The Misogyny of Atheist Dudebros and the Godless Misandry of Lesbian Tumblrinas

Sarah is a 20-year-old social work student with a radical feminist Tumblr blog — adorned by a rainbow-colored Wicca pentagram — who hates men almost as much as she hates God:

Overzealous atheists are 9 times out of 10 annoying racist misogynistic dudebros but in my opinion it’s totally justified for same sex attracted people to hate organised religion as a tool that has been used to oppress us for centuries.
Like yes to a certain extent it’s people just using religion to justify their already existing homophobic attitudes, but to say that religion (particularly christianity) doesn’t perpetuate homophobia is just a denial of reality for the sake of not stepping on any toes. F–k anyone’s Sky Daddy who apparently dictates who is and isn’t worthy of dignity and humanity.

That rant caused another Tumblr user to remark that “you really hate non-religious men,” and Sarah further amplified:

Actually I think a very large number of men are already misogynistic and racist and anti-theism is something that attracts men who are already predisposed to those traits because it gives them a sense of power and righteousness as well as a persecution narrative. (Think Richard Dawkins and The Amazing Atheist.)
But you’re absolutely right, the intro wasn’t the point of the post so I’m not sure why you’re ignoring everything else I’m saying in order to focus on how I’m such a big mean man hater.
I find it interesting that all it takes is for me to mention misogyny and I get accused of man hating. You’re reaching buddy.

Sarah’s blog was previously called “lesbolution,” and before that it was “grrrlfever,” but now it’s “frequentlypolitical.” These name changes, we may suppose, indicate the ideological shifts resulting from her increased feminist consciousness. “The personal is political,” as Carol Hanisch said, and studying the Tumblr blogs of young feminists offers a glimpse into the process by which their personal problems affect their radical politics and vice-versa. Sarah’s discourse suggests certain questions:

  1. Is Sarah correct that men like Richard Dawkins embrace atheism because it justifies their own prejudices?
  2. If the need for “a sense of power and righteousness as well as a persecution narrative” inspires men to become atheists, doesn’t a similar need inspire women to become feminists?
  3. Why would a lesbian feminist object to being called a “big mean man hater”? Isn’t feminist ideology merely an elaborate rationalization of such hatred? Indeed, didn’t Carol Hanisch coin the phrase “the personal is political” to justify the agenda of a movement based on mobilizing women’s anti-male rage?

No one at Sarah’s university would ever ask such questions. Academia today is off limits to Christians, who are quite nearly banned from employment in the faculty. The Christian student in the 21st-century university never encounters a professor who shares his faith, for the same reason he never hears a professor speak a word in favor of capitalism, patriotism or heterosexuality. Perhaps not every member of the faculty is a Marxist lesbian, but if any university employee dared suggest that there is anything wrong with being a Marxist lesbian, angry mobs of student protesters would demand that this employee — whether a tenured professor or a janitor — immediately be fired. Academia is now a Temple of the Cult of Social Justice, the major idols of which are Equality, Science and Progress, and whose Sacred Rites of Devotion are sodomy, abortion and treason (not necessarily in that order).

Academia long ago chose sides in the Culture War, and our universities are now actively engaged in the systematic destruction of Western civilization. Bill Buckley tried to warn us with God and Man at Yale, but few heeded the voice of the prophet crying in the wilderness, and the intellectual apostasy has overtaken us. Behold! Now we have “Christian” bloggers on Tumblr who insist that God should bless their lesbian weddings. This blasphemy involves a diabolical phenomenon known as “Side A theology,” a heresy whose original author goes by various names, among them Beelzebub and Mephistopheles.

Well, neither the atheist misogynist dudebros nor Sarah the radical lesbian feminist believe in all that Bible stuff, but they all believe in Progress and at the rate we are progressing now, I think we shall soon reach our destination, at the end of a certain well-known highway that is proverbially paved with good intentions.

  3. It’s hard to know where to insert this comment, so I’ll put it here.

    “Sex” is biological. “Gender” is grammatical/linguistic/semantic or however you wish to put it. The dictionary definition you cite is a (relatively) recent change which was made to avoid pissing off the Progressive sex-warriors.

    Where the confusion lies, is that grammatical gender does not exist in English. It does in other languages. There are different ways of inflecting nouns–in German, there are three. The nouns inflected like the word for “male” are called “masculine:” those like “female” are called “feminine;” those like “child” are called “neuter.” But the grammatical gender of a noun bears no relationship to sexual “maleness” or “femaleness.” The noun for “cake” is masculine. The noun for “weapon” if feminine. If you try to guess a German noun’s grammatical gender based upon how “manly” or “girly” it is, you’ll get an “F” on the exam.

    Progressives have hijacked the word “gender” in order to obscure the line between social convention, i.e. boys playing football and biology, i.e. boys wrestling in the mud. Progressive equate the two in order to argue that there are no differences between the sexes and that but for evil Christianist swine, I’d be wearing that red swimsuit Farrah Fawcett was sporting in that 1970s poster I hid from my mom. The purpose for Progressives is obvious: to destroy objective truth about the differences between men and women and the purpose for their existence. The ultimate goal is to destroy relationships, marriage and the family in order to exert control over the masses.

    Legos and soccer with thirty minutes of “Wishbone” kept my wife sane.

  5. Yes. This is one of conservatives’ biggest weaknesses. We fail to learn how the left is using the language and we let them take control. As painful as it is to go to HuffPo and Tumblr, we have to keep up with the insanity. Today’s left wing insanity has a tendency to become tomorrow’s mainstream thought.

  8. Listen – we’re trying to express what it is this goofball ideology is trying to pass off and we often do it using their lingo. What gay feminism says is socially constructed is the “gender binary” – heterosexuality itself, often expressed as “compulsory heterosexuality.” Queer Theory does not say gender (make-up, lipstick) is merely fake but that the persistent connection between gender and a biological male/female sexuality is. Whether men wear wigs, kilts or pants is neither here nor there. It is whether those are natural outgrowths of masculinity which is the point. Remember, this all started off with a single quote by Simone de Beauvoir in 1949: “One is not born a woman, but becomes one.”

  9. This is very simple: Queer Theory maintains heterosexuality is a fiction; that gender expressions anticipate and precede biological sexuality. We maintain the opposite; that gender follows the natural biological divisions of men and women as heterosexuals who reproduce.

  10. The Holy Grail of political lesbianism is that heterosexuality is a fake ideology constructed by men in order to control and oppress women. In order to achieve this men have institutionalized marriage, differences in dress, and a taboo against incest and homosexuality. Men have falsely encouraged “gendered” language like “him/her,” “girl/boy,” etc. Of course, the idea humans would never naturally use terms which apply to the obvious differences between men and women is a ludicrous lesbian fantasy. This is why you see so many whatever-sexuals say “My pronouns are…” They believe sexuality literally follows from cultural custom and practice rather than nature.

  11. Queer Theory is an unworkable suicide cult that cannot reproduce. It is by definition insane since it is self-extinguishing. Only the binary lesbians hate can produce more lesbians.

    “Maladaptive” is wearing all black and dying your hair black.

    “Looney Tunes” is believing you are another gender entirely, or some combination of genders, or a made up one, then demanding that other people treat you according to the preferences of your fantasy life.

    Fact-free left wing gender dogma — including the psychotic notion that masculine “gender” is simply an arbitrary set of goofy signals — is part of a program designed to destroy the rugged independence of masculinity and replace it with the mewling fecklessness of government-dependent androgyny.

  19. DNA does in fact determine that men and women will signal each other differently. What those signals are in any culture doesn’t matter, just that they are different. And what’s more obvious than being naked?

Of course, the author and subject of the article immediately denounced their readership for “bigotry” and “ignorance.”

  27. The problem with the sequence is that the idiots have been trying to equate gender and sex. Sex is a fact of biology and is as inarguable as the existence of light and gravity. Gender is a grammatical term.

  28. Biology does account for sexual differences (not gender!). Most cultures have a basic way in which sex is approached. For example, every group has work that is regarded a men’s or women’s work. The differences are an outgrowth of the biological differences between the sexes based on physical strength or child bearing. It is only in recent years the morons of the left have fought against this, and in so doing have done serious damage to their societies in fighting this basic biological nature of the Human race.

  29. Whether you recognize it or not, you’ve bought into much of the loony left is peddling. The idea that feminine behavior is not a reflection of their DNA based sexuality has been well debunked. A girl that like to pursue boyish activity is viewed as a “tom boy” and at least slightly defective. Most will grow out of that as their female brain kicks in and begins to reject boyish stuff in favor of the feminine.

    Boys that do the equivalent really get jaundiced looks. My youngest brother has “GI Joe Tea Parties,” and one guy at church warned my parents that if they did put an end to that he’d turn into a queer. By the time we moved to Germany he’d laid all that aside, including GI Joe and went on to pursue a normal teen aged life. Later he went into the Army and became a Tanker, a man among men.

    Like it or not, most of this stuff is hardwired into humanity. The left is fighting it and is simply making themselves miserable as they fail ever more spectacularly as they increase their efforts.

  30. Dictionaries have become less and less useful as the left is allowed to pollute the lexicon and trash long accepted meanings. I don’t go with either of those definitions. I use the time honored meaning of bothy sex and gender that I posted above, and is also posted by RS below.

    English does have gendered pronouns, however. He, she, are two examples.

  32. That’s not common at all. While the cultural filter does exist, human nature is the same throughout the world. It is the one constant in this world. Only the cultural filter differs, but even that does not produce the huge differences you posit.

    My mother used to tell how when I was a little kid, send to fetch her some eggs from the fridge, quite a few of them would end up broken. Then, after she started giving me the empty shells to crush into the trash can, the number of broken eggs greatly declined.

    Confirmation bias? That the fetcher was older and more coordinated? That little boys like breaking thhings almost as much as they like building things?

  45. Look. The distinction between sex and gender could make some philosophical sense, but it’s illegitimate in practice. The whole point is to queerify normal variation within the sexes, in order to force us to let men pee with women.

  50. Because ‘equality’ is impossible to achieve, (let alone define), it requires absolute power to ‘achieve’ it. It is a blank check for those who wish to grab power.
