James Carville Trashes Herman Cain

Herman Cain “is not going to be the president of anything,” says Corporal Cueball. “He’s just trying to get some attention. He’s not going to get the nomination.” Yeah. Tell it to the voters:

Herman Cain takes the lead in the Republican presidential nomination contest as GOP voters continue to deny Mitt Romney clear front-runner status.
A Fox News poll released Wednesday shows support for Cain has quadrupled among GOP primary voters since late August. At that time, he stood at 6 percent. After three September debates, he jumped to 17 percent. And now Cain leads the pack at 24 percent.

I Thought The “We Can’t Wait” Noise Was An Alcoa Reference

Gateway Pundit is all on about “We Can’t Wait” being mooched from a Swedish party. Am I the only person in the country that thought of this when I first heard the slogan?

Observation: calls to immediate action are, for the politician, as visual distractions are to the stage magician. That is, the need to fact check the idiot making the noise is proportional to how much he’s beating the drum in a call to action.

BHO, in particular, has jumped the shark so far as to land completely beyond credibility. I don’t even believe the 1 in 5 consistently strong supporters in the Rasmussen poll actually believe the BHO. Probably too beholden to him, as was Amy Winehouse to her booze, with equally good effect.

Major Democrat Donor Sajat Gupta Indicted on Insider Trading Charges

The Wall Street Journal:

Rajat K. Gupta, the highest-ranking corporate executive to become embroiled in a push by the government to root out insider trading, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of leaking confidential information while serving as a director at Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Procter & Gamble Co.
In a six-count indictment, federal prosecutors in Manhattan alleged that Mr. Gupta, the former head of global consulting firm McKinsey & Co., leaked details about the companies’ financial condition and an investment by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. to former hedge-fund titan Raj Rajaratnam. The Galleon Group founder was sentenced earlier this month to serve 11 years in prison for insider trading.

The WSJ article doesn’t mention Gupta’s big-money contributions to Democrats. For that, we must consult the Stamford (Conn.) Advocate:

According to records on Westport’s online assessor database, the Guptas bought the eight-bedroom, eight-bath home in 1999 for $6.125 million. The home, situated on 2.28 acres, is now appraised at almost $12.5 million. . . .
In September 2008, the Guptas again opened their home to host a fundraiser to benefit the 4th Congressional District campaign of Democrat Jim Himes. Among the guests was then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Himes and other Democrats running for federal office were frequent beneficiaries of campaign donations from Gupta and his wife, according to Federal Election Commission records.
In July 2008, Gupta gave the Himes campaign committee $2,300 for his primary election campaign and another $2,300 for the general election. In March 2009, he gave the newly elected congressman’s committee $2,400, according to the FEC, and in September 2010 Rajat and Anita Gupta each donated $2,400 to the Himes campaign.
Calls to Himes’ congressional office Wednesday were not returned.
Others who benefited from Gupta’s campaign contributions over the years were U.S. Sen. Christopher Dodd, Hillary Clinton’s New York Senate campaign, Westport First Selectman Diane Farrell’s unsuccessful congressional campaign in 2006, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and Democratic presidential candidates Barack Obama, John Kerry and Al Gore.

Has anyone told the “Occupy Wall Street” protesters about this? Obama, Hillary, Pelosi, Kerry, Gore — has anybody asked them about this?

Cain Leads New Ohio Poll; Close to Romney in Nevada; Perry Fading Away

The big headline today is the Ohio poll by Quinnipiac:

Former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain has jumped to the front of the line among GOP presidential contenders with 28 percent support among Ohio Republicans. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is second with 23 percent, while Texas Gov. Rick Perry is almost at the bottom of the pile with 4 percent.

The poll was conducted Oct. 17-23 — partly before the Oct. 18 Vegas debate, partly after — and the complete numbers are:

Ron Paul ……………………… 8%
Newt Gingrich ……………… 7%
Rick Perry …………………… 4%
Michele Bachmann ………. 4%

Of course, that’s kind of irrelevant, because Ohio won’t have its primary until June, but there’s also a new Nevada poll by Public Policy Polling:

Rick Perry …………………… 6%

There’s just no escaping the point: Perry has become a second-tier candidate. Although his RCP national average is still 11.9%, Perry has been in single digits in two recent national polls — Rasmussen and CBS/NYT — and the latter was taken entirely after the Vegas debate. Which is why you’re starting to see headlines like this:

Lovely Contradictions

Via Memeorandum, we have this report in the New York Times:

With Election Day just over a year away, a deep sense of economic anxiety and doubt about the future hangs over the nation, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll, with Americans’ distrust of government at its highest level ever.
The combustible climate helps explain the volatility of the presidential race and has provided an opening for protest movements like Occupy Wall Street, to highlight grievances about banks, income inequality and a sense that the poor and middle class have been disenfranchised. Almost half of the public thinks the sentiment at the root of the Occupy movement generally reflects the views of most Americans.

What is this, a bad country-western song? “The Government’s Like My Husband, Who Punches Me Like His Cattle, But I Love Him, And Besides, Who’s Gonna Keep Me In Grits?”, by Polly-Esther and the Plaid Bandanas.  Either you believe the government is Rousseauian in nature, and the fount of all blessings, or you do not.

Doublethink has been a club with which the American public has been beaten for decades. Hence, President Wall Street can sympathize with the #OccupyWallStreet protesters in their ObamaVille, while taking contributions from Wall Street.

Is Doublethink sustainable, though? All of these Orwellian and Alinskyite ideas predate the internet. It is my contention that those ideas are predicated on a much firmer control of information than is possible today. They’ll die hard, but they’re going down. A brighter future awaits us.

Remember: Only Government Can Save You From Having To Be … Self-reliant?

Somewhat related, via IowaHawk, is this punk who is either

  • packing more heat than Chuck Norris,
  • clueless as to the meaning of his well-enunciated words,
  • strung out on something very, very good which does not affect his speech capacity,
  • all of the above

I commend to the punk in the video the study of Sun Tzu. That is not the sort of thing said idly. If he bethinks himself that bad, he should just go take on the Oakland PD. Notwithstanding that, while I wouldn’t necessarily approve of any cat/mouse play on the part of the Oakland PD, I would understand the motivation.
