Democrat Debbie Wasserman-Schultz Recycles ‘War on Women’ Theme

The DNC chairwoman issued a statement on Women’s Health Week in which she evidently presumes that (a) abortion is essential to “women’s health,” (b) opposition to abortion is an “extreme agenda,” and (c) all women think ObamaCare is awesome:

[A]t the state and national level, Republicans have repeatedly taken actions that restrict access to health care for women and families. Yes, they’ve voted more than 50 times to repeal or undermine Obamacare, but their disregard goes beyond even that. Just last week, the RNC passed a resolution that makes their restrictive and extreme women’s health agenda one of their focuses going into the midterm elections. . . .
When the RNC backs extreme policies like that, there are real-world consequences for women. In my home state, Florida Republicans including Gov. Rick Scott are taking constrictions on women’s health to a new level. The state legislature recently passed two new restrictions that will interfere with a woman’s right to make her own medical decisions with her doctor, and instead inserts the GOP’s extreme agenda into these very private discussions . . .
If Rick Scott signs these bills — and I’m sorry to say that I’m confident he will — my home state will be the next in a long line of states to roll back the clock on women’s rights. It is senseless and it is wrong. This National Women’s Health Week, I’m standing with Florida women.

The Progressive Spirit Is Breaking

Michael Goodwin at the New York Post gets it wrong in “The American Spirit is Breaking“:

There are many examples that say our spirit is breaking if not already broken. One involves a Wall Street Journal report that, six years after the housing bubble popped and sank the economy, federal officials want to lower mortgage standards again so more people can buy houses that they can’t afford. Been there, done that would seem to be the logical response, but the idea is gaining momentum because so few people can legitimately qualify for credit that the only way to spur housing growth is to junk the standards.
The same thing is happening in schools. Americans overwhelmingly agree that our educational system, once the envy of the world, is now lagging.

The American notion of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is still chugging along. A century of decay in our self-appointed and vastly over-rated elite has wrought significant debt and damage, sure.

The question is whether the basic “In God we trust” ethic has been catastrophically supplanted by “In the State, its ‘experts’ and the pagan, hedonistic, fruitless, and ultimately destructive pleasures they peddle, we trust, despite repeated backstabbings”.

The effects have been devastating, sure: to go the Apollo moonshot to an appalling President who can’t launch a website, in a mere half-century, is a downer. But my contention is that #OccupyResoluteDesk is not a representative sample. It would be better to argue that the variance across a population the size of America is so vast as to make the notion of an “American spirit” too nebulous to pursue.

I hope that the smarmy blue state Progressive spirit is breaking. There is significant risk that the final Progressive implosion will bury the conservatives in humus. Irrespective of that, the basic, God-fearing “American spirit” has by no means been completely vanquished by the Progressive lust for Hell. Let not your heart be troubled. Pray that wisdom find these Progressives, that they repent, even as we put the heat on them in primaries and elections, and kick their foolish selves out of office.

These Progressives have been lying about the ‘recovery’ for long enough. Lies are tactical, like elections. Truth has a strategic character to it, and is going to outlive these lies. Could take a few years. Have faith. In what matters.

Fret Not: The Clinton/Warren 2016 Ticket Will Fix The VA Health Care Problem

Nobel Prize-winning economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman has long touted the VA system as the epitome of government-run healthcare. “Exhibit A for the advantages of government provision [of healthcare] is the veterans administration, which runs its own hospitals and clinics, and provides some of the best-quality healthcare in America at far lower cost than the private sector,” Krugman claims.


It’s just kinda zany how all of these Socialized programs seem to effect the opposite of their stated intent, shifting from health care to the War on Poverty:

Between 1959 and 1966 — before the War on Poverty was implemented — the percentage of Americans living in poverty plunged by about one-third, from 22.4 to 14.7, slightly lower than in 2012. But, Eberstadt cautions, the poverty rate is “incorrigibly misleading” because government transfer payments have made income levels and consumption levels significantly different. Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, disability payments, heating assistance and other entitlements have, Eberstadt says, made income “a poor predictor of spending power for lower-income groups.” Stark material deprivation is now rare:

“By 2011 .?.?. average per capita housing space for people in poverty was higher than the U.S. average for 1980. .?.?. [Many] appliances were more common in officially impoverished homes in 2011 than in the typical American home of 1980. .?.?. DVD players, personal computers, and home Internet access are now typical in them — amenities not even the richest U.S. households could avail themselves of at the start of the War on Poverty.”

But the institutionalization of anti-poverty policy has been, Eberstadt says carefully, “attended” by the dramatic spread of a “tangle of pathologies.” Daniel Patrick Moynihan coined that phrase in his 1965 report calling attention to family disintegration among African Americans. The tangle, which now ensnares all races and ethnicities, includes welfare dependency and “flight from work.”

So, clearly we need MOAR Programs, until the remaining conservative deadweight falls off and the sun can stagger the Progressive Dawn fully over the horizon.

Can the #Benghazi Spinners Win?

If you’re going to win a spin war, you’re going to need some better answers than “I don’t know.” Lanny Davis, who spent years spinning for the Clinton administration, certainly knows this. I remember Davis’s role in helping shape the administration’s media message on the Lewinsky scandal, and so when Davis was brought in to help do damage control on Benghazi — to try to protect the Hillary Clinton “brand” going into 2016 — this was important: Davis is an experienced professional spinmaster.

Unfortunately for Hillary, when Davis went on the Larry O’Connor radio show, the only answers he seemed to have were, “I don’t know.”

They’re going to have to do better than that. And they will.

We can expect Team Hillary to try and make it seem un-American to ask questions that Democrats don’t want to answer.

 

Vote Sodom/Gomorrah 2016!

You can despise Greenwald all you like, but I have the puke-coming-out-my-nose feeling he’s spot-on here:

How do you feel about the early presidential jockeying?
Hillary is banal, corrupted, drained of vibrancy and passion. I mean, she’s been around forever, the Clinton circle. She’s a f_____ hawk and like a neocon, practically. She’s surrounded by all these sleazy money types who are just corrupting everything everywhere. But she’s going to be the first female president, and women in America are going to be completely invested in her candidacy. Opposition to her is going to be depicted as misogynistic, like opposition to Obama has been depicted as racist. It’s going to be this completely symbolic messaging that’s going to overshadow the fact that she’ll do nothing but continue everything in pursuit of her own power. They’ll probably have a gay person after Hillary who’s just going to do the same thing.

I hope this happens so badly, because I think it’ll be so instructive in that regard. It’ll prove the point. Americans love to mock the idea of monarchy, and yet we have our own de facto monarchy. I think what these leaks did is, they demonstrated that there really is this government that just is the kind of permanent government that doesn’t get affected by election choices and that isn’t in any way accountable to any sort of democratic transparency and just creates its own world off on its own.

And. Still. I. Will. Not. Vote. For. Jeb.

Can we emphasize this point enough for the Vichy GOP? No amount of Hillary Angst is going to get votes for the next Dole/McCain/Romney. Especially if non-reformer #4 is Yet Another Bush.

If you want to impress me, Mr. Bush, don’t run. Show that you care about the country, and it’s not about you, by Not Making It About You. Get together with Sarah Palin, tour the country on the Tea Party Express, connect with the people, and support someone else. Get behind the Convention of States in an honest way that will make the Founders smile as they look down from Eternity.

We’ve got 300+ million people in this country. If the only way somebody who is nominally conservative can win a Presidential election is to bear the name ‘Bush’ (as has been the case since 1988) then just screw us to the wall.

I voted Perot in ’92, and I’ll write in the old codger again before I vote for another Bush. Sure, I’m just the one vote, but I’m far from alone. If the Republican party wants to turn the 2016 vote into a suicide pact, Then So Be It.

Theory 2a: #Benghazi-Bimbo Connection

Referring to Ann Althouse’s post on the Zombie Bimbo Revival, of course the answer is Hillary. Vanity Fair also stands to gain from the notoriety, and those two own 70% of the poll. However, Monica’s story is the kind of thing that has probably been in the can for a while, waiting for its moment. It’s certainly the kind of story that would have to come out as part of the 2016 run, sure. But Althouse thinks it’s mostly to do with Rand:

If it’s in Hillary’s interest to bring back the Monica story, wouldn’t the Clintons have done that in 2008? As Marcus observes, the difference is that Rand Paul — a presumptive candidate in 2016 — “has already raised the question of whether Democrats in general, and Hillary Clinton in particular, should consort with a ‘sexual predator’ like Bill Clinton.” And Lewinsky’s new presentation stresses that she was a consenting adult, that her victimhood came as she “was made a scapegoat in order to protect his powerful position” — whatever that means — and “It’s time to burn the beret and bury the blue dress.” We’re victimizing her if we remember her in the only form we would ever have known about her. So: Conversation over! Unless you’re an abuser. Rand.

I’ll give that a “yeah, maybe”. But really, wouldn’t it seem more useful to have Monica save her mouthful for a tougher target? Should the Clintons get out the cigars so early, when anything could happen over the next two years?
No, it strikes me that, for all the Benghazi email disclosure that triggered the Select Committee seems rather sudden, that too is likely orchestrated (distract from the ObamaCare implosion?) and that Monica is just another layer of damage control. . .


I’m past caring, really. My hope is that this Tower of Babel/Corruption just collapses into itself, so that we can set about clearing away the human debris that miscalls itself our leadership.
