‘No More Fun of Any Kind!’

The Alpha Phi sorority at the University of Alabama put together a recruiting video. The apparent object of the video was to promote the idea that Alpha Phi girls are pretty, popular and fun. This is not a controversial political idea, except for feminists who hate pretty, popular girls having fun:

It’s a parade of white girls and blonde hair dye, coordinated clothing, bikinis and daisy dukes, glitter and kisses, bouncing bodies, euphoric hand-holding and hugging, gratuitous booty shots, and matching aviator sunglasses. It’s all so racially and aesthetically homogeneous and forced, so hyper-feminine, so reductive and objectifying, so Stepford Wives: College Edition. It’s all so . . . unempowering.

That column by A.L. Bailey resulted in a statement by the university condemning the video, which Alpha Phi took offline:

A video promoting the University of Alabama’s chapter of a largely white sorority has been taken down after being widely criticized online for its portrayal of women and for its lack of diversity. . . .
A statement from the school’s associate vice president for university relations, Deborah Lane, said that the video “is not reflective of UA’s expectations for student organizations to be responsible digital citizens.”

Dear God, has it gone this far? Has political correctness reached the point that it’s wrong for Alabama sorority girls to be pretty?

“Is this even America anymore?”

Feminism has gotten completely out of hand. You know damned well that if Alabama had a Muslim sorority where all the girls wore burqas, A.L. Bailey wouldn’t say a word. If Alabama had a pagan lesbian sorority, A.L. Bailey would never complain. But pretty white blonde girls having fun in daisy duke shorts? This is “objectifying”! This is not reflective of the university’s expectations: “No more fun of any kind!”

  1. The progressive agenda is funded by big money. There is nothing grassroots about it. It is the result of hypocritical billionaires with a self-proclaimed “social conscience” and politicians with an agenda (who are also lobbied by this same money).

Logistics is key. Somehow the Astroturf machine needs to be deprived of all this money. Do that, and the progressives have nothing.

  2. Apparently it was too white, and that’s beyond the pale.

SJWs always double down, so I guarantee that they’re going to push “everyone else except whites can prefer people like themselves” until there’s a race war.

  3. Actually they know exactly what buttons to press to cause the outrage they need. A single sorority is inconsequential by itself, but the SJWs, and those that fund them, need some cause to be angry about, to build and keep their own following. Right now, it is bitter anti-sexual feminists.

They prey on people who want to throw themselves at some greater cause, or are envious and want to bring down others.

The key to defeating them is to either destroy the financial infrastructure of the Astroturf machine or to discourage people from taking the bait.

They need anger and outrage. Starve the beast. Be yourself. Do not join a cause or hate some other group because some influential person or group does — or more importantly — tells you to. Encourage everyone to do this.

  4. 1. my analyzer is stuck on “literal” today. Getting through to me today will be a challenge. These thoughts are intrusive and your efforts are appreciated.

    2. I’m still @ work and I feel badly for the contractor’s superintendent. That’s a feeling; you could call it empathy. So, I am aware of an internal state; but perception of internal states is not the same as perception of the self. I experience empathy but empathy is not my identity. I still maintain that the self, lacking “thing-ness”, is not directly perceivable, and what we call “self-consciousness” is therefore anything but.

The self is a forest; self-consciousness is an analog or map.

    3. I think your mirror analogy is more tortured than my box/bowl/container. When you look in a mirror, you don’t see your self; you see the mirror and your reflection in’t.

I don’t believe consciousness of consciousnessis even a thing; it’s the result of an equivocation (conflating consciousness with awareness, for example) or some other abuse of language.

    4. Did your limited and flawed organ concede the point that it is incapable of analyzing its own process and cannot in anyway perceive itself?

  5. DM’s Rule 5 post would include photos of young men in suits and ties holding a door open for tastefully dressed young women. And of children giving up their seats on buses to ladies and the elderly. And young adults treating their parents with respect and consideration. And people chatting amiably at a restaurant table with no iPhones in sight. And teenagers turning that damn loud thumping music down without being told. And a gay couple going to a different baker for a wedding cake so as to not offend the sensibilites of a Christian with sincerely held beliefs. And finally, a politician bowing to the wishes of his constituency.

If indeed there is any evidence whatsoever of these things happening. And if there were, it would be the one and only DM Rule 5 post, because that would use up all the available pictures.

  6. Odd that there is no comment on the “diversity” of the AKA chapter at UA. Had those fine ladies made this video, there would not have been a peep.

‘Bama is 87% while and 55% female. The ladies appear fairly representative of the student body to me.

Ms. Lane appears cowardly and dedicated to the concept of preemptive surrender.

I suspect these fine ladies would be welcome at Auburn. War Eagle!

  7. But feminazis demand conformance and adherence to the party line.

You are free to obey them completely and utterly, or be destroyed.

These young ladies dared otherwise. Unacceptable to A.L. Bailey and her ilk.

  8. Save your moralizing for something you have actually seen.

Are you always this pompous or is today a special day?

  9. Just driving the point home before I give it a good-night kiss on the doorstep. (No, I don’t know where I was going with that either.)

  10. The trustees need to sack Ms. Lane, re-hire her, and fire her again. Preferably from the muzzile of a six-pound Napoleon or a 3″ Parrott rifle.

  11. This entire thread is confusing to me. Why can’t we ever, like, solve some physics equations on this site? : )

  12. Late to the party, but there is a movie coming out that is probably the lowest moral vaccum you will ever see.

    (1) Tomlin plays a cantankerous lesbian poet grieving her partner who goes on a road trip with her teenage pregnant granddaughter to find the cash for an abortion.

    Words fail.

  13. Actually, my best subject was economics. I just got a degree in math because according to economics, I had a competitive advantage in math due to most people hating it. 😉

  14. Never apologize to SJWs. Never agree with them.

They call you nasty names? “You’re racist, sexist and homophobic! Muh soggy knee!”

So effing what? “That’s your opinion, and I don’t care.”

  15. I cannot think of any way to stop the billionaires until they force us all into a corner where it’s either snipe them or lose our way of life. And then someone, somewhere, will get mad enough to do it.

  16. I’m guessing by “largely white” they mean that the sorority does, in fact, have minority members and not that it’s made up of large white girls.

So do a new fun video and give the not-blond girls extra time with their aviator glasses and Daisy Dukes and bouncy sunny-ness. The feminist scolds would still get their granny panties in a bunch, but it would spike the ability of the university to pretend it’s about a lack of diversity.

  17. I’m in my last semester at UNM… just started Monday. Realistic hair color is not a given. The black girls with blond hair are not trying to be “blond” any more than the white girls with electric blue hair are trying to be… whatever. Hair color is something to have fun with. A young friend of mine showed up this week with normal colored hair… it was almost shocking. In any case, the problem seems to be fun. Fun is not allowed.

  18. Well, I think that was an accurate assessment. : )

I wanted to be an art major, but then I contrasted career and salary options between art majors and STEM majors. I thought I could keep doing art on the side, but now I’m too busy working at STEMy things. But my creativity has served me well, so at least there’s that. Plus, it freaks people out when a nerd can talk eloquently about art, music and theater at dinner parties.

  19. EBL doesn’t do soup. She does sweet timothy hay from Washington state, though. And a nice salt lick.

  20. I prefer:
“Alas, I am not required to be what the voices in your tiny overheated little head claim.”

    😉

  21. “This is not a controversial political idea, except for feminists who hate pretty, popular girls having fun:”

No, they hate these pretty girls for not wanting to have fun with THEM. 😀

Nothing like a little sexual frustration masked as politics.

  22. They are wrong in this case.

WATCH the video. As a female, I see it as a very attractive recruitment tool for girls who want to be a part of a sorority.

In the days when Kim Kardashian’s ass is better known than she is, this sorority video is almost innocent.

  23. “I didn’t click it because I knew what it would be.”

In other words, “I didn’t want to watch it so I could judge it based on my preconceptions.”

As a woman I am appalled at you.

  24. Well, it would be if I included pictures of sweet, sweet timothy hay and bluegrass!

On our farm, we didn’t eat hay-eaters; we either used them for work (equines), milk (cows, goats, sheep) or magical mystery poo (rabbits, cavies). It sounds weird to some people, but I believe that someday God will reunite us with certain members of our households, and I think that includes our pets (which included the above). I loved them. Some might mock me, but that includes horses, cows, goats, sheep, rabbits, guinea pigs, and even my cats and dogs, because why wouldn’t He? I loved them, and they for sure loved me back.

  25. But as a woman, I kind of agree with him. I was disappointed that girls use their bodies to attract attention.

Sure, it’s the way things are, but I still think that’s sad.

On the other hand, it was well done, and I have to give the dudes snaps for that. But on the other hand, it’s secular and worldly. If you’re into that (and I’m not judging you if you are), then, I guess, good for you, but the children of God are not into that, so I’m kinda bummed for those girls.

    I’m just sayin’.

  26. OK. I have a lot of respect for you Bob, and I read COTS frequently (though I don’t comment because it’s not Disqus and also because I have nothing really to add). So understand that there is no disrespect intended here. But.

Catholic doctrine is about purgatory (unbiblical), Marion worship (unbiblical and blasphemous), replacement theology (unbiblical), the Pope as Christ’s representative on Earth (unbiblical) and the attendant Papal encyclicals that are, lately, breathtakingly unbiblical, so, obviously, I’m not Catholic and never will be.

Many Catholics that I share my concerns with agree with me. I’m not 100% clear on why someone would disagree with Catholic doctrine, yet still be Catholic. However, only God can read hearts and thoughts (in Psalms, but I’m too lazy to look it up), so I won’t judge.

So understand my reticence in applying any benefit of the doubt to those I consider…well…heretics, and this includes probably, minimum, 50% of Protestants (and that percentage is generous). Although I do, absolutely, believe that there are Catholics who are saved.

I just want to get that out forward-going, not just for you, but other Catholics here, of which I know there are many. Though sometimes I think I stand only with QM on the sufficiency of Biblical Scripture.

Having said that, your guy (I won’t even attempt to type his name) once said, “Who is secure in all his basic needs? Who has work, spiritual care, medical care, housing, food, occasional entertainment, free clothing, free burial, free everything? The answer might be nuns and monks, but the standard reply is ‘prisoners’.”

Which I think is both correct, but also funny as hell.

  27. They are young and beautiful and enjoying themselves. Life is short and old age and gravity are not kind. Let them enjoy themselves now.

  28. Some folks are uncomfortable with scantily-clad people. I’m one of them. Evidently, so is llion. So what? Why is that pompous? Why are he and I not entitled to an opinion?

  29. The feminists are azzholes. However, I don’t call the video tame. I call it immoral; or at the least, inappropriate. But that’s my opinion, and I don’t force it on people. But I do state it, as apparently llion does, too. But if people want to act inappropriately, I can’t stop them, nor do I want to, ’cause this is a free country at the moment. Nothing wrong with that. [shrug]

  30. *Gasp!*. Vox has a new book coming out? I love him! Metaphorically. Gonna get it. No spoilers now…I have to finish the book I’m reading first before I start the new one. 😀
