College Campus Cop Tells the Truth About ‘Rape Culture’ and Gets Fired

Saying Things No One Is Allowed to Say in 2015:

The campus police chief has been fired at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, in Georgia, after he was quoted in the student newspaper as saying that most sexual assaults are not rape but “women waking up the next morning with a guilt complex.” The chief, Bryan Golden, was dismissed on Friday, according to The Tifton Gazette.
Chief Golden was quoted in an article in the student paper, The Stallion, about sexual assault on college campuses. The full quotation was: “I might sound insensitive, but I’m not. Most of these sexual assaults are women waking up the next morning with a guilt complex. That ain’t rape, that’s being stupid. When the dust settles, it was all consensual. It [forcible rape] doesn’t happen here. It doesn’t show up here. They’re about as much a rape as a goat roping.”

Chief Golden contested the accuracy of the quotation, but without regard to that issue, is he not allowed to speak on the basis of his own knowledge and experience as a law-enforcement official?

What Chief Golden said — however awkwardly he phrased it, or how accurately he was quoted — is reflected in case after case we have seen in lawsuits filed against universities by male students who say they were wrongly accused of sexual assault. In most of these cases, the story is very similar: College boy and college girl go to a party, where both of them get drunk, then go back to a dorm room and have sex; subsequently (sometimes several months later) college girl reports that this hookup was rape, an accusation that college boy denies. Almost always, it is a “he-said/she-said” situation, with no corroborating evidence, and college boy finds himself expelled as a result of a Title IX procedure in which he is denied the due-process rights that would be guaranteed to any common criminal in a court of law. Robert Tracinski has observed: “Dubious claims about ‘rape culture’ are an attempt to create an all-purpose scapegoat for the emotional dark side of promiscuity.”

So-called “pro-sex feminism” helped turn college campuses into a carnival environment where it was taken for granted that young women were eager to engage in drunken hookups. For years, college girls have complained about the death of romance on campus. Old-fashioned “dating” and other more traditional relationship patterns were replaced by casual sex and “friends with benefits” arrangements, but young people who complained about this were mocked as puritanical prudes by feminists who denounced Judeo-Christian morality and advocated selfish hedonism. In recent years, the emotional costs of this porn-influenced culture have become impossible to ignore. Rather than admit their own complicity in the psychological damage that this “pro-sex” mentality has inflicted on vulnerable young women, however, feminists instead blame young men whom they accuse of creating a “rape culture.”

Chief Golden tried to explain the reality that feminist rhetoric has obscured. Contrary to what has been claimed, there is no “campus rape epidemic,” but there does seem to be an epidemic of Morning-After Guilt Complex that feminists are seeking to exploit for political purposes. Prominent feminist leaders (including Jaclyn Friedman and Jill Filipovic) do not even try to hide the fact that they are refining “rape” and “consent” in such a way as to criminalize normal sexual behavior (see “Moving the Goalposts: What Feminist ‘Rape Culture’ Discourse Is About”). Every heterosexual male student is subject to expulsion if any female student should ever complain about his behavior. Ashe Schow, who has covered the “rape culture” hysteria as extensively as anyone, has warned that students “need to stop viewing sex merely as pleasure or as an expression of affection or love, and begin seeing it as a potentially life-ruining moment.” Nothing can protect young men against this threat, except completely avoiding female college students.

The Sexual Revolution is over, and sex lost. Chief Golden is just collateral damage in feminism’s War Against Human Nature.

  1. “Regret does not mean it’s rape.”

I lost track of where I saw it, but it’s the best way to describe this mess.

As long as there is no due process, there is no way to find truth.

  2. Alas, there are still those who’ve not received the memo: Objective Truth does not exist. It is what we say it is when we say it.

Of course, our current society is such that such a patently absurd statement can be made with straight face.

  3. Obviously the police chief thought that he could throw the truth out there without repercussions from the idiotic leftists and their psuedo war on women rhetoric.

  4. Here’s the latest in a growing litany of exercises of real power by the Left, and yet some people seem to think they’ve reached their peak. The only evidence I see is an explosion of raw power that’s only going to get worse.

Exposing them doesn’t seem to have the slightest effect. Defeating them rhetorically doesn’t work either.

What’s left to do? How can you fight a war of ideas when one side thinks the definition of ‘conversation’ means “you sit there and listen to me scream at you”?

  5. Feminists absolutely refuse to admit that false accusations happen. It doesn’t matter so much what the percent of false accusations is. I’ve seen different estimates, but if it is 1-in-25 or 1-in-15, the fact is that sometimes women DO lie about rape, and feminists do not wish to acknowledge that fact. Moreover, in a campus climate where feminists have whipped up a frenzy of fear and hate, we may presume that students are more likely to make false accusations, perhaps because they sincerely believe that any sexual encounter is rape if they feel bad about it afterwards. Because nearly all of these cases are “he-said/she-said,” it is very difficult to know exactly who is telling the truth in any particular case. However, it would seem to me, college students can avoid this problem simply by avoiding the kind of situations where these claims most often arise. Alcohol is a factor in at least half of campus sexual assault claims. Therefore, STAY SOBER! But merely to advise sobriety is considered “victim blaming” by feminists, which is why I keep telling guys NEVER TALK TO A COLLEGE GIRL. Avoid them altogether, because college girls now are apparently so irresponsible they cannot be trusted.

  6. Simple, you do what the republican politicians are doing: call them out on their bullshit. There are far more people who are fed up with political correctness than there are social justice warriors. The problem is, these people aren’t united. They’re going up against a united front of Tumblr morons who attack them 100 vs 1. They do this to 1000 people and suddenly they’ve become 1000% effective.

Vaccines do cause autism. Look at these kids.

  7. As I said, exposing them doesn’t work. Students at other universities are looking at Mizzou and following suit. Brown is the latest example that I’ve seen. More are on the way.

And what good is calling bullshit doing when you have leftists in universities and the federal bureaucracies wielding actual policy and law as weapons? Calling bullshit is fun and all, but that’s just rhetorical.

It doesn’t matter how few SJWs actually are, what matters is the real power they wield. And it’s quite obviously substantial. Lots of bullshit has been “called” and yet people are still losing their jobs and livelihood. The SJWs are directly and indirectly in charge.

Tangible damage is being done here, and we’re way past the point of just “calling bullshit” when this damage is institutionally and culturally condoned.

  8. You should read SJWs Always Lie – the most effective way to combat this behavior is actually through rhetoric, and turning their own tactics back against them. Rhetoric is especially useful because many of the ‘useful idiots’ who serve as stormtroopers for the institutions are literally mentally ill and moreover trained to be so emotionally sensitive that the mere act of hearing a rhetorical counter-argument will cause them to become physically ill and retreat from the battlefield. Rinse and repeat until they are conditioned to behave properly.

As for the ones who form violent mobs, get them on video and then press charges.

  9. The problem is that, as the chief of a police department, he expressed an opinion which could be taken as stating that his department does not take rape claims seriously, thus calling into question the department’s diligence in investigating rape claims.

  10. Campus police, and university administrations should have no part in investigating a felony crime. They’re not equipped or mentally able to do it. When they do get involved due process and a fair hearing are the first to be thrown out the window.
The moment someone accuses someone else of rape, the university should immediately and without exception contact that jurisdiction’s law enforcement to handle. That will 1)Get rid of these unconstitutional kangaroo courts 2)Ensure due process and 3)Cut down on false accusations from women with fucker’s remorse.

  11. I’ve read it. And as I’ve said – it’s not working. People have been pushing back rhetorically against PC for decades and it’s only gotten measurably worse. The problem with it is that it assumes that the other side is listening.

Now you could make the argument that the goal is to convince the fence-sitters and spectators, but again, the gramscian SJW freaks are the ones in control of the institutions and the culture. They’re not vying for power; they are the power.

The other problem with thinking this fight can be won rhetorically is in thinking that the other side is only fighting a rhetorical battle when they’re actually waging total war. They wage it legally, institutionally, culturally, and even violently. And even rhetorically, you’re fighting an uphill battle. You can’t condition a young adult whose method of rhetoric is simply to scream at you without first restraining them in some way.

These people have had a lifetime of conditioning and indoctrination from the total war the Left has waged for decades. A lecture or two, jam packed with reason and facts aren’t going to penetrate a mind conditioned by Critical Theory.

Hell, they don’t even listen; they simply wait for their turn to scream. And increasingly don’t even bother waiting their turn.

  12. Excellent post. What are your thoughts on just standing back and letting the SJW “movement” destroy itself?
I liken this phenomenon to a virus that causes widespread damage and then burns itself out.
    Think that will happen?

  13. He says his comments were not reported accurately. I think we have to ask ourselves, “What did he mean to say?” It occurs to me that he may have been asked to respond to a certain claim (e.g., the infamous “1-in-5” statistic) and his comments were meant to derogate such exaggerations about the prevalence of campus rape. But rather than anyone seeking a clarification, instead he is summarily Borked. Simply put, Chief Golden said the unsayable — that feminists have encouraged college girls to make “sexual assault” accusations in cases which are really just a matter of post-coital regret — and had to be scapegoated and made an example.

  14. Hell if I know. My original question stands – what’s left? I don’t believe this will burn itself out. If history is any indication, we’re headed toward a very dark and ugly place if we leave it alone.

If we don’t leave it alone, I’m not seeing any solution that doesn’t end in another dark and ugly place.

The only thing I do know, is that the current course of action (or inaction) is quite obviously not working.

  15. At its core, Marxism (Feminism is just another flavor) removes the agency of self. All (bad) things that happen to you are the fault of an Other.

The therapy culture feeds this. All of therapy is in the passive voice. A therapist doesn’t care whether the villain in the patient’s story is truly criminally guilty. Everything is focused on the patient’s feelings.

In some of these cases, the woman can give continuous verbal consent, but if she felt as if she didn’t really mean it, it’s rape. This is basically what Lena Dunham’s “rape” story consisted of. She strongly implied that she gave explicit verbal consent, she just wasn’t feeling it.

These cases fall into two categories: (1) Mattress Girl, who was in love with her rapist. Shakespeare knew of the woman scorned angle. (2) Low-status male, she wakes up and fully realizes that even if she had a good time, she’ll be mocked by her friends.

This last is probably the most common in the hook-up culture because a little alcohol and he can be charming and some long conversations while she’s not thinking about what her Womens’ Studies classmates would think of this guy.

I’m surprised race doesn’t get brought up with this scenario. After all, there was that little incident at William Paterson University: http://www.nj.com/passaic-county/index.ssf/2015/02/post_5.html

  16. “Is it okay to rape me now?” she asked the bottle of Jack Daniels.
“I’ll tell you in the morning,” replied the bottle.

If men aren’t breaking rape laws, change the laws until they do.

  17. Progressivism, Feminism and Marxism (but I repeat myself) are religions without God. They have their own orthodoxy and dogmas and the action of firing this police chief is the equivalent of expelling a heretic.

See also: Dr. Paul Church who was expelled from his hospital’s staff for telling the truth about homosexual behavior
and criticizing Harvard affiliated Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s involvement in “Gay Pride” events.

Dr. Paul Church has been a urologist on the BIDMC staff in Boston for nearly 30 years. He is a member of the Harvard Medical School faculty. He has done research on diagnosing prostate and bladder cancer, and has been a frequent volunteer for medical mission projects in Mexico and Africa. He has also spoken before educational and civic groups on the subject of high-risk sexual behaviors.

    Experience doesn’t matter
    Qualifications don’t matter
    Facts don’t matter
    Truth doesn’t matter
Just like Chief Golden, Dr. Church is a heretic to Leftism and must be expelled from the cathedral

  18. Is there a tape of his comments?

That’s one of the problems when you claim you were not quoted accurately; unless there is a tape, it’s your word against the other party’s.

You can tell the truth, because you are a self-employed blogger, and I can tel the truth, because I can retire any time I wish. But when you work for someone else, and do not have the freedom to retire, then no, you don’t always get to tell the truth.

  19. True story. There was a move a few years back to put together a voluntary sexual code of ethics for pagans. I thought I should be involved just to keep things from going too wrong. It didn’t take long for it to get far too complicated for my taste, but I did suggest that we should include something acknowledging that just because someone was accused of rape didn’t mean the rape actually happened. I mentioned the recent Duke lacrosse team case. Well, we talked it over and it got put in. Still pages and pages, but I thought it was a good start.

We took it to a larger group for their comments and thoughts. Guess what ALL the comments, criticism, and eventual flames focused on.

The original group sort of quietly disbanded and all online versions of the code were removed.

  20. No, we’re not.

Another true story. When my family took my stepfather’s ashes to the North Rim (yes, I know it’s illegal), we passed through a part of the forest that had been heavily damaged by fire. My stepsibs were sad because all they saw was all the destruction. I saw the forest making a strong comeback with a lot of new growth.

    Life always finds a way.

  21. It’s absolutely true that university administrations ought to have no role in investigating felonies, but I wouldn’t make so blanket a statement about campus police departments. Nevertheless, if campus police do investigate a felony, they have to interact with the local prosecutor, not just the college administration.

  22. Political lesbians worship their own sexuality. They are waiting for it to return in strength, like a Messiah.

See: Conan, the Garden of Eden and Compulsory Heterosexuality.

  23. It’s mostly inaction because the things that need to be done won’t be done. First thing is end student financial aid. FedGov has no authority for it in the first place. Next thing is give no Federal Money of any other sort to schools that allow their student bodies to act as they did at Mizzou. Third, refuse any dealings with anyone playing the SJW game, and ruthlessly prosecute any law breaking by them. Fourth, pull tax exemptions for any NGO dealing mostly in politics, including the foundations such as Soros has established, and old line foundations like the Ford Foundation and others.
That would be a good start. The thrust can be modified going forward, as well as adding other things.

  24. I have no idea of the origin. I picked it up in Texas after my father was reassigned to Lackland AFB after Germany in ’69. I’ve heard it used across the south since then.
The military has another Goat expression, but it isn’t printable on a family friendly blog like this one.

  25. No. That way lies ghettos and gulags — and since today’s version is demonizing the straight white male, I will do anything to stop it from going that far.

  26. The chief was canned as he was an at will hire. If an officer under a collective bargaining agreement grievances procedure said this, they’d get thier job back without doubt. I have had detectives that investigate sex crimes tell me the same thing so many times it’s second nature. Because it’s the truth.

  27. I wholeheartedley agree. We could probably come up with several more proscriptions on top of those.

But let’s look at the ones you proposed. Precisely how do you accomplish any of the above solutions? Putting aside the political feasibility of some of those, you’re talking about fighting an entrenched gramscian bureaucracy at every single level which is increasingly unaccountable to elected officials.

Then let’s look at the elected officials. What indications has the Republican party given that it would even propose any of those solutions let alone follow through?

  28. What are your thoughts on just standing back and letting the SJW “movement” destroy itself?

Correct….but also this may need a helping hand.

    2. If you are falsely accused SUE the hell out of them.

  29. Truth is an impediment for the ‘Yes Means Yes’ thugs. As Ezra Klein noted with surprising honesty, wrongful convictions are a feature, not a flaw. Not content with absolute power in reproductive decisions, feminist totalitarians are now reaching for absolute sexual power, especially over the sexually timid men who will be targeted and terrorized by these policies disproportionately.

  30. There are several problems with your proposal:

    1. It does nothing to empower campus feminists.

    2. It does nothing to terrorize beta males.

    3. It has very little potential to ruin innocent men’s lives.

    4. It fails to perpetuate female-driven hookup culture because it does not give college girls a bludgeon with which they can punish hookup victims who fail to provide an edifying experience (see #3).

  31. “(1) …the woman scorned angle. (2) Low-status male…”

Yep. Feminism created hookup culture and now feminism intends to foster hookup culture by giving women a Retroactive ‘Rape’ Toolkit™ to destroy the low-status males who are a potential threat to her social status and to destroy the more desirable men who trigger the “hell hath no fury” response.

  32. Chiefs of police who do not make this sort of statement could be taken as tools of the malignant matriarchy who don’t take presumption of innocence seriously.

  33. Chiefs of police really shouldn’t be making statements at all, nor is it the function of the police to take the presumption of innocence; that’s a matter for the courts.

The police must take the evidence seriously, and follow proper procedure in the gathering of evidence; they should never take presumptions when a crime is alleged, but only gather evidence properly when a crime is alleged.
