Shock and Awe Day for the GOP

Posted on | February 1, 2010 | 11 Comments

The title is lifted from a Ron Paul Forum post about today’s stunning Sarah Palin endorsement of Rand Paul in the Kentucky GOP Senate primary. Given that many of Palin’s supporters were supporting either Bill Johnson or Trey Grayson, I’m sure they’re scratching their heads. Personally, I was surprised she’d get involved in such a bloody three-way feud.

Meanwhile, as Pat Austin notes at Not One Red Cent, Marco Rubio is surging ahead of Charlie Crist in the latest Rasmussen poll in the Florida GOP Senate primary. The best comment was Baseball Crank on Twitter: “That’s not a tan, Charlie, it’s toast.”

Finally, there was the Rush Limbaugh endorsement of Glenn Beck. One Illinois operative described it to me this way: “The Big Man cometh.” And, yeah, a shout-out from Rush is huge. “Hie thee to the polls, Illinois.”

Meanwhile, I’m hatching plans for a Shoe Leather road trip to Alabama to cover contested GOP primaries for two congressional seats and governor. And you know what that means.

I am glad Rubio is pulling ahead. Crist is talking going dem, but that is a risk worth taking.
