Friday Fiction: 100 Word Challenge

One last dip in the road separated Korban and his troops from Korbill Tower, highlighted by the moon on the hill.
They were far enough up a side valley from River Myzods that the rolling countryside was untouched by disaster.
As they passed a copse on the right side of the road, a bat-like thing took flight, briefly highlighted against the moon.
That was no native bird. They knew.
So much for time to rest and heal. Hopefully Zygiell’d had survived and would rally here. The kingdom was broken, and he had no plan beyond “Kill orcs.” Which was insufficient.

In a haze from ‘medical marijuana’ bought to treat his non-existent glaucoma, Rochester bent his eye upon the painting on the wall of Versailles. The tour guard harrumphed next to him, and a discreet handshake, not taking one iota of vision from the moon over tower, and a hundred francs transferred hands, and bought five minutes.
“You will not succeed in stealing it, m’sieu.” The guard laughed. “I know your type.”
“But I will.” Rochester replied with a thin smile. He languidly waved the suddenly frightened guard away.
“Four minutes.” The man snarled, willing to commit treachery for such a small sum. Rochester had committed treacheries, but only for large causes.
And then the Moon was in the window behind him, and there was an almost audible click inside his head as the gears of the universe meshed for just a second. Without hurry, but without waste, Rochester spun about, mounted with one stout leg to the window sill, and leapt out.

Four stories below him, a stone paving awaited, and to the eye of the Unseeing, they would see him die. But to the Magi, they saw the World crack open, and the Road, the Endless Road open before him, and at the end of it was the Tower of Time which Rochester would soon claim, after he slew Father Time.

The super moon rose in the distance as the man and the little girl stumbled and hobbled down the dirt road. Behind them lay the death and destruction that the Martian Walkers brought. The defense league promised to stop them this time, unlike a century ago when no one could stop them. This time though the extra-world aliens were ready. That didn’t matter to the man and this eight year old girl he rescued from the city. All that mattered was finding shelter for the
night and some food. However, the miles of now moonlighted fallow fields seem to taunt them.
