No, Charles Krauthammer was not talking about Meghan McCain’s Dirty Sexy Politics:
Thanks to The Right Scoop for the video. Note that Krauthammer states as a fact that Christine O’Donnell will lose the general election. But why, then, did Krauthammer support John McCain, who lost so disastrously in 2008?
Krauthammer’s certainty that Mike Castle would be a “shoo-in” is equally questionable. If a Tea Party Express ad buy totalling something like $200,000 can put Castle in jeopardy of losing the GOP primary, exactly why should we believe that he is an invincible electoral juggernaut for November?
If O’Donnell pulls off a miracle upset Tuesday, it would be a continuation of the same pattern we’ve seen with Arlen Specter, Charlie Crist, Sue Lowden, Jane Norton and Lisa Murkowski: John Cornyn, the NRSC and the entire national Republican establishment lining up to tell us that their hand-picked pets are surefire winners — and yet they couldn’t even win their own primaries against underfunded challengers!
BTW, I’m hoping to rent a car and drive to Delaware to blog Tuesday’s results. Please hit the tip jar.
Kraut said we would never hear from Joe Miller again. He is not as smart as he and others think he is. Actually, he is 100% dead wrong quite often.

I posted this video a couple of hours ago on the Christine thread below. But that is okay, you might have missed it.
I like Krauthammer, and he is far more often right, but he has never been a Palin fan so what do you expect. He definitely can be wrong on topics.

Everyone from the weekly standard, nro, dr.k, power line, etc have all become rinse and elites. Wow I can,t believe all these former conservatives have all changed overnight. How could they pick on a recent college graduate who pays her rent with campaign donations.after all she only reported making 6000 dollars last year. I mean she did have her house trashed last year by the repubs in delaware and did not even file a police report. Now she has a new house but she won’t tell anyone where she lives now especially those rinse at the weekly standard.

There is a very simply reason you should believe C.O. will lose and M.C. will win, depending on who gets the nomination of the party.
M.C. has been elected, often.
C.O. has been defeated, often.
Now, I’ve heard stories of a certain president, around 1860 if I recall, who had lost some elections before winning the big one.
Since some on the right now talk about C.O. as if she’s the second coming of Lincoln, maybe it could happen and everyone gets to tell Krauthammer what a jackass he is.
Maybe.
But Krauthammer’s logic, based upon, you know, actual results in actual elections, as well as (admittedly potentially spurious) polls showing M.C. up 11 against the democrat and C.O. down 11, is seamless.

The “elites” (if you consider Allah and Ace part of the establishment too) want to win back the Senate. You arguably need a few Olympia Snowes to do so. You can disagree with the argument, but Delaware is blue and the race is close enough on this election to make sense. This is a fourth and one call.
But I also understand the arguments being made by Levin, Riehl, Stacy, and Smitty (who found Christine first). They are persuasive guys. But the strongest argument is from Riehl, who said we are screwed if the GOP does not act like conservatives if they win.
Life is full of risk and the chance of actually getting a more conservative candidate in in a blue state is a risk many will take. Ultimately, I want the pros and cons out on both candidates prior to the primary so the Delaware republicans can make an informed decision.
And whoever wins better be backed 100% by everyone who supported the other candidate.

What Joe said.
And I can’t wait until Wednesday, when I hopefully will be hearing less about this subject, not matter who wins. . .

I’m with Joe and Wondering, though I differ with Joe on this point: “ You arguably need a few Olympia Snowes to… win back the Senate“.
I’m not so sure. As if having Snowe in our column isn’t rather like having a fifth column?
“We” are libertarians and conservatives first. The D and R are irrelevant, especially when the R is for RINO.
Delaware may be Blue… but that is not to say that a genuine alternative to the Left’s candidate can’t win. Methinks it’s quite the opposite. There are a lot of centrists, independents, middlers, undecideds and disaffected who hunger for a real choice – even just this once – even if not forever.
K-Man offers the false notion that to Capture the Middle you need a “moderate” candidate. May be true at various times, but Reagan proved the rule false when under crisis. I think O’Donnell can do it.

Charles is a consummate member of the beltway cocktail club crowd. Outsiders need not apply and other “non-professionals” are not in touch with the “real” pulse and reason of DC elites. Yeah, he makes good points and isn’t a leftist, but I listen to Charles as I would listen to a politician that’s been in office too long.

Hey, I am glad someone else makes the point about Mr. Castle. He may not be all that if he can not beat this insurgent Christine O’Donnell. One of the reasons I jumped on the Marco Rubio bandwagon was because of this Cornpoke guy trying to interfere in the primary process. Same reason I was for Chuck DeVore here in Cali. BUT, once the primaries are over, we have to look at the big picture. That the Dear Leader, President Obama and the Dems are the real enemies. This election is too important to get hurt over what happens in a primary. Is Mike Castle a RINO? Of course he is. He makes our candidate against Sen. Ma’am Boxer, Carly Fiorina, to be Sen. Jim DeMint. But if he DOES win tomorrow, I want him to win the general. And I want the same for Miss O’Donnell. If The NRSC does NOT fully support Miss O’Donnell if she wins, they are not serious about winning back the senate and defeating the Obama/Democrat agenda. That maybe the big story out of tomorrow’s election.

Castle has run statewide in Delaware 11 times, I think, and is undefeated. He won in the Democratic years ’06 and ’08 and if you believe it unreasonable to assume he can do it once again, the burden is on you to argue why that should be so. Nothing I’ve heard yet makes sense.
And yet the same poll which shows O’Donnell leading Castle shows the Democratic nominee for Castle’s House seat, whoever it is, leading by healthy double digits – that’s statewide, and in a Republican wave year. So any idea O’Donnell has a real chance to win the general needs more than wishful thinking behind it.
We didn’t erect the welfare state overnight, and it will not be taken down much faster than it went up. Patience and prudence are counseled.

Joe @ #5 ~ I don’t pay any attention to AP, or to Ace for analysis, for that matter, but Krauthammer carries some intellectual weight. On the other side, Levin was downright dishonest in his dust-up with Paul Mirengoff on this same topic, and has not attempted to correct any of his false statements that I have seen. A man willing to do that, after being called out for it, is not a man I would trust with my pen – and it’s a disposable ball point.
Riehl’s a jerk, Smitty’s a Libertarian, and Stacy wears a fedora, for crying out loud. You couldn’t find three with less influence on the debate if their surnames were Howard, Fine, and Howard.
But I am grateful to Smitty, since he “found” O’Donnell. I’d have helped in the search, but never realized she was lost. She certainly doesn’t look worse for the experience. Hubba, hubba! [. . . oops, hope she doesn’t sue me for “gender discrimination” now . . .]
Ever notice how a hot chick can make men overlook her flaws even as they fall over each other to make fools of themselves in front of her?

Stace, you forgot Bennett (X-UT) and that guy from SC that dissed Beck at the town hall meeting.
Knock ’em dead (figuratively speaking, of course) in Delaware. My prayers to you and all the little angels working the primary tomorrow. We’ll be here anxiously, er.. patiently waiting.

“Rinse and elites?” I’ve never heard that before. That’s brilliant.

Support the most conservative candidate at each step in the process and let the chips fall where they may. Remain as close as possible to your principles and project them to the best of your ability as you advocate for ideas and to people.
Let the chattering class that “knows” everything hit and miss just like every other American citizen. That class has no weight except that which is granted to it by those foolish enough to not come to their own conclusions.
I support O’Donnell now. Should she lose, I’d support Castle. There’s no need to burn bridges, and to presume anyone knows what will happen – especially this cycle – is silly. There’s growing proof that these Tea Party “losers” can gain momentum despite lesser name recognition or the security of incumbency. In fact now those past virtues are a considerable risk. And if this nation cannot move Right now, then it never can. It’s time to roll the dice.

You know, I probably should’ve just created a link to McCain’s “Polls Are Not Predictions” post from earlier Monday (9/13/10). It seems I was pretty much being… redundant.
Which of course makes perfect sense since I’m usually at Ace of Spades reading duplicate posts. Subliminal Ace is a dangerous thing.

“But why, then, did Krauthammer support John McCain, who lost so disastrously in 2008?”
“disastrously”? McCain lost 46% to 53%, despite the bank crash, eight years of Bush fatigue, and Obamamania in the media.
O’Donnell will be lucky to break 40%.
fortcww: Lincoln lost the time he ran for the Illinois legislature, then won the next four times. He ran and won for the U.S. House in 1846; then stepped aside for a fellow Whig in 1848. In 1858 he lost the de facto Senate election to Douglas – by an extremely narrow margin, against the strongest Democrat in the country.
O’Donnell’s political career consists of:
A failed run for the Senate in 2006. She finished third in the primary, with 17%; then ran as a write-in candidate whose votes weren’t even counted. (Not that it mattered, as she got less than 5%.)
Another failed run for the Senate in 2008, in which she got 35% against Joe Biden, who was actually running for Vice President.
This is not a Lincolnesque record.

I don’t see what the game plan is here tiger.
I’m out.
I officially don’t give a rat’s ass.
There is an abiding prejudice amongst Marylanders about the citizens of Delaware.
I thought it odd as a college student when so many felt it incumbent to spontaneously explain the stupitidy of people from Delaware.
As stranger in a strange land, I listened to these diatribes with as sympathetic ear as possible but I still wondered, from what high ground my interlocutors thought they were firing their shots.
As far as I have been able to tell, the people of Maryland are, by and large, mostly dumb-asses.
But they all do seem to agree that the people of Delaware are far more deficient than they.
I’ll take them at their word.
I don’t think that I’ve ever actually met someone from Delaware.
Or, someone who admitted so.
I can’t imagine what sort of human amoebas must populate Delaware that Marylanders of every shape and station can so easily and confidently denigrate you.

If Castle were all that good, he’d have put O’Donnell away, same as Christie did with Lonegan in NJ.
I don’t know. I think Krauthammer is right that this is more or less tossing a Senate seat away… and yet, if you don’t scare the RINOs every so often, the party drifts left far enough that it stands for little — you have to offer a choice, when all is said and done.
Not thrilled with either choice in this race.

Ben (The Tiger) ~ “Scaring the RINOs” at the cost of risking a possible Senate majority seems to me to be petulant and counterproductive. Consider the difference over the next two years in the federal judges seated under Chairman Leahy vs. Chairman Sessions.
Besides, scaring the RINOs by losing the seat sends a message, all right – but the message is “Hey look at us – we’re idiot losers!” Parents would be so proud . . .
Riehl spent much of the day promoting the “Castle voted to impeach Bush” lie . . . parents would be so proud . . .
A bunch of dumb Gomers being played for fools by a conniving woman . . . but that theme has been around since antiquity, hasn’t it?

There’s no point in the GOP gaining control of the Congress if it is not a conservative/libertarian GOP gaining control of the Congress.
The situation is so serious that we cannot afford to waste time battling the RINOs. We will have enough problems with the Boehners and Gingrichs and the rest of the Right Establishment.
Better we wait another two years, if that is what is necessary to assure that we can ‘overthrow’ the existing regime – utterly.
Anonymous Drivel is right: It’s time to roll the dice and go all out for the Christine O’Donnells of this world.
We have to stand firmly for conservative principles and not compromise them. The situation is too desperate. Either we reverse the socialist tide fully and completely or we shall all become engulfed and drown – that will become inevitable, with only the date it happens being variable.

Hmmmmm, this is good.
I wanted Simmons to face Blumenthal in Conn. But Simmons lost to WWW McMahon. Simmons was a veteran who could have stuffed Blumenthal’s lies down his throat. Still, Simmons was gracious and gave his support to McMahon.
Now she is within six.
There is a lesson here.
