VIDEO: Herman Cain Says, ‘Secure the Border. Not Pretend That We Want to Secure the Border — Secure the Border

Posted on | April 28, 2011 | 16 Comments

Nicholas Ballasy of CNSNews asked Herman Cain whether Mexican drug cartels should be declared foreign terrorist organizations. Cain agreed — “because we cannot become a lawless nation” — and then explained his four-point position on border security:

“Empower the states to do what the federal government won’t do, can’t do — empower the states. Give the power to the states to deal with the problem.”

Cain’s common-sense policy, supporting the right of states like Arizona to defend themselves against what can only be called a foreign invasion, is winning him more and more support among grassroots conservatives.

Just the other day, Rush Limbaugh called Cain “a guy who’s got it all”:

CALLER: You know, I used to work for Herman Cain. I worked for Godfather’s Pizza, that’s, you know, in Omaha, Nebraska.
RUSH: Right.
CALLER: And I’ve always loved him, what he supported, you know, I got to work with him directly and still keep in contact with him. What do you think of him as a leader? I have so many questions for you, but I guess, you know, I’ll start with that.
RUSH: I love Herman Cain. He’s obviously a leader. Herman Cain led Godfather’s Pizza, he’s great guy, fine guy, played golf with him. No, I haven’t, I’ve not played golf with him. (laughing)
CALLER: You say that about everyone. (laughing)
RUSH: (laughing) I just love to tweak ‘em out there. This is the point. We have a lot of great potential leaders out there. In a better world Herman Cain would be seen as one of our foremost candidates. He’s a guy who’s got it all.

Isn’t it time you joined the online grassroots army at Citizens for Cain?

Paul Ryan has a budget proposal. Does Cain?

I’ll take him! I’m a Palin girl, but I could go either way. McCain had one thing right: Palin would make a fantastic veep. I’m dreaming of 16 years worth. 8 with Cain, 8 as president. Happy dreams. Pipe dreams, most likely.

Did anyone get Krauthammer to give Herman a nod?

    That’s cold, dude.

Paul Ryan is not a candidate, except in the dreams of his less-realistic admirers. I admire Paul Ryan, but running for president as a member of the House is impractical. It’s why Pence begged off. Even Ron Paul was forced in February 2008 to announce that he would be “scaling back” his presidential campaign in order to focus on getting re-elected to the House.

People who promote the candidacies of people who are not actually candidates, and who are unlikely to become candidates, are preventing us from considering the choices we actually have. The “Draft Chris Christie” sentiment, for example, is well-intended but ultimately a distraction.

Herman Cain’s turned a profit. Has Ryan?

    give me a Cain/West ticket!

Oh crap! My bad. I did not mean it that way Stacy. My apologies to Charles.

But Krauthammer can hold his own and actually I like he and Trump are mixing it up.

I just wish Charles would acknowledge that Herman Cain is out there and has a shot (even if the odds are against him).

    A very unbalanced ticket.

I love West, but Cain is a long enough shot already and probably needs a VP (who while very conservative) counters his perceived weaknesses on lack of prior government service. Frankly I do not perceive that as an actual weakness, but it is good to have someone around who knows the inside game. West’s government service was as a exceptional midrank army officer, which is very good but not exactly what Cain needs. West may be a candidate some day, just probably not in 2012.

Actually I was referring to the fact that both Cain and West are from the south.

  • Joe

    That too.
