Chicago: 5 Killed by ‘System Racism’ and Semi-Automatic Gunfire, But Mainly …

. . . yeah, it was the semi-automatic gunfire:

A fifth victim has died Saturday following a mass shooting early Tuesday that left three others wounded in the Englewood neighborhood, officials said.
The person, of an unknown age and gender, was pronounced dead at 2:20 p.m. at the University of Chicago Medical Center, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Further details were not made public yet.
Two gunmen burst into the Englewood home early Tuesday and shot eight people — initially four fatally and seven in the head, according to a police report that cited preliminary information.
About 5:45 a.m., officers received a call of shots fired from the second-floor residents of the house in the 6200 block of South Morgan Street on the South Side.
The officers entered the first-floor apartment of the house and found four people all unresponsive with gunshot wounds to the head. They were all in various rooms of the apartment.
The first four dead included 19-year-old Shermetria Williams, 28-year-old Ratanya Aryiel Rogers, 32-year-old Denice “Niecy” Mathis and 35-year-old Blake Lee, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Three of the initial four surviving victims found at the scene also had gunshot wounds to their heads, the report said.
The four included a 23-year-old man shot multiple times and three others with head wounds: a 25-year-old woman who was in critical condition, a 25-year-old man in fair condition and a 41-year-old man in serious condition, the report said.
Numerous .45-caliber and 9 mm shell casings were found throughout the home, the report said.
No arrests have been made in the case, according to Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.

Chicago’s Fox affiliate WFLD-TV reports:

The home where the shooting occurred is owned by a Chicago police officer who is facing a lawsuit by the city that ordered him to provide more security at the home.
The “public nuisance” suit was filed in March 2020 after a man was shot during a party inside the two-story, wood-frame structure, which has a gray stone front and sought “action to abate criminal activity” at the home.
City officials said the suit stalled for more than a year because the officer, Enrique Badillo Sr., couldn’t be reached — even though he works for the city.

So, one of your police officers is the landlord of a “public nuisance,” where people are murdered with shots to the head, and how does the mayor of this great city respond? BLAME WHITEY!

Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Thursday declared systemic racism a public health crisis in Chicago, saying disparities in access to effective and affordable health care, the impact of racism on the mental health of people of color, and the subsequent difference in life expectancy “is literally killing us.” . . .
“When we think about racism, many of us think about it in visible and audible forms, but the reality is the insidious nature of systemic racism has other impacts that are every bit as deep and harmful, but often ones that we can’t see, like the impacts on the psyche and other impacts on our bodies that are just as, if not more deadly,” Lightfoot said.

Question: Has the murder rate in Chicago gone up or down since Lightfoot was elected as the city’s first black mayor? While I hesitate to introduce logic to the discussion — logic is a weapon of the white supremacist heteronormative  patriarchy, you know — it would seem to me that there must be less “systemic racism” in Chicago now than there was under the mayoralty of any of her white predecessors. So how is it that “the insidious nature of systemic racism” is having a more deadly impact now, with Lightfoot as mayor, than under previous mayors?

Let’s quote an expert on homicide in Chicago:

Sirflonia Hurds said her son was shot and killed in April, and it was her second child murdered.
“They shot him right here on the porch, fell over in the yard, shot in the main artery,” said Hurds. “It’s not the white man killin’ Black, it’s the Black killing the Black.”

She’d be a better mayor than Lori Lightfoot.

CORRECTION: I incorrectly called Lori Lightfoot the first black mayor of Chicago, but she’s actually the third. However, she is the first black lesbian mayor, but that’s something else.
