” or helicopter parents to the horrific of the abortion clinic.
Much is required to be a good parent, not the least of which is superintending an immortal soul to adulthood. Perhaps it would be better if more people realized that before blithely jumping in the sack with anything that moves.
The number one killer in the US is heart disease, 600,000 a year. And yet there are 1.2 million abortions in the US every year.
I’m being conservative on the numbers but even so the results are startling.
Ah, 16. The year they know all and see all. One of the years you almost (almost, mind you) wonder if it’s too late for an abortion. 🙂
Fortunately, you can look back on it and laugh.
What is frightening is that many average Americans think abortion is ok even after seeing ultrasounds, premature babies, PP videos with little arms and legs — we are lost and I’m not sure as a society you can come back from government sanctioned/funded infanticide and the commoditization of baby body parts
Make him get a job now, while he still knows everything! 😉
RSM: Thank you for using the “B” word: barbarism…
I’m not sure even the classical barbarians were as immoral and perverse as modern America.
Progressive lunacy look what passes for facts http://goo.gl/4KlHBj
I know the progressives on social media think butchering s tiny helpless human is OK and some even think it is an act of kindness. That women are fine with this kind of barbarity is simply unfathomable to me.
Honey were are expecting a fetus said no one ever
“My dear brothers, never forget, when you hear the progress of enlightenment vaunted, that the devil’s best trick is to persuade you that he doesn’t exist!”
Charles Baudelaire
If she’s only two weeks pregnant, she might not even know she’s with child, and it would never come up. If she’s two months pregnant, then she (almost always) knows she’s knocked up, and then she can report that to law enforcement.
The laws are different in different states, because the pro-abortion forces don’t want anything at all that could ever suggest that the fetus is an actual living human being.
No, it’s evil with an extra dose of stupid.
She will. ‘Twould be better for our country if she did so before November of 2016.
When normal people refer to the product of three and three, they call it “nine.” Molochites are the only people who don’t think that “product of conception” is an obvious euphemism that fools no one.
That, or they’re suppressing their awareness of what it means when people use euphemisms.
Im probably in a minority here in I think it should be legal, but rare.
At the same time Im revolted by the continuous attempt to make it “normal” and guilt free. We live in an age of contraception where nearly every child born should be the result of a conscious choice to have one, instead it has morphed into just another option .
I saw yesterday a blood test I was supposed to process and the reason was our (now normal) test for downs syndrome in an unborn baby. Quite strange knowing a test you are assisting in might cause the death of an unborn child.
It seems amazing to me that the web of life or death can even involve me even in the smallest way in a tiny clinic in the middle of nowhere.
There must be millions of “little Eichmanns” like me who process bloods/paperwork who never really think that the results might kill an unborn.
I can rationalize it by saying “its only to let the parents know, then its up to them” but in reality I know they will be “guided” to a decision to abort if the test comes back wrong.
Uncomfortable.
I’ve heard the theory advanced that what many families seem to do is to keep having kids until they have one of each gender, or give up trying. I know that in my case, the reason I’m here was because I have older brothers and my mother had a desire to try for a girl one more time.
I’m sorry, HOW much of that taxpayer “support” is kicked back to
Democrat campaign “activism”.
Well..uh…”administrative fees” I suppose.
I can see how Democrat incumbents would support the continued
flow of “everybody’s” (OK, 50%) tax payments to their larger “contributors”. Is there a PoliSci term for that?
Ms. Learner, et alia, not available for comment?
A very sharp 3-minute video on PP.
I loved it.

They know the power of language; the power of euphemisms.
The mad scientists chuckling their way through the undercover videos (“We got ’em all mixed up in a bag! Ha, ha!”) arrived at that mental state through the power of euphemisms.
A lifetime of saying “product of conception” instead of “baby” renders them capable of what they do.
http://liturgy.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/mymomsgoingtokillme.jpg
Narcissism. They start to view their offspring as taking away their stuff, instead of seeing their offspring as those they want to bequeath their stuff to.
I saw a great play about the painter Mark Rothko called “Red.” In it, the actor playing Rothko delivers a monologue about how a new wave of painters have to rise up and kill (figuratively) the old painters. Then he spends the duration of the play generally abusing the young apprentice he has hired… because, in his mind, the young man is there to “kill” him.
Now we’re going deeper into that as we talk about “living forever” with technology. Thus, we’ll just fall further into “Why do we need successors? Kill them all!”
I see what you’re saying and I believe you’ve got it right. It does explain a lot of their unseemly desire for baby killing.
Of course narcissism explains a lot of leftist behavior, from feminism to the qwerty people.
Good point made in your harsh realization.
They like to argue that “It’s her choice, stay out of it.”, but how many other people are in some way effected by it?
It’s another pov that the progressive left doesn’t want to hear about.
NEVER overlook the spiritual realm. There ARE spiritual forces of evil–in Judeo-Christian thought, demons. They crave the destruction of human souls; what better way of doing that leading them to slaughter their own children?
Peter Kreeft, an RC philosopher and professor who’s written a lot books, all of which are excellent reads, says it best: “The only reason to refer to a human being as anything other than a human being is to kill it.”
I dont know your figures but I couldnt imagine a more powerful form of ad as one done like an anti smoking ad with “abortion is the leading cause of preventable death in America”.
Would that be factually correct?
If they admitted the truth about what’s happening in an abortion, then they’d have to change their sexual ethic; they’d have to give up their “fun” of loosened morals.
They have an ethic that needs abortion as one of its support pillars. So they will rationalize it till the end of time.
…Of course, some of us know what happens at the end of time.
I was offered that test despite having only a less than 1% chance of Downs per the ultrasound results. I was dying of curiosity to find out the sex and knew the DNA test would tell that too, but I got a sick feeling as the doctor talked about it and declined. Abortion is not something we consider an option, so the results would have changed nothing in that regard. But something about the pressure to know “for sure” sickened me just a bit…I had to back away.
It’s actually a perfect analogy. The ancient pagan tribes would dispatch unwanted and “damaged” infants and children with the utmost callousness. Christians and Jews stood out as seeming practically insane because we value life from the start. Same as it ever was.
