‘Money Is Fungible’: ObamaCare and the Fight to Defund Planned Parenthood

Calling for Congress to pass the Protect Life Act — which would prevent Planned Parenthood from getting funded by ObamaCare — Charmaine Yoest of Americans United for Life said: ““Money is fungible. Taxpayers should not be involuntary donors to the abortion industry and health care workers’ conscience rights must be protected.” (Click here for full statement.)

Nancy Pelosi is going nuts:

“Under this bill, when the Republicans vote for this bill today, they will be voting to say that women can die on the floor and health care providers do not have to intervene if this bill is passed. It’s just appalling.”

And other Democrats are following Pelosi’s lead:

Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) on Thursday charged House Republicans of misogynous motives in bringing up a bill that seeks to limit federal funding for abortion.
“What my colleagues on the other side of the aisle are attempting to do is misogynist,” Speier said on the House floor. “It is absolutely misogynist.”
“This bill goes to the farthest extreme in trying to take women down, not just a peg, but to take in shackles to some cave somewhere,” Speier said.

Hey, remember when Democrats were demanding that we tone down the rhetoric? Remember “civility”? So now Democrats are calling Republicans misogynists who want women to die, or to put them “in shackles to a cave somewhere.”

Civility! If it weren’t for double-standards, Democrats would have no standards at all.

Schadenancy Pelosifreude

by Smitty

STILLTOOHOTANDBAD, KUWAIT–Even halfway around the world, Nancy Pelosi’s policies look like something cooked up by an air-headed, talentless daddy’s girl whose position was bought with a rich hubby’s money.
Sissy Willis on Twitter points to Fox News:

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi’s four-year effort to “Green the Capitol” is officially no-more, having been dumped into an existing energy-savings program on the Hill in a move that Republicans say will save more money, eliminate redundancy and promote collaboration.

In response, some Democrats are crying foul, saying the move reflects the low priority that energy savings is for Republicans.

I don’t know. The reality may differ. But, until proven otherwise by reputable sources, you can safely assume that anything she touched was mostly a kickback scheme for cronies, with some occasional tangible public benefit for appearance sake.
I think that Nancy is a serious runner-up in the Worst American Politican Ever sweepstakes. Certainly someone else’s must have out-sucked her record, but the record she does have could suck-start a B-52, in my opinion.

Pelosi to Dems: ‘Vote Your Conscience’

But Nancy, if they had a conscience, they wouldn’t be Democrats!

OK, beyond the cheap snark, here’s a EuroNews video report, which you may enjoy merely for the narrator’s accent:

Notice that even this lady with the weird foreign accent blames it all on “Republican right-wing Tea Party supporters.” And via Memeorandum and Breitbart, here’s Norah O’Donnell bitching and moaning:

Permit me to suggest that anything that makes Norah whine like a baby is, at some level, a victory. Tina Korbe has a pretty good roundup of the latest at Hot Air.

Nancy Pelosi’s Class-Warfare Rant: ‘We Get the Sacrifice, They Share the Wealth’

San Francisco multi-millionaire populism:

“The budget deficit is an excuse for the Republicans to undermine government plain and simple. They don’t just want to make cuts, they want to destroy. They want to destroy food safety, clean air, clean water, the department of education. They want to destroy your rights. . . .
“[House Speaker John Boehner] has said that between him and the president they have a different vision of America and that’s how come their budget proposals are different. Quite different . . . We get the sacrifice, they share the wealth.”

“We”? We? And “sacrifice”? Sacrifice?

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s net worth skyrocketed 62% last year, to a jaw-dropping $35.2 million, according to financial disclosure forms released [June 15].

What a transparent phony! The great comfort is that she will never — never — be House Speaker again.

BREAKING: Weiner to Resign

It is being reported that Anthony Weiner has told Nancy Pelosi he will resign from Congress.

UPDATE: New York Times:

Representative Anthony D. Weiner has told friends that he plans to resign his seat after coming under growing pressure from his Democratic colleagues to leave the House in the wake of revelations of his lewd online exchanges with women, said a person told of Mr. Weiner’s plans.

UPDATE II: Today is the day:

NBC News confirms that Weiner called Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chair Rep. Steve Israel last night to inform them he had decided to resign on Thursday.

UPDATE III: “The Fall of the House of Weiner,” quoth Instapundit. From start to finish — beginning with the telltale Tweet late at night on Friday, May 27 until confirmation of Weiner’s resignation — this scandal unfolded in less than 20 days.

For the first 10 days, Weiner lied, lied, lied, and the liberals who believed Weiner were wrong, wrong, wrong, while conservatives were right, right, right. In the past 10 days, since Weiner’s June 6 press conference, liberals have tried to forget that their credulity in believing Weiner’s lies, and the idiotic conspiracy theories they proffered in his defense.

Now is the day when Jeffrey Toobin, Joan Walsh and a lot of other liberals must be called to account.

UPDATE IV: Linked by Fausta Wertz and Don Surber — thanks!

A massive Memeorandum aggregation, including a report from CNN’s Dana Bash, whose questions at an impromptu May 31 press conference with Weiner — Worst Press Conference Evah! — provided key momentum for the scandal narrative.

Nancy Pelosi is about to have a press conference in D.C.

UPDATE V: All Pelosi had to say at the press conference was that she was not going to comment on Weiner. And then . . . let’s talk about the real issues! Blah, blah, blah.

Linked by Bob Belvedere at Camp of the Saints — thanks! Moe Lane is in the Gloat Zone:

Nice job reinforcing Andrew’s reputation among the media as being somebody that the media has to take seriously, by the way.

Ed Morrissey notes a Tweet from Luke Russert: Weiner’s Capitol Hill office is shut down and his staff were seen “leaving with their belongings.”

UPDATE VI: Publius at Big Government first broke this story in the wee hours of May 28. And now Publius reports Weiner’s resignation. So it comes full circle.

Weiner will hold at 2 p.m. ET press conference today, but I’ll have to miss that. I’ll be on my way to the airport to catch my flight to Minneapolis to attend the Right Online conference, where I’ll be hanging out with Andrew Breitbart, Herman Cain, Michelle Malkin and many more.

You should hit the tip jar. Three weeks of Weiner? “Combat pay.”

UPDATE VI: Genette Cordova has deleted her Twitter account.

UPDATE VII: Da Tech Guy: “Do you remember when we were told this was a non-story and a Breitbart invention?”

Weiner’s Liberal Support Collapses as Three Top Dems Call for Resignation

The latest revelations appear to have finally tipped the balance against the cybersexing New York congressman:

Three weighty Democratic voices – including Nancy Pelosi – on Saturday called for the resignation of embattled U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner, who has been under fire after admitting to inappropriate communications with women online.
The House Minority Leader, and the chairmen of the Democratic National Committee and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in separate statements called for Weiner to step down.

Just 24 hours ago, Pelosi had refused to speak out. But after police began investigating Weiner’s communications with a 17-year-old Delaware girl, Weiner announced he would “seek treatment” — effectively admitting that he is psychologically disturbed — and then the Democrat leadership said, “Hey, Anthony, you see this bus here?”

Democratic leaders had hoped Weiner would resign on his own, but he refused.
A senior Democratic aide said party leaders have been talking with him throughout the week, and that the coordinated effort to push him out began when he told the Democratic leadership he had decided to seek treatment. The aide said Weiner was informed that the leaders would be issuing a public call for his resignation.
The aide said the statements were released on Saturday to get ahead of the Sunday shows and the return of lawmakers on Monday.

Yeah: In their colleague’s hour of need, his liberal friends were chiefly concerned about . . . working the news cycle.

As Darleen Click says, they’re all “moral fascists” now.

UPDATE: New York Times:

Representative Anthony D. Weiner planned to check himself into a treatment center on Saturday after House Democratic leaders, including Nancy Pelosi, called on him to resign and suggested he needed psychiatric counseling. . . .
“Congressman Weiner departed this morning to seek professional treatment to focus on becoming a better husband and healthier person,” said the spokeswoman, Risa Heller. “In light of that, he will request a short leave of absence from the House of Representatives so that he can get evaluated and map out a course of treatment to make himself well.
“Congressman Weiner takes the views of his colleagues very seriously and has determined that he needs this time to get healthy and make the best decision possible for himself, his family and his constituents.”

Want a textbook definition of “hubris”? Politician admits he is mentally ill, yet doesn’t see mental illness as a disqualification for public office.

Democrats always think themselves fit to govern, even when they’re nuts, zany, daft, bonkers and cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.

UPDATE II: “Ah, the old ‘sex addiction’ excuse.” Beyond the “moral fascist” outrage — which Lisa Graas examines — aren’t we entitled to ask whether a man who succumbs to a dangerous sexual compulsion is fit for high public office? One may be entirely sympathetic to people suffering from mental disorders without believing that we should be governed by them.

Meanwhile, look at the top of the latest Memeorandum aggregation:

The New York Times, CNN, Politico, Wall Street Journal, ABC News, National Review and, further down the page, we find the Associated Press, the Washington Post, etc.

Now, go back and look at the Memeorandum aggregation at 6:35 p.m. on Saturday, May 28. Notice something?

When this story was first broken by Andrew Breitbart’s BigGovernment.com, all these major media organizations weren’t exactly chomping at the bit to be first with the exclusive scoop. In fact, you might say, they seemed rather determined to ignore the story.

And two weeks later, they don’t even make mention of the insignificant right-wing bloggers who beat them to the story.

NY-25 Flashback: Dan Maffei Still Trying to Comprehend His Own Defeat

Perhaps you can imagine the big grin with which I’m writing this, as I think back on that day last October when Da Tech Guy and I arrived in New York’s 25th District and the front-page headline was: “Dan Maffei leads Anne Marie Buerkle by 12 points in new poll.”

That would be former Democratic congressman Dan Maffei, who ended up losing by 567 votes to Republican Ann Marie Buerkle, and who the Politico reports is still trying to figure out how he lost:

As victims of the House Democratic election massacre speak out about what caused their ouster last November, they are pointing their fingers squarely at a Washington duo: Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama.
Then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) moved their party’s agenda too far left during the past Congress. And then they failed to help rescue the party’s mostly supportive lawmakers, two defeated first-termers who have joined Washington-based think tanks said Tuesday.
“Moderates and independents who leaned toward Obama didn’t come out because they saw a continuing polarization. Health reform was only supported by Democrats. So, the message from Washington was that Obama was getting his way,” said former Rep. Dan Maffei (D-N.Y.), who has become a senior fellow with Third Way, the centrist Democratic group.
Party leaders and liberal allies told him that he was too pessimistic last fall when he warned them that he was in danger of losing. Obama and Pelosi “couldn’t bring themselves to believe that it would be this bad,” said Maffei, who unsuccessfully sought a late campaign stop by Obama. “Low turnout was why I lost. My opponent [Republican Ann Marie Buerkle] was seen as fringe and voters didn’t think she could win.”

Look, if Dan Maffei wants to make excuses and scapegoat other people for his own failures, I suppose I ought to just laugh and move on. However, Maffei is actually kind of close to being right about what Obama and Pelosi did wrong. And the weird thing is, Democrats had plenty of warning . . . from me. Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Alternative Reality)

“Not only did Democrats under her Speakership raise discretionary spending 18% in three years, not only did she pass a Pay-Go law and then fail to adhere to it even once, Pelosi became the first Speaker since Watergate to fail to pass a budget resolution for a fiscal year. In 2010, despite having a 77-seat majority in the House, a Senate which her party held by 18 seats, and a Democrat in the White House, Pelosi failed — or refused — to pass a budget for FY2011.”
— Ed Morrissey, Hot Air

Don’t bother clearing your throat before you say, “chutzpah.”

“Democrats have long fought for fiscal responsibility as a top priority of this Congress.”

Anybody remember that fight? Anbody? I didn’t think so.
