The Dishonesty of Bill Schmalfeldt

Posted on | November 25, 2012 | 21 Comments

His initials are B.S., which is about all anyone would need to know about him, if he weren’t obsessively cyberstalking people, including my wife. But he has persisted — sending me more than 200 Twitter messages in a 48-hour period from Friday through Sunday afternoon — and his continuing career of harassment means that you’re likely to be hearing more about Bill Schmalfeldt in the near future.

Like all trolls, Schmalfeldt is a compulsive bandwidth bandit. It is not enough for him to express his opinions in his own online space. He must impose himself in your space, too.

While writing as the “Liberal in Baltimore” for the Examiner, in April, Schmalfeldt decided to try to hijack the comments field in a column by conservative Examiner colunnist Joe Newby, about the obnoxious anti-Christian remarks made by Dan Savage. Apparently, Schmalfeldt’s comments have since been deleted, but you can tell by the responses from Newby’s supporters that Schmalfeldt was quite personal in his attacks.

That kind of behavior, I’m told, violated the contract terms for Examiner contributors and ultimately led to the end of Schmalfeldt’s tenure as Liberal in Baltimore” at the Examiner, although he shortly thereafter re-emerged at the Examiner as “Bill Matthews” of Wisconsin. Schmalfeldt claims that this alias was not used to deceive Examiner management, asserting that he perpetrated this pseudonymous deception with the full knowledge and permission of Examiner editors.

Either way, Schmalfeldt used his “Bill Matthews” persona dishonestly, as Lee Stranahan explains:

[Schmalfeldt] mocked Andrew Breitbart’s death and deliberately misled Examiner readers about a website and Twitter account that he made specifically to mock Andrew’s loss. This is a horrible person. And further, he defends Brett Kimberlin in the story. This is a sick, twisted person.
Here’s the article Schmalfeldt wrote under an assumed name where he says:

Yesterday, someone started a satirical website called “Big Damnation.” It is a swipe at the right wing blogosphere posing as the late Andrew Breitbart, blogging from hell, where his eternal punishment is to “tell the truth forever and ever” to make up for the lies he told in life. The name pokes fun at the “Big Government” and “Big Journalism” sites Breitbart operated before his “Big Heart Attack” on March 1. The blog had an accompanying Twitter account @DeadAndrew.

Someone? SOMEONE started a website? No, YOU did. YOU, the author of the article. So you’re covering that up.

By the time “Bill Matthews” wrote about “Big Damnation” and “@DeadAndrew,” Twitchy had already identitified its author as the “festering human pustule” that is @liberalgrouch, Schmalfeldt’s Twitter handle. This was discovered by Aaron Walker, but it took another three weeks before Examiner ceased publishing “Bill Matthews.”

During that time, Schmalfeldt/”Matthews” continue pushing predictable liberal smears:

Schmalfeldt/”Matthews” also produced a four-part series attacking GOP nominee Mitt Romney for being a Mormon, and took some more cheap shots at Andrew Breitbart’s legacy:

A few days later, the Examiner and “Matthews” parted ways. Was he fired or did he resign? Schmalfeldt says it was the latter, but if there is one thing we know for sure, it is this: Bill Schmalfeldt is a liar.

UPDATE: I find it difficult to believe that anyone at the Examiner would knowingly have re-hired Schmalfeldt/”Matthews” after what he wrote at Daily Kos on May 11, denouncing the Examiner as a “content generation algorithm disguising itself as a ‘legitimate news source.'”

Grant that the Examiner is wretchedly mismanaged — trust me, I’ve got friends who work there — but why would they re-hire Schmalfeldt? If the Anschutz empire would fire whoever was responsible for that idiotic decision, it would certainly be an improvement to their organization.

Meanwhile, Lee Stranahan points out that Schmalfeldt is “Too Disgusting For Daily Kos,” where he has evidently been persona non grata since May 20.

BHO, Theoretically Best President EVAR!

Of course, as I’m wont to say, “The difference between theory and practice is greater in practice than in theory.” The Right Scoop, and Radio Equalizer  point to Al “Not so” Sharpton, who seemingly cannot differentiate between public and private sector:

One of the reasons that I think people do not understand that unemployment has gone down and in some cases black unemployment and Latino’s has remained stagnant, is over the last thirty two months Dr. Hutchinson, they’ve increased jobs and found jobs – unemployment has gone down in the private sector. What has not gone down is [unemployment] in the public sector and blacks in particular are disproportionately in the public sector.
One of the reasons those jobs have gone down or have remained down is one, the Republicans are cutting a lot of the agencies where we are the employees of government jobs – government employees, and a lot of those jobs go to governors and mayors who also have had cutbacks. So what we’ve got to do – and we addressed this to the President – is take on these governors and mayors as well as the private sector on why the private sector is getting all these contracts and bailouts and not hiring and correcting the disproportionate amount of their employment does not touch our community and have the President and them support us in that.

The overt racism in Sharpton’s point, which seems to be that governments exist to employ people of a certain racial background, is astounding.

The hilarity atop that, though is “Republicans are cutting a lot of the agencies where we are the employees of government jobs”. Past the garbled “employees of government jobs” diction, one would sure like to know when the last time any government agency, itself, was cut. Maybe Sharpton looked here and blames the GOP for the lack of any agencies beginning with K, Q, X, Y, or Z. How do you spell racist dog-whistle? Possibly ‘KQYXZ’, if you went to the Sharpton School of Illogic.

But what the gag ultimately gets at, in my mind, is the notion that the country elected some über-cerebral chap who gonna pay my mortgage, and run around fixing things. This administration running Paradox of the Incompetent Wunderkind is, for me, the crowning achievement. Never, in the history of mankind, has so much sunshine been blown up so many bottoms, by such egregious media nitwits, at such vast national expense.

Bill Schmalfeldt of Elk Ridge, Maryland, a.k.a. “Liberal Grouch”

Well, how’s your Thanksgiving weekend going, huh? Yesterday, Bill Schmalfeldt harassed me all day long on Twitter, at one point sending me 20 messages in less than an hour. Schmalfeldt was inordinately proud of merging his former site (which he used to smear Aaron Walker, Lee Stranahan, Ali Akbar and others) with the “Breitbart Unmasked” site that has been smearing various enemies of Brett Kimberlin and Neal Rauhauser for the past nine months.

When people are targeted by this kind of online harassment, their friends tell them, “Just ignore it.” But until it happens to you, it’s very difficult to understand how serious it really is. It’s online terrorism, and the people who engage in it do so habitually.

Even if you ignore it, and your harasser eventually gets bored with you and moves on, this doesn’t mean they’ll stop. They’ll just find a new focus of their hateful sociopathic behavior.

It’s not about you. It’s about them. Read more

The Left’s Race Baiting Is Bewildering If You Argue Rationally

A taste of Jonah Goldberg in the New York Post

Racial slander is like duct tape: There’s no limit to what you can do with it.
But can you imagine how much worse it will get if Republicans actually do reach out to black community (as they should)?
One of the points of racial slander is to signal that only liberal policies are guaranteed to be non-racist (even when such policies were forged with racist intent, like the Davis-Bacon Act). This is why the Congressional Black Caucus insists on calling itself the “conscience of the Congress.”
That’s why policies like school choice are routinely denounced as racist, even though they’re largely aimed at improving the lives of inner-city blacks trapped in bad schools. Teachers unions don’t like school choice, ergo, it’s racist.

The United States is founded upon an Enlightenment approach to rational argument. The myopic genius of the Left has been to rediscover purely hormonal populism, and turn it into political power.

The $16T question is: how do you fight that? Rational argument is predicated upon both parties arguing in good faith. The Left seems to argue from the standpoint of bogging down honest discussion, and running out the clock. Meanwhile, votes are bought on the side with ‘free stuff’, and the Left continues to build the entitled mob.

How do you argue with that? Are there any teachers other than time and pain for these Lefties?

FMJRA: FDR’s Mercantile Jaundice Returns, America

Party like it’s 1935! This week’s FMJRA celebrates the Even Greater American Depression (EGAD), and the benighted central planning that brings it. The bad news is that the Wombat is on the road, and can’t support the FMJRA. The good news is that I’ve had some time off to rest and recharge, and still remember where most of the bodies were buried to support this task. Yes, I’ve been blogging less, but the reason is good: I’ve been working on a fiction project. More on that when there is something to say.
No one has been intentionally excluded. Send URLs for inclusion to me or the Wombat.

#OccupyResoluteDesk is not a crook, and he’s not going to go down over this burglary in Benghazi

Can’t quite figure out how to guage this one. I don’t doubt that sufficient evidence exists to throw the bum out.
However, politics has long trumped character and evidence, so it seems as though BHO may ride off into the sunset in a white Ford Bronco on this one.
Did I say ‘white’? How raaaaacist of me. I have been considering the idea of using German words for colors in lieu of English. Make that a weiss Ford Bronco.

You stay classy, death merchants:

A Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in southern Florida is offering a black Friday discount — including $10 off a visit to the abortion center today.
Planned Parenthood of South Florida and the Treasure Coast offered the special, saying, “Visit our West Palm Beach or Kendall Health Center for special after Thanksgiving savings on Friday, November 23rd.”
Pro-life blogger Jill Stanek noticed the Black Friday discount and responded, “Planned Parenthood brings new meaning to the term, “Black Friday,” doesn’t it?”
This is the same abortion business where the chair of the national Democratic party headlined a small rally last year.

You may wonder, how can Planned Parenthood afford to offer discounts? Because they’re funded with your tax dollars, of course.

A tougher question: How do they sleep at night?

‘Tidy’ and Other Rauhauser Signatures

Neal Rauhauser was a speaker at the 2010 Netroots Nation conference

Everybody has writing habits, and people tend to develop a recognizable style. For example, some people have trouble distinguishing “it’s” (contraction of it is) from “its” (possessive of it) or “you’re”/”your,” and repeated errors of that kind become a sort of fingerprint by which one can recognize their writing. Jack Cashill famously exposed Bill Ayers as the ghostwriter of Barack Obama’s Dreams From My Father by comparing the literary style to Ayers’s Fugitive Days.

This is how it is possible to state as a fact that it was Neal Rauhauser who, behind the pseudonym “Carlito2000,” was feeding disinformation to former Anonymous spokesman Barrett Brown in the days before Brown was arrested for threatening an FBI agent. In transcripts of an online chat posted by Brown on Sept. 10 — just two days before his arrest — “Carlito2000” told Brown:

Jen Emick & William Welna getting cornholed by #treehouse on 2600.net … logs posted by Bitchiest aka Kelly Hallisey … ringleaders there are Bratty (Kelly), Render64 (her man), Pythorian, girlfriday, DingoLingo & humu … Emick has been circulating among right wingers for a while now … Approached by @ZAPEM, tentatively Michele Lessick a while ago. Very likely was working with @Liberty_Chick (Mandy Nagy) and @dmatthewstewart (Douglas Matthew Stewart) in pursuit of Anonymous … they hassle @AnonyOps, @AnonyNewsNet, claiming they are Neal Rauhauser, and otherwise act stupid … Emick has appeared just once as “Cream” on @BrooksBayne site thetrenches.us, as secret source on Rauhauser … there is a huge split there – Darby/Stranahan get crosswise with Bayne, nasty civil war stared a month ago … nachash (@doxbin) release big torrent on @Sanguinarious (Welna) and there was a Jen Emick funpack … funpack contains a doc about pursuit of Brett Kimberlin, straight out of HBGary playbook, and it was NOT in the initial dump UGnazi took from Emick … source is believed to be Tom Ryan, canna go into details on how we sorted that out … So, its in Emicks’s directory but the writing ain’t her or ZAPEM, seems very much to be @Liberty_Chick style … So, its in Emicks’s directory but the writing ain’t her or ZAPEM, seems very much to be @Liberty_Chick style … sadly, I am a subject matter expert on this anondrmama … So Darby is under suspicion as being the SWAT caller that triggered #Swatgate … … calls on Mike Stack aka @CryingWolfeBlog 6/23/2011 @Patterico 6/30/2011 @EWErickson on 5/26/2012(?) … and alleged event for @AaronWorthing on 5/29/2012, but no audio has been released … SWAT of Stack was done to cover their tracks – they took out Weiner because he triggered the extortion investigation into former FBI agent turned Congressman Mike Grimm … 2012 calls are due to some stuff with James O’Keefe – Rauhauser appear at some hearing in NJ about him [ @Patterico dox @NadiaNaffe, Rauhauser hooked her up with @LeidermanDevine, epic lawsuit ensued … So New Hampshire state grand jury on O’Keefe, NY federal grand jury on Grimm, D.C. federal grand jury on O’Keefe, and Chicago cybercrime task force wants swatters, they get info on Darby … Darby is FBI snitch from RNC 2008, was involved in making OccupyUnmasked movie, which we are trolling the fuck out of … he was the SWAT caller, we think, and he was implicated in the murder of Palestinian peace activist Riad Haad, in Texas, about six years ago … Stranahan is a dopey former liberal porn guy scam artist who also worked on the movie … Keep in mind Grimm (former FBI) is going down in NY-11, Mike Rogers (former FBI) called for Manning’s execution and he’s from MI-08 … and Coleen Rowley in MN-02 is former FBI turned whistleblower … we want Grimm, Rogers out /w Anon boot print on their asses, and we push Rowley in 🙂 … Frey was 2nd of 4 politicall ymotivated … and that is the best evidence – Darby is a ringer for the swat caller … @OsborneInk did the audio mashup … best jurnos on this mess … @OsborneInk @LiberalGrouch @beezling @BreitbartUnmask @ronbryn (crazy as fuck) … it’s a lot, I know … but we on it non-stop, so if you need clarification we will provide

The boldfaced names highlight subjects of Neal Rauhauser’s conspiracy-theory obsessions. Nobody else but Neal would connect @ZAPEM (who helped expose Rauhauser’s role in the 2010 “TwitterGate” scandal) with James O’Keefe, Brandon Darby, HB Gary, Patrick “Patterico” Frey and Rep. Michael Grimm (R-NY). All of these subjects figure in a 1,000-word document Rauhauser sent to government officials in June.

We could pause to wonder why Neal spins these wild conspiracy theories, supposedly connecting a New York congressman with a Los Angeles County deputy D.A. and various bloggers in an ever-expanding cast of characters. It’s like a Hitchcock thriller directed by Cecil B. DeMille, if Hitchcock and DeMille collaborated on the script during a three-week psychedelic drug binge with Oliver Stone.

Whatever method there is to Rauhauser’s madness, however, his writing style is quite distinctive, as alleged mastermind Patterico explains:

“Tidy little package.”
Bwahahahahahahahaha.
Anyone who has followed Neal Rauhauser for any length of time sees the words “tidy little package” and chuckles — or perhaps laughs out loud, as I just did. You see, Rauhauser loves to use the word “tidy” in connection with compilations of evidence.

There are “more than 9,000” reasons to read the whole thing.
