Go, Tom Campbell!

U.S. Senate Candidate Tom Campbell, on Flashreport:

America’s national debt is an economic burden, a moral failing, and a foreign policy vulnerability. It’s the single most important problem we face, and that’s why I’m running for the US Senate.

The sheer dimension of the federal budget deficit, and debt, is almost beyond comprehension. We owe 12 trillion dollars. Our entire economy produces 14 trillion every year. So, we’ve now borrowed the value of almost an entire year’s production of every good and service by every worker in America. If we stopped borrowing today, and tried to pay back what we owe at the rate we’ve been paying it back, it would take 293 years.

Every child born in our country inherits a $40,000 obligation to pay back money her or his parents borrowed. That’s the moral issue. Parents should save to give something to their children. The federal government, however, has done the opposite. It has borrowed from our children, to buy favor with current voters. That’s immoral.

Godspeed, Mr. Campbell. May you send that [gerund] [noun] Boxer packing, with lots of bubble wrap.

Tom Campbell was running for governor and getting no traction there, so he switched to the senate race. He’s not interested in serving so much as he is in finding an office, any office, that will let him enjoy some perks.

On a less snarky note, his cry for fiscal responsibility in the quote above is amusing, given his support for Propositions 1A through 1F in last year’s election, which would have raised a raft of taxes on Californians and done nothing to control spending. Tom’s no fiscal conservative: if anything, he’s a bit to the left of Fiorina. The only genuinely conservative candidate in the race to unseat Boxer is Assemblyman Chuck DeVore.

Phineas is spot on. Also, Mr. Campbell could not muster 40% against Diane Feinstein in her last election campaign. Mr. Campbell has sold himself as a fiscal conservative, but as Phineas pointed out, he supported two tax-raising measures and back other tax increases proposed by Gov. Benedict Arnold. I would be more enthusatic wirh Fiorina, who has a chance. And definately with DeVore, who could win in a year like this. Mr. Campbell is not the candidate Californias need this time around.

Worse yet, the NRSC is trying to shove Carly Fiorina down the throats of the state GOP.

Checking in from CA, I’m going to have to piss on your Tom Campbell parade. He’s a Moderate at best. This guy is left of both of the other candidates, Carly Fiorina and Chuck Devore. Chuck is the hardcore Conservative candidate in this one and Carly is a 50-something who couldn’t find her way to a voting booth if she were standing in the polling place parking lot with map.

    So… there you go.
