Nothing like coming across a fresh genius :
The monster with the lovely purr produced by Andy McKee looks to be from Harp Guitars.
Amazing stuff.

    Yay Andy McKee!

Here’s something disturbing: I discovered him through a link at…LGF before the meltdown.

I believe that is the increasingly rare nar-guitar. The narguitar was once common in Alaska and other arctic climates, but due to global warming most of them are now floating on ice with polar bears.

I saw this guy at the Texas State Fair some years back. He was playing an OLD Gibson harp guitar at the time that was on the verge of collapsing from strain of the harp string tension. He’s a decent finger-style guitarist. As finger style guy myself (no wisecracks, OK?)the secret to all this is finding some chord voicings that evoke a certain mood as in, “Whoa dude, that sounds WAY COOL!”, and kind of noodling around from there. There, I said it.

Smitty: I used to consider myself a bit of a guitar player. After listening to guys like Andy McKee, I realize now that I was merely annoying the strings!

Pat Metheny (my hero!) invented the 42 String Pikasso guitar (built by Linda Manzer). Truly amazing instrument:
