OK, Now That Stupak’s Gone, Who Wants to Beat Another Blue Dog Democrat?

His name is Rep. John Barrow, and he’s from Georgia’s 12th District. Say hello to his Republican challenger, Ray McKinney, a nuclear power project manager from Emanuel County, Ga.:

Peach Pundit blogged about Ray’s campaign earlier this week, and I reported that — happy! happy! joy! joy! — MoveOn.org is preparing to attack Barrow from the left, where he faces a Democratic primary challenge from former state Sen. Regina Thomas. In 2006, Barrow won by a 1% margin and the word here at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans is that GA12 is being added to the NRCC’s target list.

UPDATE 9 a.m. CT, Saturday: Ray’s campaign Web site is a work in progress. In fact, the site didn’t go live until last night during the SRLC Blogger Bash, which was Tweeted by Melissa Clouthier:

    Well, this is a district where we might have a chance, and it makes sense to keep it on the radar.

    Erickson has gone off the deep end, urging donations to Republicans in GA-04 (Atlanta, McKinney’s old district), TN-09 (Memphis, 60% black) and IL-17 (only D+3 in registration, but gerrymandered after 1990 and 2000 Censuses to be pretty safely Democratic, even for the odious Phil Hare).

    Wasting money in districts we would only win in a major landslide (if then) means diverting scarce resources from the districts which are competitive, and the money might actually make the difference.

    It works both ways though — and in this election cycle the Republicans might be expected to have the money to waste.
