SHOCKING ALLEGATIONS IN KIMBERLIN V. KIMBERLIN

Posted on | July 29, 2013 | 87 Comments

ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND
Last night I told readers I was going on a road trip to cover a big story — but I didn’t tell you how big it was going to be:

Brett Kimberlin, the convicted bomber-turned progressive activist, had sex with his wife when she was only 15, according to charges filed Monday in Maryland. A native of Ukraine who is now estranged from her husband and seeking a divorce, 32-year-old Tetyana Kimberlin says she had sex with Kimberlin multiple times during her 1996 visit to the United States, before she turned 16, the legal age of consent in Maryland. . . .
At the time of the alleged offense, Kimberlin was on parole from federal prison for a 1978 bombing spree that terrorized the Indianapolis suburb of Speedway. . . .
In accusing Kimberlin of a third-degree sex offense, Tetyana says she met him when she was 14 and living in Ukraine, where Kimberlin traveled on business after his 1993 parole. In charges filed Monday with the Montgomery County District Court, Tetyana says she was 15 when she arrived in Maryland in September 1996 and that Kimberlin, who was 42 at the time, had sexual intercourse with her repeatedly before her 16th birthday in November of that year. . . .
[A]ccording to the charges filed Monday, Kimberlin “enticed me to come to Maryland so I could be his sex partner and bride,” Tetyana Kimberlin wrote. “Brett Kimberlin had sex with me every single day between the day I arrived and the day I turned sixteen, on Nov. 16, 1996.” Tetyana wrote that her cousin, who was 12 at the time, “also met Brett Kimberlin in Ukraine and coae to live with him … shortly before I did. On at least one occasion, I saw him attempt to seduce her.” . . .

Please read the whole thing at Viral Read.

You’ll also want to check John Hoge’s coverage of the story. Kimberlin has provided forged Ukrainian documents to claim Tetyana was two years older. But if you know the story of Brett Kimberlin, you know that forging documents was how he got caught for the Speedway bombings.

If you contributed to the Shoe Leather Fund for this road trip, I hope you feel like you got your money’s worth.

And if you haven’t contributed yet, remember that the the Five Most Important Words in the English Language are still: Hit the freaking tip jar.

UPDATE: Just a little reminder about Brett Kimberlin’s past:

Alas, the girl’s grandmother was shot to death and, while police were investigating that murder, the Indiana town was struck by a series of bombings.

“Kimberlin seemed to be the only one with a possible motive — to distract police attention from the Scyphers murder and delay or halt their quiet investigation of him.”
R. Joseph Gelarden, Indianapolis Star, “Kimberlin case a maze of murder, deceit,” Oct. 18, 1981

If Brett Kimberlin was “the only one with a possible motive,” it’s interesting how he was eventually caught: On Sept. 20, 1978, wearing a fake uniform, Kimberlin was arrested at a print shop where he was attempting to get phony military identification — a federal crime. And when the FBI searched Kimberlin’s car, they found the same kind of blue-and-white timers that had been used to detonate the bombs.
Fake uniform, fake IDs, real evil.

Barrett Brown: Madness Foreshadowed

Posted on | July 28, 2013 | 36 Comments

December, 2010: Barrett Brown explains his
‘informational schematic’ on YouTube.

“I wonder to myself: Where do these trolls come from? Where do they live and breed? . . .
“Many militants are devoid of an essential ingredient of being human: empathy. . . .
“They afford themselves free rein to act out their basest of impulses.”

“Robin of Berkeley,” Dec. 3, 2010

“You might get the idea that Barrett Brown is kind of a moody loner, isolated and alienated, attempting to invent a social context for himself where none exists. And if that’s your impression of Brown, you might find it highly significant that the primary subject of Barrett Brown’s online videos is . . . Barrett Brown.”
Robert Stacy McCain, “Narcissism, Isolation and Trolls,” Dec. 3, 2010

Barrett Brown is now in custody at the Federal Correctional Institution in Fort Worth, Texas, scheduled for trial in September on multiple felony counts that could send him to prison for more than 100 years. Why did no one else see this coming?

“So this reader widget, it works off a human filter of these very erudite people, all together, and provides what should be the best means of obtaining information in existence. “

That is a quote from Barrett Brown’s YouTube “Video153,” in which he rambled on rather incoherently about his plans to gather “very erudite people” to participate in what he called a “schematic.” On Dec. 3, 2010 — that is to say, nearly two years before his September 2012 arrest — I compared Barrett’s incipient madness to that of Patrick Bedell, the schizophrenic Pentagon gunman who got himself shot to death in an apparent “suicide by cop” in March 2010. (See, “Whatever Happened to Crazy?” at Hot Air.) And it is remarkable that now, when Barrett Brown is being celebrated by the Left as a martyr, nobody can be bothered to transcribe this 13-minute video:

Because no one has provided a full transcript — and I’m about to leave on a road trip, so I certainly don’t have time now — the best way I can describe Barrett’s discourse is this: Imagine Wile E. Coyote on Oxycontin, outlining his new super-genius plan to catch that elusive Roadrunner, using Acme rocket skates, 400 feet of rope, an elaborate series of pulleys, two cups of bird seed, and a 95-pound anvil.

We know how this cartoon ends, don’t we?

The word you’re looking for is “grandiose.”

Grandiosity is a term psychologists use to discuss the delusions of greatness that are symptomatic of schizophrenia or, to a lesser degree, the manic phase of bipolar disorder:

Bipolar patients experience delusion during the worse part of their illness. Typically, when experiencing or displaying a stage of heightened excitability, joy, rage, senselessness, and correlated phenomena they might convey thoughts or beliefs that are grandiose in nature. Some of these grandiose beliefs frequently involve thoughts that the patient is very rich or famous or has super human abilities, etc.

In less severe manifestations, grandiosity is associated with narcissism, which is in turn a function of feelings of shame and failure. The damaged ego of the narcissist is unable to cope with failure and overcompensates through a series of rationalizations, including exaggerated and unrealistic schemes to achieve the success (and receive the admiration) he craves. The impracticality of these plans, the yawning gap between (a) the grandiose goals of such schemes and (b) the ability of the person to do what he aspires to do, is significant of the psychological need this kind of fantastic plan serves: A desire for recognition as a superior person, thus to vanquish the feelings of shame associated with the sense of failure.

Barrett Brown is an intelligent person. As a child, he earned praise for his intelligence and was thought to have exceptional promise. But he became a college dropout and a heroin addict, scraping along with meager earnings. He co-authored a book in his mid-20s and discovered that being that grand thing, a “published author,” isn’t really all it’s cracked up to be. Whoop-dee-doo, y’know? It ain’t like you’re a zillionaire rock star with limousines, champagne and showgirls.

This video in December 2010 where Barrett tried to describe his “informational schematic” wasn’t so much a career plan as the symptom of an unhealthy mind tending toward thought patterns that were disorganized and grandiose. Being something of an amateur student of abnormal psychology, I recognized it as such and described it accurately, and now fast-forward to September 2012:

Ask yourself, “Why have Barrett Brown’s admirers never fully transcribed that video rant?” Because it’s haphazard paranoid gibberish, and not the discourse of the hero they want him to be.

It does not matter, really, whether there was anything genuinely newsworthy about the subjects — HBGary and “Team Themis,” etc. — that became the focus of Barrett Brown’s obsessive interest. Other people have written about those subjects without going crazy. And anyone who hails this narcissistic wackjob as a heroic martyr is seriously misguided. Barrett Brown was mentally ill and, according to federal grand jury indictments, a criminal menace.

There is news today: Anthony Weiner’s campaign manager resigned, and people are beginning to ask questions about the thousands of dollars that Weiner’s campaign spent to “investigate” claims that his 2011 scandal was the result of hacking.

“Gosh, who do you think is filling Weiner in on this?” said . . . Neal Rauhauser?

A stalker is terrorizing CNN’s Anderson Cooper, and Bill Schmalfeldt is still crazy, but I’m about to hit the road to cover another story. Could be interesting. Your prayers are earnestly requested, and remember the Five Most Important Words in the English Language are still: Hit the freaking tip jar.

Bill Schmalfeldt Finally Gets His Reply

Posted on | July 28, 2013 | 245 Comments

Bill Schmalfeldt ranting, 2011. (Image via Thomas Anderson at Vimeo)

“I’m disgusted that it has come to this. I thought that Facebook, being an honorable organization that everybody loves, that everybody has heard of, would honor its own terms of service and remove this cancer, this tumor, this malignancy from its own service.”
Bill Schmalfeldt, Dec. 15, 2011

“Just in case you ever entertain the thought that Bill Schmalfeldt might be sane, remember this: When accused of criminal harassment, Schmalfeldt’s reaction is . . . more harassment.. . .
“It’s as if he is incapable of learning anything, or is unable to restrain his insane urges to lash out at the targets of his obsessive rage.”

Robert Stacy McCain, July 19

Every picture tells a story, as an old song says. In 2011, during the Wisconsin recall battle, Bill Schmalfeldt went to war against a Facebook group that was supporting Republican Gov. Scott Walker. The group calling itself “Operation Burn Notice” (OBN) was the subject of multiple posts Schmalfeldt wrote at Daily Kos.

About a Facebook group, you see.

Lacking all sense of proportion, Schmalfeldt’s war against this Facebook group became extremely bitter because, in essence, he began “doxing” the group’s members, publishing personal information about them, accusing them of crimes, etc., as he himself explained:

The cowards behind “Operation Burn Notice” can’t even be SHAMED into identifying themselves. . . .
I have mentioned three names that have been suggested to me as being involved in this OBN effort. I make no such assertions, other than to say every time I attempted to place a redacted version of a picture of these folks, their identities obscured, it was swiftly removed from their Facebook page.
[T]hese freedom-hating slugs . . . are discussing a crime that could land them in jail for 3-1/2 years and cost them $10,000 each.

This war-of-annihilation theme is a pattern in Bill Schmalfeldt’s online behavior and, whenever he fails to achieve his goals, he invariably claims that he is being victimized, that other people aren’t playing fair, and then attempts to play “Internet Cop,” threatening to have people arrested, to get them fired from their jobs, to sue them, to have their various Internet accounts shut down, etc. During the course of his obsessive anti-OBN jihad, Bill Schmalfeldt decided to give a 19-minute Terms of Service (TOS) lecture to Facebook:

Well, you know what they say about karma, right? About five months later, in May 2012, Bill Schmalfeldt put up a genuinely vile rant about anal sex at DailyKos and was banished. (He attempted to get back on DKos last week and was re-banished.)

It’s interesting how this cosmic principle operates: Bad things happen to bad people and, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” The people in that Facebook group whom Schmalfeldt sought to persecute — claiming they were infringing his copyrights, among other things — had nothing to do with Schmalfeldt getting banished from Daily Kos. That was a self-inflicted wound, as such downfalls usually are. Bad people do bad things and get away with it, so they keep doing bad things until that day comes when they don’t get away with it. Thus Schmalfeldt is banned (again) from Daily Kos, while Barrett Brown is in federal custody, facing felony charges that could put him away for a long, long time.

“Pray for Ten Thousand Angels,” I said last November, when Bill Schmalfeldt’s relentless harassment finally escalated to the point that he was threatening to call my wife. That was the first time I ever posted a photo of Schmalfeldt. If you’ve been reading John Hoge’s blog lately, you know that Schmalfeldt filed a “Digital Millennium Copyright Act” notice, claiming Hoge had “stolen” Schmalfeldt’s intellectual property. Schmalfeldt also filed a DMCA notice with our web-hosting company, which is now handled through Ali Akbar’s Pundit Syndication LLC. This is being dealt with appropriately. (Click here to read Ali’s reply.)

Bill Schmalfeldt being who he is, however — which is to say, a deranged cyberstalking troll — has been ranting and raving on Twitter, demanding that I personally take notice of his nuisance claim.

So I decided that it was finally time to reply to e-mails Schmalfeldt sent me months ago. Five thousand words. Enjoy. — RSM Read more

Whatever Your Problem Is, ‘Vote Democrat’ Is Never the Solution

Posted on | July 27, 2013 | 148 Comments

That’s a 10-word sentence that would fit on a T-shirt or a bumper sticker, or which any Republican politician could add to his stump speech — an effective answer to the perennial message that the Democrat Party offers to the aggrieved and malcontented.

Democrats and their media allies are very good at suggesting that people have problems that can be solved by liberal policies. Democrats imply or suggest that these problems — poverty, racism, violence, whatever — are somehow the fault of Republicans: “Corporate America,” for example, being a handy code, a way of telling the working class that those greedy Republicans are ripping them off. Mitt Romney was made into a proxy for irrational economic resentments, and his GOP handlers were unable to figure out how to combat this cunning theme.

Hey, guys, how about telling the simple truth? Like for example: “The Democrats are stirring up irrational economic resentments. Rich people aren’t the cause of our nation’s problems. You can’t blame ‘Corporate America’ for the job-killing effects of Democrat policies that most business leaders warned would be bad for the economy. And whatever your problem is, ‘vote Democrat’ is never the solution.”

(Crowd at Ohio rally goes wild with applause.)

No GOP consultant would ever approve that speech. A phrase like “irrational economic resentments” isn’t the kind of dumbed-down language GOP consultants recommend: Too many syllables — it sounds too smart. But voters are much smarter than GOP consultants give them credit for, and they don’t like being talked down to, as if they were too dumb to understand anything except Fourth-of-July platitudes about “good jobs” and making America great again.

It’s amazing how much better people respond when you talk to them as if they were intelligent grown-ups, and tell them the plain truth.

These thoughts were inspired by a Tweet from Tammy Bruce:

Calling attention to my 2008 column, “Future Ex-Democrats,” was not merely self-promotion, but an attempt to remind Republicans that they don’t have to write off vast demographic segments of the electorate. It’s not just that Tammy Bruce’s neighbor is a Hispanic who voted for Obama, but that Tammy Bruce herself is not exactly a stereotypical corn-fed Midwestern “family values” Republican.

Tammy Bruce is a secular Jewish lesbian feminist who was the president of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Organization of Women until a dispute over the O.J. Simpson trial woke her up to the brutal reality: Her allies in the feminist “sisterhood” were just a bunch of selfish dishonest power-oriented political hacks, which is another way of saying, they’re left-wing partisan Democrats.

As an ex-Democrat myself, I understand how that kind of political disillusionment can be. You grow up as a Democrat — and trust me, I came from a fiercely partisan Democrat family — you think that your party is the be-all end-all of political virtue. There is always some “cause” or inherited loyalty that explains your allegiance, some mythological explanation of why you owe everything to the Democrat Party because of what they did for “your people.” And if you’re that kind of Democrat, your mind is inevitably crowded with stereotypes and rationalizations for your allegiances. It doesn’t matter who you are, or what your rationalization for being a Democrat is, you learn — you are taught — to make “Republican” a synonym for whatever you hate.

Hating Republicans, however, won’t solve your problems. And the minute a Democrat figures that out, he’s not a Democrat anymore.

Between 1992 and 1996, I figured it out, and when I turned, I turned.

Folks, America is at a turning point now, this very minute. We can either keep going the way we’re going — the road to hell is paved by liberal Democrats — or we can turn the other way and try to get back to basic, common-sense American values. As Ronald Reagan once said, there are no easy answers, but there is a simple answer. It’s not really complicated, but it will take hard work and most of all, courage. We need leaders who are not afraid to speak simple truths.

The truth may not always be popular, but it is always the truth.

We have 45 million Americans on food stamps. We have a $16.9 trillion national debt that grows by about $3 billion every day.

We have an unemployment rate that is too high, and would be 40 percent higher if not for the millions of Americans who have simply given up trying to get a job, or who are scraping by with part-time jobs because of a Democrat “health care reform” law that discourages companies from hiring full-time workers. Vote Democrat!

Detroit went bankrupt after being promised by Democrats that the solution to their problem was a multi-billion-dollar bailout for the auto companies. Instead, the bailout was a ripoff that handed more money and power to the same corrupt labor union bosses who were the cause of the problem in the first place. But hey, vote Democrat!

How’s that “Arab Spring” working out for ya, huh? More than 100 protesters killed in Cairo, because vote Democrat!

We have a dead U.S. ambassador and three other Americans — including two former Navy SEALs — who were killed by radical Islamic terrorists armed with weapons provided through a secret State Department program. The administration started lying about the Benghazi attack on Day One and they’re still lying about it now, so . . . vote Democrat?

And let’s talk about spying, OK? If you’re afraid of the government reading your e-mail, just send an e-mail to the White House Press Office with “Benghazi” in the subject line. I guarantee you, they’ll never read that e-mail, and they sure as hell won’t answer it. Vote Democrat?

The FBI couldn’t stop the Boston bombers, maybe because they were too busy investigating the Associated Press and Fox News.

We have a president who praises communist dictators while the IRS is persecuting the president’s enemies. The husband of Hillary Clinton’s assistant is sending meat-tweets to 22-year-olds and the perverted Democrat mayor of San Diego says he’s “taking responsibility,” so he will run the mayor’s office from the psychiatric rehab facility where he’s getting therapy for his problems.

Please, explain to me again how Democrats will solve my problems, because maybe I didn’t quite understand it the first time.

The Democrat Party is a pathetic joke, and this would all be a whole lot funnier if it weren’t for the fact that millions of Americans are still laboring under the delusion that Democrats are the solution to their problems. In fact, Democrats are the problem.

Don’t believe that America’s problems are so big that you can’t make difference, because you can make difference, if you try, and if you encourage the people you know to join you in the fight.

Thank you for reading, and please: Keep fighting every day!
