Well, what is “targeted abuse,” what constitutes “participating” in this behavior, and what are the “rules around” it? Where is the evidence that I have been “violating the Twitter Rules”? Who was “targeted”? What was the nature of the “abuse”? Questions like this multiply, you see, if we can be permitted to ask questions of the arbiters of “Twitter Rules,” but that’s just it: No questions allowed!

“It’s as if the grown-ups left for the weekend,
and the SJW interns are in control.”

This morning, again without explanation, the @SexTroubleBook account — which I created last year to promote my book — was suspended.

Everybody is shocked, shocked!

“Evil preaches tolerance until it is dominant,
then it tries to silence good.”

Feminism is evil. But you knew that, right?

UPDATE: Robert Tracinski at The Federalist:

On Friday, Twitter suspended the account of Robert Stacy McCain, a conservative blogger and dogged critic of feminism, apparently without warning or explanation. This has led, in true Twitter fashion, to protests under the hashtag #FreeStacy.
Only a few weeks earlier, Twitter had announced the creation of a “Trust and Safety Council,” to which it appointed Anita Sarkeesian, a feminist known for denouncing “sexism” in video games, a prominent figure in the Gamergate controversy — and oh yes, a frequent target of criticism from McCain. So it sure looks like the moment Twitter gave Sarkeesian the power to do so, she started blackballing her critics. . . .
[T]he company’s decision to appoint a “Trust and Safety Council” that will be “a new and foundational part of our strategy to ensure that people feel safe expressing themselves on Twitter.” Among a list of organizations described as members of the council are the Dangerous Speech Project, which has produced a set of guidelines for recognizing such “dangerous speech” — a set of criteria so vague and broad that they could encompass anything from the incitement that led the Rwandan genocide to an average afternoon on talk radio. And maybe that’s the point.
Then there is Feminist Frequency, the outlet used by Anita Sarkeesian as a platform to criticize video games for being sexist. Sarkeesian’s critics accuse her of using claims of online harassment to discredit her critics and get them kicked off of services like — you guessed it — Twitter. So when Sarkeesian and the “dangerous speech” types got appointed as Twitter’s speech police, there was reason to think they’re going to turn Twitter into a university-style “safe space” where “safety” is assured by removing advocates of opposing ideas. . . .

Read the whole thing at The Federalist.

UPDATE II: Karl Denninger reflects on how the declining value of Twitter as corporate enterprise may be hastened by their “Trust and Safety” agenda. Do they really want to be the next MySpace?

Linked at Legal Insurrection, Pax Dickinson, a thread at Memeorandum and welcome, Instapundit readers!

Lawrence Person writes:

It appears more and more that Twitter’s “Trust and Safety Council” should be more properly named “Anita Sarkeesian’s Committee To Ban People Who Say Mean Things About Her.”

I blame the public education government indoctrination system. Earlier today I got a phone call from a faculty member at a university (which I will not name) who spent 30 minutes telling me the absolute insanity that now prevails on campus. The students are ignorant of facts, but very certain of their opinions, all of which are liberal, and this is a religion for them. For many years, the public K-12 schools have been promoting a progressive agenda through their curriculum and policies, and children are taught to value intellectual abstractions (i.e., “equality,” “diversity,” etc.) to such a degree that they are incapable of thinking outside those categories. They arrive on campus with minds full of this ideological nonsense, and are unprepared to deal with contradictory facts or opposing arguments. Feminists like Anita Sarkeesian are incapable of defending themselves in a fair debate against a well-informed critic, and so the critics must be silenced. This is why the First Rule of Feminist is, “SHUT UP!”

“Twitter is revealing its transformation
from social media platform to cult.”

  1. First me then Charles C Johnson of GotNews this was no surprise I
Knew that was coming. I got the same thing on account that was locked And most of the liberal goons blocked. So I guess imaginary abuse counts as well
I can’ t see the difference between the old USSR thought/speech control and today’s progressive culture.

  2. It’s Kafka’s playhouse. You, Adam Baldwin, Larry Correia are just guests disappeared off the wrongthink radar, Stacy.

  3. Considering what feminist twitterers are allowed to say about white Christian males, I’m shocked that your account is being treated any differently–well, maybe not.

Perhaps an army of us should get on Twitter and start alerting on the crazy feminist hate speech that is ubiquitous in their posts.

  4. I don’t see what the fuss is. Twitter is going broke. How it got this far is beyond me as I can see no way that they can have a coherent cash flow. All of this ‘Trust and safety council’ rubbish is merely going to accelerate the inevitable crash as the general public realizes that this company is a giant turd.

And the truly hilarious thing is that the left is going to be far more damaged by twitter’s demise than the right. I predict a gigantic mental implosion from them when it happens complete with anguished cries of surprise that such a terrible thing could ever happen.

As for Tracinski, his continual self-immolation since last June over Trump is beyond belief. The man has shown himself as a true cuckservative.

  5. While I can see the utility of twitter for celebs and people who make or report the news, but other than getting news from reporters Iv’e never understood the attraction.

  6. He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you.

  7. In 2012, the Democrats weaponized government in the fight against Republicans. Now, they’ve activated their billionaire army.

  8. Perhaps an army of us should use a different product, instantly turning Twitter into MySpace.

AND we should all be sure to get Twitter’s data mining bots off our computers and devices, so that the only data they have to sell is that of freaks of nature. Then watch Twitter righteously tank, along with Ms. Sarkeesian, in 3…2…1.

  9. As I said the other day, you and others similarly situated are the first salvo. Twitter and Facebook are easy to “police” for the Left. Google can bury search requests with relative impunity. The war against dissemination of information and opinion has only begun. It will get worse.

(Dropped something into the tip jar.)

  10. This is exactly why I don’t use any of those three. They can all metaphorically blow me.

Anything completely controlled by communists is going to suck, by definition.

  11. I don’t tweet, so I don’t know how this works, but how many times can you go back to the well with a throwaway email and fake info for a new account?

If the answer is “unlimited”, then vast boatloads of people ought to create tons of accounts, and tweet conservative content to Sarkeesian et al, 24/7. Twitter should be rendered unusable so that it fades into history’s rubbish bin asap. It was crap from day one.

  12. They can all metaphorically blow me.

Thanks for using the term “metaphorically.” I’m but a naive, Christian-ist, happily married for thirty years male. Your prior comments here lead one to believe you are female. Hence, the anatomical questions posed by the (metaphorical) tossing of the gauntlet, had me flummoxed for a bit.

  13. I use Apple products. One of my biggest annoyances is that a couple of years ago Apple decided to bake Facebook and Twitter into iOS. That’s the operating system used by iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches.

You would not believe how hard it is to turn off the hooks, even if you do not have Twitter or Facebook installed on the device.

I agree with Adam above, Twitter is living on borrowed money. If the stock falls far enough it’s going to crash hard. This may just help bring that about.

It’d be nice if it crashes before November.

  14. I think the only reason I’ve not yet been banned is cuz I haven’t been on Twitter a whole lot lately (because it’s starting to suck as bad as Facebook, and I hate Facebook).
Aren’t there any tech savvy right minded people who can make a viable alternative?

  15. There is absolutely no difference between the old USSR thought/speech control and today’s progressive culture.

This is what we’ll all be looking forward to, starting next year. You and McCain are just on the bleeding edge. Next, fine upstanding citizens, like the staff at Twitter, will have the ability to have someone’s internet access permanently discontinued, thus silencing them and removing their voices from the public square.

This is the goal of progressives everywhere and at any time in history. They are evil people with black hearts. And I don’t care if it’s Hillary who is elected, ot Trump, they are equivalent, they are both progressives, and the end result will be the same. Even if Cruz were elected, totalitarianism would only be slowed down somewhat.

For further information, read Revelation and Isaiah. It’s all there.

  16. I signed up for it recently after Instapundit recommended it. Within a few hours there were a bunch of us there, and then Quitter announced that it was shutting down new registrations and that “conservatives and shitposters” should go elsewhere. Quitter doesn’t want us, but if you got in you can find me using the username Zilla. I’m on FreezePeach.xyz as Zilla also.
    Nice to see you, Rosalind!

  17. Yes, crash and burn, baby! The market speaks.

Once upon a time, Apple was marginally less evil than Microsoft. But not any more. I’m not really sure how these companies resolve the fact of their vast wealth with their communist mindset. Seems like cognitive dissonance to me.

  18. This is typical. Sarkeesian in particular has never, EVER agreed to a debate or made an appearance on a show that wasn’t extremely biased towards her, and McCain has previously been targeted by her for his outspoken criticism of her and the BS artists like her. It comes as zero surprise that one of her first acts was to start silencing her critics.

Comments on Sarkeesian’s YouTube videos have been disabled for years, and even when she appeared on the Colbert report she demanded that comments be disabled on ALL videos of the appearance so nobody could counter her BS. In fact, it still remains literally THE ONLY Colbert Report video with comments disabled.

She has lied and outright manufactured ‘threats’ and ‘hate speech’ against herself during the GamerGate incident, claiming that she received ‘death threats’ that made her run from her home, yet she made a PREVIOUSLY SCHEDULED PUBLIC APPEARANCE the next day and never even attempted to file a police report about it.

She’s been caught outright lying or manufacturing deceptive videos so she can (her favorite tactic is to find a few seconds of gameplay or a single character in 40-60 hours of gameplay in a game and spend 20 minutes whining about how sexist it is).

So it’s zero shock that she’s immediately started silencing her critics. It’s her MO that she’s been doing for years. She’s attempted to get users banned off YouTube for so-called ‘harassment’ before. Their harassment? Calmly and logically tearing apart her juvenile video criticisms piece by piece with no vitriol, simply pure logic and evidence.

Stand by for anybody that has ever criticized her participation in GamerGate to be banned over the next few weeks.

  19. I flummox a lot of people, RS. That’s how I roll. My husband thinks I should just shut up, but probably he only means that metaphorically as well.

  20. We should all enjoy the blog, and copiously hit the tip jar while we still can, because they’re not going to let Stacy blog from the gulag.

  21. Completely off topic for this post. While I think Jonny Ive is an absolute genius, it was a mistake to let him design the whole thing.

The software has gotten more unfriendly and more restrictive. I want to decide how I want the date shown, and I HATE parenthesis in phone numbers. How does one dial a parenthesis?

Physically and engineering wise, it’s still one of the most reliable. But the software drives you nuts.

    Rant over.

  22. The liberals will be bored out of their tiny skulls if the conservatives all go away and stop talking to them.

  23. Dear Mr. McCain,
I am sorry to read that you are barred from Twitter, though considering the “cultural” template those currently in control slavishly follow, it was to be expected (eventually).

Personally, I’ve tried twitter, but never found it to serve a useful purpose.
There are things it does well, such as a waste of time — something it is quite at!

I wish I could give you my twitter acct, but (1) I don’t think it makes sense, since it would be closed lickety-split; (2) I don’t think it makes a technical difference; (3) I don’t have one anymore.

If a real free speech version of twitter opens, please publish it on your board— I would use it out of spite for the sjw.

    Good luck, sir!

  24. “conservatives and shitposters”, you say. Must be why I never received a confirmation email.
    Un. Real.

    Just signed up. Thanks, Zilla.

  25. Dump your twitter account, and never go there again. This is the simplest thing in the world. Do not follow ANYONE or VISIT THE SITE. Period. Get a clue people.

  26. “… Candyland with psychotic toddlers. …”
Just got off the phone with a university professor (I won’t name the university) who ranted for 30 minutes about how crazy her students are now. It’s scary. As if there were a mental-health screening in the admissions process to make sure no sane students are allowed to attend.

  27. So it seems that Stacy could email back each and every time, asking for

    1) a review
    2) the name of the responsible person at Twitter who handles the reviews
    3) answers to specific questions, all framed civilly

As Saul Alinsky said, beat them at their own rules. If the Twits refuse to answer questions, burn them on that. If they do answer questions, keep asking and burn them on that.

  28. Rant is valid. Not that the Apple marketing department or sw designers give a rat’s rear end what you, the consumer, thinks. If only there were such a thing like, I dunno, a free market or something.
