Forever the consummate conservationists, our self-described “progressive” friends at the ACLU, MSNBC and elsewhere have been ramping-up efforts to downsize from “consenting adults” to merely “consenting” — a far less cumbersome qualifier in the noble struggle for unrestrained sexual license.
Tolerating “intergenerational romance” for “minor-attracted” adults is all the rage these days.
Ever hear of Kaitlyn Hunt? Over the past year or so this poor, misunderstood lesbian woman’s “anti-gay persecution” has become a cause célèbre among “gay rights” activists and other left-wing purveyors of perversion.
Despite mass rallies and online petitions signed by hundreds-of-thousands of the uber-”tolerant,” the clearly “homophobic” Florida criminal justice system has, nonetheless, convicted Ms. Hunt of multiple felonies for sexually assaulting — repeatedly — a 14-year-old girl. . . .

What you may not have realized is that this is part of a continuing pattern of harassment, smears and intimidation waged against conservatives on Twitter for years. Remember in April 2012, liberals got Chris Loesch’s account suspended — sent to the “Twitter gulag” — as a result of their orchestrated harassment. This activity was supported and encouraged by the same people who, under the hashtag #StopRush, were harassing Rush Limbaugh’s advertisers online.

The connection involved an activist named Melissa K. Brewer who, at the time, was using the Twitter handle @subculturestuff, an account that has since been deleted, but which you can see via RTs of existing accounts, (e.g., April 14, 2012, April 20, 2012,  April 22, 2012) and you might notice the overlap between the #StopRush and #Occupy hashtags:

Melissa Brewer’s @subculturestuff account was an outspoken advocate of this unhinged leftist #StopRush attempt to silence Rush Limbaugh, and then she got exposed as targeting Limbaugh’s Twitter defenders, specifically including Sister Toldjah.

Brewer told #StopRush supporters to pre-emptively block a list of conservative Twitter accounts she accused of being “Nazis” and even suggested reporting them to the FBI! 

Accounts on Brewer’s targeted list included Stephanie Janiczek (@SMjaniczek), @fatdaddybulldog, @sevenlayercake, @Serr8d, @Polliwogette and Darleen Click (@darleenclick). So the same people who were trying to shut down Rush Limbaugh, who has a nationwide radio audience of millions, were also trying to shut down these ordinary citizens with a few thousand Twitter followers.

What followed Brewer’s exposure was familiar to anyone who followed Neal Rauhauser’s 2010 TwitterGate debacle. Brewer deleted her hit list, denied responsibility, and then claimed that she was a victim of online harassment, rather than the perpetrator thereof.

Cowardly lying bullies who hate free speech are predictable that way.

Delete, delete, delete — @subculturestuff is gone, but Brewer’s stuff got screencapped, so that people noticed when Brewer’s @catsrimportant account became involved in harassing Brett Kimberlin’s enemies a few weeks later in June 2012. What was not understood was why Melissa Brewer would support a notorious criminal like Brett Kimberlin, or why she was the source Bill Schmalfeldt contacted (using his since-deleted @LiberalGrouch account) for information on Aaron Walker:

Melissa, I’ll bet you $20 that “the Anon leak” you referenced was, in fact, a conspiracy theory smear written by Brett Kimberlin’s associate Neal Rauhauser, and if you or anyone else can provide me that document, I believe I can prove Neal’s authorship. Rauhauser’s habitual dishonesty, his penchant for using false conspiracy theories to attack his targets, is well-known. (See, for example, “Andrew Breitbart’s ISR Cell?“) For those of us being sued by Brett Kimberlin for $1 million — when the activities of Team Kimberlin (including Schmalfeldt and Rauhauser) are part of the allegations in that lawsuit — this kind of stuff becomes highly relevant.

Go here, do a CTRL+F search for @catsrimportant and you will find Schmalfeldt tweeted to Brewer 293 times between June 3-July 2, 2012.

Highly relevant, as I say.

So, to recap: The same Melissa Brewer who was part of the hateful #StopRush boycott effort to silence Rush Limbaugh, the same Melissa Brewer who was part of the hateful effort to silence @SisterToldjah and other conservatives on Twitter, this was the Melissa Brewer who claimed to have an “Anon leak about people being PAID to blog about Kimberlin,” and this same Melissa Brewer was communicating multiple times daily with Bill Schmalfeldt, who has harassed Aaron Worthing, Ali Akbar, Lee Stranahan, Patrick “Patterico” Frey, John Hoge and others. That was at the time Stranahan was pursuing harassment charges against Schmalfeldt. It has been alleged by Kimberlin Unmasked that Melissa Brewer is “Xenophon,” who has published multiple attacks on Team Kimberlin targets. And guess what? Kimberlin Unmasked also is a defendant in the Kimberlin v. Walker et al. lawsuit. Now, after all this, Melissa Brewer has posted a long article with this headline:

Because I suffer from PTSD, my writing career is part-time, and I’m fine with that. Sometimes I take a part-time job or temp work, when the going gets tough. But again, I’m fortunate, and I tend to get by on the residual royalties that I make from online publishing.
I’m not brilliant, rich, or famous. I’m good at social media, and I am sometimes a really good writer.

The only reason I have ever written on politics was to have a voice. . . .
Nobody has ever paid me to blog or Tweet anything political. I only write under my own name, because I want to own my words, because I find it empowering-especially now that the ex that I had a restraining order against is now in jail, and probably going away for a significant amount of time.

If it is true, however, that you have never written except under your own name, why were you suspected of being “Xenophon”? Why were you assisting deranged cyberstalker Bill Schmalfeldt in his unconscionable harassment of Lee Stranahan and his family?

Why, Melissa Brewer, did you join Team Kimberlin? Why would anyone defend a criminal monster like Brett Kimberlin?

So now, denying that you ever wrote about politics for money, and denying that you ever wrote under a pseudonym, you tell this long tale of what a pitiful victim you are, soliciting sympathy for yourself, so that anybody who now suspects you of lying can be accused of lacking sympathy for victims of violence and abuse.

Because . . . feminism.

Well, I’m getting sued by Brett Kimberlin for $1 million, so perhaps you’ll excuse me if I’m a little short on sympathy just now.

You tried to silence Rush Limbaugh.

You accused Sister Toldjah and her friends of being Nazis.

You told your friends to report conservatives to the FBI.

You sought to destroy innocent people on behalf of Brett Kimberlin.

And yet after doing all this evil, you are the victim? Let me check . . .

Nope. Sorry. My give-a-damn’s busted.

What’s a synonym for “prostitute,” Melissa?

Andrew Klepper, 19 of Bethesda, has been charged in conjunction with an alleged act of prostitution.
On May 15, a Montgomery County police officer saw an advertisement in the Erotic section of Craigslist.com. He contacted the woman in the advertisement, Melissa Brewer of Reston, Va., and arranged to meet, according to charging documents.
The documents further state that Brewer quoted a price of $200 per hour for a “full service” appointment. The term “full service” is understood to mean sexual intercourse, according to the documents.

Yeah, $200 for “full service,” and you were advertising yourself on Craigslist under the name “Lisa,” but you’ve never been paid to write about politics and never written under a pseudonym?

We should trust you, because you’re mentally ill. And a prostitute.

Liars hate the truth.

And the truth they hate most is the truth about themselves.

Term Limits: Up The Bar

Everybody loves to hate every other district’s and state’s incumbent Representatives and Senators. I also find it hard to like my own, but ‘Gentleman’ Jim Moran is just his own special snowflake. Seniority matters, and informs just how much pork a politician can bring home. Thus, mounting a primary challenge to an incumbent is voting against local short-term interests, for all purging corruption is certainly a global, long-term Good Thing.

Whattayagonnado? Term limits are a brutally simple, readily verifiable tool for ensuring turnover. At the same time, you’re telling people they can’t vote for that one exceptional politician who, in contrast to the others, isn’t a pus-laden bag of fail.

One parameter that could be massaged to find some middle ground here is the margin of victory. If re-election to a seat took an additional, cumulateive percentage of the vote, say 3%, then politicians could still win re-election, but have to demonstrate worthiness to do so.

Given VA-8 as an example, Jim Moran took 61.0% in 2010. In 2012, he took 64.6%–so far, so far. The proposal here is that, to continue to clutter the U.S. Congress with his debris-like presence, he should require 67.6% of the vote in 2014.

There are any number of variations on this theme:

  • the bar starts at 50% with initial electoral victory,
  • the accumulation rate/amount,
  • only do it for primaries, &c

The real point of this post is that our current quasi-aristocracy needs revisiting.

Time Enough For…Anything

Time travel science fiction tends to come in two flavors: conventional time travel, in which the heroes journey into the future or the past, and the parallel worlds type of story where there are multiple alternate time lines which can be travelled to. Keith Laumer did both; in Dinosaur Beach, his hero is a member of the Timesweepers, a group trying to clean up the messes left by previous time travelers, while in Imperium, Brion Bayard fights an alternate version of himself who threatens the destruction of the Imperium. Larry Niven, on the other hand, treats time travel as an impossibility in Flight of the Horse to comic effect, while its sequel Rainbow Mars is considerably darker.


Authors don’t always explain the details of how their heroes wind up in the past or the future. We never do find out how Asimov’s retired tailor from Pebble in the Sky winds up in a post-nuclear Earth, or how the feckless protagonist of Ward Moore’s Bring the Jubilee fumbles his way back to the Battle of Gettysburg to cost the South the Battle of Gettysburg – and the war. In contrast, Dan Davis in Hainlein’s The Door into Summer uses cold-sleep twice and an experimental time machine to make his life turn out the way it should have after his unfaithful fiance shanghais him into the future. Elsewhen, Lazarus Long travels back to pre-WWI America to meet his family in Time Enough for Love with nearly fatal results, but as the filk song concludes, “Nothing wrecks this Oedipus!”


On the other hand, some authors rejected the very notion that you could change the past. Alfred Bester’s nearly-forgotten classic “The Men Who Murdered Mohammed” (collected in Virtual Unrealities: The Short Fiction of Alfred Bester) introduces what has come to be known as the concept of “quantum time” and its consequences for would-be meddlers. Fortunately, Poul Anderson and H. Beam Piper paid no attention to this and created separate law enforcement agencies to guard the time stream: Time Patrol and the previously mentioned Paracops of The Complete Paratime.


More recently, Harry Harrison and Harry Turtledove address the notion of present-time people going back to aid the Confederacy in A Rebel In Time and The Guns of the South, while Connie Willis’ considerably more depressing Doomsday Book sends a graduate student back to medieval England just in time for the Black Death. On a lighter note, there’s Leo Frankowski’s The Cross-Time Engineer, in which Conrad Schwartz winds up in 13th century Poland and resolves to save it from the Mongols. Its spiritual ancestor, of course, is L. Sprague DeCamp’s Lest Darkness Fall, in which Martin Padway takes it on himself to save the Western Roman Empire and its Gothic rulers from Justinian and Belisarius – and itself. Connie Willis can also do humorous time travel, as can be seen in To Say Nothing of the Dog.

Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) spokesman Floyd Lee Corkins II did not issue a statement denouncing this weekend’s Family Research Council (FRC) Value Voter Summit, mainly because Corkins is in federal prison serving 25 years for his Chick-fil-A-inspired attempt to kill everybody at FRC with the guidance of an SPLC “hate map.”

With one murderous deviant lunatic safely behind bars, another flaky weirdo was authorized to speak for the SPLC terrorist gang:

“Public officials need to know the real ‘values’ they’re endorsing when they attend the Values Voter Summit,” said Heidi Beirich, director of the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Intelligence Project. “Offensive and bigoted lies are not magically transformed into the truth just because a group with the word ‘family’ in its name keeps repeating them.”

Translation: Don’t hang around people we call bigoted extremists, or one of our crazed gay killers might shoot you because . . . tolerance!
