Kill Truck Informs Me She’s Now Reading ‘How to Get a Million Hits on Your Blog’

Looks like she’s got Rule 5 (“Everybody Loves a Pretty Girl“) nailed down cold, but she’s experiencing a problem I’ve experienced myself: Getting linked for the funny stuff, while more serious work gets overlooked:


Kill Truck’s “something real” was an analysis of Peter Schiff’s Senate campaign in Connecticut, which included some observations about the Tea Party movement.

Trying to get a good content mix — hard-core politics, media criticism, cultural commentary, silly fun stuff — is an experimental process and there’s no magic formula, but there is method to the madness. It ain’t all bikini pics and blogwhoring. 

Having a traffic-growth approach to blogging requires patience and a willingness to do some serious “eat your vegetables” stuff that doesn’t get a lot of traffic, but which functions as ballast to the more light-hearted material.

Also, try to get re-Tweeted by Alyssa Milano.

Meanwhile, everybody follow Kill Truck on Twitter and read her blog. She may post a bikini picture any day now.

UPDATE: Lest you think I’m merely joking about the bikini picture, I’ll include this screen-cap of conservative blogger Cassy Fiano’s sidebar. You’ll notice that, wedged between the cleavage shot and the bikini shot, is a link for her bridal registry. 

This is what we call marketing genius.

    While you are Trucking around with the sweet young things, our poor market is again taking a plunge, now into negative territory for the YEAR – down 272, or 2.5% at this time.

    Apparently Bernanke’s plan to buy Treasuries with maturing mortgage instruments was transparently desperate (and takes money OUT of the housing market, which is still in deep) failed to inspire confidence. Without doubt the weakening Chinese economy and the Fed’s advice to “Just embrace the suck” aren’t winning any converts to Obamanomics.

    Christy Romer tried to bail out before the stuff hits the fan, but she forgot the first rule of avoiding flying feces: “Decline all invitations to wade in a cesspool, especially if they are lowering an outboard motor into it.” She should have noticed that every other person in the Obama Administration is an idiot, a criminal, a buffoon, a leftist nut, an America-hating Marxist, or some combination of the foregoing.

    Just had to get it off my chest, We now return to the Obama Tragicomedy of Errors, already in progress.

    “It ain’t all bikini pics and blogwhoring” But that’s what gets the commentary so that you know you’re being read (aside from google analytics). For me it’s the comments that makes blogging fun otherwise I’m just throwing post-its into a hole. Kinda like twitter.

    DAMMIT. If only I could take time to actually whining, begging, and hint dropping (I have 26 followers on twitter), instead of just sitting there and hoping somehow that people would notice my blog, then I’d resort to using those methods to drive up my blog traffic and get twitter followers. DAMN.
