FMJRA 2.0: Missed It By That Much

As I mentioned Thursday, my Senators missed the playoffs by one game, finishing with a record of 78-84 while the Royals slipped into the last wildcard slot with a 79-83 record. I finished second in the Beta division, nine games behind the Twins and seven ahead of the Brewers, sixth overall in the AL. Probably going to take some time this week and crunch the numbers sabermetric style, see who overperformed and who underperformed, who was lucky and who wasn’t, and publish the whole thing on my substack.

I’ve been seized by inspiration (or maybe madness, they’re hard to tell apart sometimes) and begun scribbling a baseball fantasy that I hope has more interesting story and not so much number crunching. Stars an infamous former Yankee turned writer, a former Red Sox slugger filled with fury, a canny third-base coach who finds himself filling the slugger’s shoes, and in supporting roles, a Greek chorus of frat boys and sorority girls in togas, a night watchman at a pork & beans factory, and a slugger who in another time and place becomes GM of the Rangers.
